  4. I hope that this has already been done, but if not might I suggest that everyone look into diy budget greenhouses and patio gardens (for those with minimal space)? I think at this point it might be an idea well worth looking into — that is if there aren’t some rules that keep you from making a victory garden. Kale is a wonderful option (very nutritious and good in soups and stews). Freezing your leftover seeds is a smart touch.
    Rabbits and chickens aren’t a bad idea either (just be sure your greenhouse doesn’t get too hot and provide good ventilation), but I fear that might be pushing your luck with the law.

    2. My wife and I plant a good sized garden every spring .We are in grow zone 3B with around 120 frost free days. She collects seeds from the current harvest to start next years crop. Tomatos, cucumbers,squash are started inside in February.
      Potatos,carrots, beets,turnips,peas,beans,corn, red onions,kale,zucchini and squash,pumpkins, and garlic( planted in the fall). Greenhouse for tomatos and peppers. A framed hot bed for cucumbers.
      Small raised bed for herbs, lettuce and green onions.
      Strawberries, raspberries,honeyberries, evan’s cherries saskatoons,apples,rhubarb for fruit. She also experiments with something new each year. Different kinds of melons, asparagus(lasted 4 years), artichoke, egg plant(very tiny) as examples. We have fresh fruit and leaf vegeables from July thru September and everything else August thru October.
      Kale, lettuce and root vegetable leaves are given to neighbours for chicken feed and we get eggs in return. Corn cobs and stalks. carrot tops go to the horses and donkeys.
      We fill the freezer and cold room and eat our harvest thru the winter and spring. Then start the process over again. We make our own horseradish( a harsh tear jerking experience) and BBQ sauce(rhubarbeque is the best)
      We believe the labor is worth the results. Any size of garden is a worthwhile endevour just for the taste! Grow potatos in a large, deep plant pot. Herbs in a long flower planter. Convert a flower bed into a vegetable garden(tomatos enjoy the heat on the southside of your house).

      1. Good points. It’s something to get you out of the house, into fresh air and sunshine — good for the body, clears the mind.
        I’ve been stuck in the house with a horrific flu myself; has put me on edge. I have tomatoes to can.

        Bartering is a good idea as well — although do try the kale; it’s amazingly cold hardy and good for you. I find people (aka. my husband, who hates green food) take to it better in a soup or stew; it does have a strong texture and taste.

        Even an indoor herb garden will save some money (watch out for pets). And groceries ARE getting expensive and likely to get more so. Plus, mental wellness… In fact, taking up some practical hobbies (woodworking, knitting, sewing) might be worthwhile. I’m a firm believer in learning being both fun and practical as well as educational.

  7. The indian chiefs asked for residential schools. They wanted their kids educated in the ways of the white man. While this education was going on, the chiefs wanted to continue their nomadic lifestyle. The next generation would assimilate into the world of the white man.

    The chiefs knew their way of life was ending. They traded with the white man. They wanted a better life for their kids.

    If you research residential schools, you will find most of the people working there were indians. I use the word indians as the Indian Act intended. There were many mixed race/metis communities that signed treaty and became indians.

      When you look at the numbers of some of these departments, its beyond comprehension.
      Indigenous Services Canada has almost 8000 peckerwoods, probably almost all abidiginal, and the thing didn’t even exist in 2020.

          1. Reading SDA these days, it’s apparent that many commenters are not aware of what’s been happening in the last 18 months, which is quite startling for a Liberal government. I credit this ignorance to only being exposed to the bad news, or interpreting every bit of news in the worst way.

            I don’t know if Carney will succeed or fail, but it’s interesting.

  12. I’d love to see a forensic accounting of where the quarter billion is going in Palestine. A few sacks of rice and boxes of medical supplies will be paraded in front of the tv cameras, but the real spending is to Russia and China for small arms and the purchase humus and dates for Ahmed, Muhammad, Muhammad and Muhammad digging new tunnels under mosques, hospitals and schools.

    1. Forensic accounting would likely show a very significant money laundering operation with a fair chunk winding up in a certain political party’s coffers, or dispersed to certain other politically affiliated groups with a domestic focus, or just straight into certain people’s private accounts (offshore is best).
      That’s the standard operational procedure.

    2. It would discover … infrastructure funding … for water and sewer pipes repurposed as missile launch tubes … set up in the local school cafeteria. Oh! and tunneling … lots of dirt subway tunneling.

  14. I can only assume Tucker Carlson would have advised the USA to do nothing about the Imperial Japanese. None of our business, he’d say. Cut our losses after Okinawa and run. Just stop fighting. Bring the boys home. What interest is/was the far east to America?

    I’m as contrarian as any living human … but I draw the line at willful stupidity. Tucker has no such line in his sandy brain.

    1. Not willful stupidity; Tucker does what he’s told and paid to do. Just like any other influencer.
      The contrarian persona is as much a schtick as his L.L. Bean stylistic touches.
      Now the people who are gobbling up what he’s dishing…that we could put down to either pathos laden naivete or willful stupidity (and yeah, I’m not leaving out those conservatives who used to love him unconditionally — if a person took even a peek at his past…).

  15. Fox News was right to release Tucker when they did. That he got Fox embroiled in a $800 million lawsuit factored into it, of course, but his takes were also getting increasingly awkward. His many fans declared war on Fox News at the time, but I think many have returned to the fold.
