Higher Being

When someone sent me a congratulatory email this morning about my ascention to Higher Being status on the TTLB Ecosystem (where SDA is currently ranked #5), I decided to take a look at the details and try to figure out what in tarnation is going on – because it doesn’t make a lot of sense.
It appears that the Blogging Tories homepage is enhancing linkage stats, somewhat artificially. Every time I write a post, the BT site automatically links back to it – at the moment there are over 460 such links (To complicate matters, for reasons unknown, one of my posts from last year insists on having it’s own ranking on the system. I’ve emailed NZ Bear about it.)
So, that’s what’s likely going on. Not sure what to do about it, but perhaps the best solution is to find a way to delist Blogging Tories member aggregator page from the TTLB system?

  1. Well if you would stop being so darn controversial I could slow down my linking to you as well πŸ˜‰
I just checked the Canadian community and noticed a few more errors. One site has 99 links but ranks near the top. Another site has a couple of hundred links to themselves! So it is obviously not a perfect system. I hit higher being a couple of weeks ago during a weird “blip” as well and then it sunk back down to mammal along with my ego…

  2. Kate!!! SHHHHH!!!
That screw up makes many of us look way better than we deserve. If the results suggest the system ain’t broke don’t go fixing it!

The rest of us non-higher beings might have something to say about that. πŸ™‚
On another note, I predict the the left “whingers” will link to this post and claim it to be part of a Conservative blogger consipacy..

  4. The reason I suggest taking the BT site off the system is that the links there are in effect, self generating – second hand method of linking to yourself, through a proxy.

  5. Yeah, don’t mess it up!
We’re riding high in the blogosphere.
Those automatic links are earned links, because only the high caliber blogs get the honour of being on Blogging Tories πŸ˜‰

  6. Well, whatever NZBear’s site says about SDA, to put it in a nutshell, I like SDA.
I have all these thoughts going through my head all the time, and sometimes I get overwhelmed with them. Being able to share them via writing on SDA is just great. Helps me focus and express what’s going on in my head like never before. It’s better than a verbal discussion, which is usually necessarily too fast-paced and short-lived to work out anywhere near as effectively as doing it here.
That’s why Stephane Dion’s letter-writing to the Quebec PQ government on the matter of separation was so effective. It was focussed and in black and white and not in MSM soundbites which tend to promote misunderstanding of what is said.
Kate’s pretty good at this participatory blog thing. She would also make a great conservative talk-show host, if that were what she wanted to do.
Hey, I just realized that Canada doesn’t have any conservative talk shows, except for Global Sunday.

  7. While I wouldn’t advocate looking your gift horse in the mouth, Angry is the one you need to speak to about the Blogging Tories TTLB list.

  8. The TTLB blogging tories list is an offshoot of the main one. According to TTLB Ecosystem, SDA is just ahead of Captain’s Quarters (who is perhaps gaining the same advanatage) and just behind Powerline…

  9. Let it ride… Do you even own a hammock? Well I don’t own one come to think of it, but like you, I just enjoy the way people fill in their corners of the big picture.
Competiton for numbers seems secondary. If I had a hammock, there would be a need for a wireless keyboard.
Sometimes I wonder how one can have a dynamic blog-site and search out and read all that good stuff and have a life including dogs with no more hours than anyone else.
Type A or sleep not always essential I guess.
A lot of people sure enjoy SDA. 73s TG

  10. I’m also in the TTLB universe (far, far lower than thou), and in the last few days I’ve “lost” half my links, but they are still there.
    Odd stuff, all around.

  11. Thanks, Tony. Half of my “secret” is the fact that I work at the computer quite a bit – the other half is that I have a very erratic work schedule. Some days I just sit around and think about stuff (yes, this is a legitimate part of logo design, etc.) other times I put in most of my hours inside a couple of long days – and then I’m finished for the week.
I know. It sucks to find that out.
