A reader explains – “This is an online…christmas? holiday? disturbing? card sent, presumably to commenters on Garth Turner’s blog.” The copy of the email I received indicates it’s “From: “Garth Turner, MP Halton” [mp@garth.ca]”
I’m holding out hope that this is a hoax…

Update. The good citizens of Halton can be proud. It’s no hoax. It appears that their elected member of parliament is actually sending this “e-card” to individuals who have commented at his blog site.

  2. Sort of related. On Bourque just now is a story about a public school in Ottawa whose carol singing choir has dropped the word “Christmas” for the word “festive” in the song Silver Bells. The name of the school is Elmdale Public School. I tried to access their websit but it is conveniently not available due to “this site is under construction”. Shame, shame, shame, shame on the asshat teacher/s that pulled this one off.

  12. I started thinking about this more. There’s a regular poster at Garth’s who does alot of photoshopping. Zorpheus at the Wingnutter. Garth uses alot of his images on his blog.
    So I went to his site. And sure enough this is his work. So Garth must have sent it out to those who do not agree with him. I’ll give it to Garth on this one. He has a good sense of humour about it at least.

  13. I got the same thing. Garth is ultimately responsible whether or not he personally sent this out since whoever sent it has access to Garth’s mailing list.

  17. The school in Ottawa mentioned by “adifferentbob” has been a hot topic on talk shows on CFRA this am.
    The offensive word removed from the song “Silver Bells”, written years ago inspired by the Salvation Army kettle Bells rung every year at CHRISTMAS.
    I suggest they go completely generic and call off Christmas and Easter holidays all the freaking Leftoids teaching and or running our public schools all enjoy taking off.
    Maybe they can go for George Costanza’s greeting on Seinfield, “Happy Festivus”, to explain all the hustle and bustle and bright lights of this specific time.
    We should all worry where this will end. How much will we be willing to allow the Left to bury all this country was built upon?

    After I sent a message to Ralph Goodale in 2005 complaining about the lack of security on his Trust initiative I started receiving crap from LIberals all over the country.
    Apparently they don’t give a crap about who comes knocking or what it’s about … so long as they can add a name to the database.

  32. I received the same ‘card’ this morning..i chose to delist myself.I suppose i received it because i have sent e-mails promising to help defeat his sorry self in the next election.I will, too.
    Heh..Don..only Santa can figure out who has been naughty or nice..and Dion will prove to be very naughty indeed if he takes this poll as an indication Canadians are ready to return the lieberals to power.
    When we next go to the polls, the liberals are going to take the biggest ass-wupping, the likes they have not seen in decades..

In the store & at home I have been tuned to satelite XM103 listening to Some of the greatest Christmas songs, sung by performers that have passed on bing,frank,dean,burl, carpenters etc.. just to name a few & some that are still with us. I have even had customers ask me where i got the CD as they have not heard those in years, only to explain its satelite radio.
    The spirit is still with me as i even say to my customers are you ready for it,Merry Christmas.(although one tried to correct me a couple years back, i told him too get the hell out & still have a merry christmas)

  42. For the last two years the Liberals have been describing the polls that they were ALWAYS behind in by saying “polls are only a snapshot in time”.
    Now Decima phones 1000 people in Toronto and the results are the absolute gospel.

  43. Well, well, I thought the Liberals didn’t pay any heed to polls. The story goes “they’re a snapshot in time”,according to the Dippers and Liberals when their down. Decima is a Liberal pollster, so it’s not surprising. Wouldn’t think many are worrying about politics at this time, certainly not those who celebrate Christmas. Toronto would be a good place for a Liberal Pollster to go fishing right now. If a pollster called me now he’d be told where to go.
    Looking forward to early next year when the Liberals and Dippers take down the Government as they’re threatening to do. They won’t know what hit them. Meanwhile, ’tis the season to be jolly, not folly.

I love a good joke as much as the next guy (perhaps even more) however I would have expected a widely distributed Christmas greeting from an MP to have lot more class. At least when I was asked to create Garth’s electronic greeting last year, it was much more tasteful.
    Zorph – your artwork is very funny at times but Garth should have reserved this eblast for his close friends and admirers, not for his constituents as a whole.

    At least, the mailing list makes the process explicit. Unless we “know” them, we’re just a sale to them. Believe it or not, Paul Martin may have been an exception because he was somewhat old-fashioned about the process.

    Maybe they liberals should run with the slogan “Were going to ban Christmas!” I’ve never seen a Christmas greeting from any of them in Winnipeg for like decades.
