  1. Somebody was on talk radio the other day speaking about Kirk and stated that there is this old Canadian logging saying that “you don’t know how tall the tree is until you cut it down”.

  2. He provided an outlet for their frustration. Young people in all eras are rebellious. Eventually, that youthful rebellion is tamed by employment, home ownership and family responsibilities. Today though, the system is rigged against young people. Getting a stable, decent paying job and being able to afford a house and family has become unattainable until your mid 30s. Offshoring, deindustrialization, dei and bringing in millions of foreign workers have all contributed to this problem.

Charlie Kirk encouraged disenfranchised young people on ways to improve their situation through faith and getting politically active in order to restore the American dream for youth. The left, otoh, inflames their anger by radicalizing them and encouraging disenfranchised young people to mask their faces, create chaos and throw bricks during organized protests. Two very different visions and methods…

Kirk’s positive message was more attractive and was growing in popularity compared to the left’s dystopian views.

    1. L – Yes, it is also why Prof. Jordan Peterson’s advocacy of pursuing traditional values resonated deeply with the young, especially young men. The Judeo-Christian values brought both order out of the Cult. Marxist chaos that is destroying Western Civilization, and transcendental values answer “Man’s Search for Meaning”(Victor Frankel).

It is why Peterson has been so persecuted, forced out of his Professorship and literally had to become a Canadian refugee to the only nation where free speech is a Constitutional Right. He’s the most influential Canadian intellectual in history. Sold more books in the self-help category by a country mile than any Canadian writer. Yet Canadian book stores don’t laud his achievements, because freedom of the heart and mind is where Liberty lives.

Has Canada had a turning point, too? The Freedom Convoy served as a beacon of light in a darkened world. The persecution, conviction and imprisonment of Tamara Lich and Chris Barber et al and the execution of Big Red have make them living martyrs. They can freeze bank accounts; but the torch of Liberty tossed from failing hands of Canadian citizen-soldiers commemorated so eloquently in “Flander’s Fields” ; that still burns bright. Hold it high, don’t break faith with our heroic ancestor’s sacrifice.

“Is this the Canada carved out of the wilderness by men and women of uncommon valour?”

      1. Larry,
I agree that Peterson is influential, but “the most influential Canadian intellectual in history”?
I would say that Marshall McLuhan holds that distinction.

          1. What? You didn’t turn on, tune in, and drop out?
Not one of the cool kids, I guess.
Brought to you by the medium is the message.
And by the guy who predicted that we would be doing this weird interweb shite.
            Oh well…

    2. One of the best breakdowns I think I have read. Well thought-through and articulated.

  3. Kirk had an advantage. There’s a strong tendency among some youth to rebel against the conventional wisdom of the day. And today’s kids grow up in a suffocating DEI environment at school, where one is expected to walk a narrow ideological tightrope.

Joining a group like Turning Point must have felt like a breath of fresh air.

  4. Kirk was a revolutionary. His Revolution was waged against national nihilism. Against a culture that preaches its kewl to just not give a shit. We have become a culture of surrender. Surrender to your most base instincts. Do nothing. Be nothing. Worse … be a freak. Sing about your WAP … or now, your football fiancé’s timber spreading your thighs. And every letter of the LGBTQueer-mutants demands you reject all that is good and righteous … it’s not just the ‘T’’s

We have degenerated into a culture that … essentially … worships DEATH. Worships the unhealthy – mentally and physically. Kirk’s radical message to young people was to reclaim their lives. Make their lives count for something. For him that was Christ. He radicalized that God designed you, and knows what’s best for you. That you can’t repair what’s broken without an owners manual. Internet videos of freaky, furry, anime, butt sex won’t FIX anything.

      1. Right?

The last thing I need is to go viral because of own truthful feelings/opinions. I’m more than happy to stay here Kate’s comfy little niche’. Where she believes in Free Speech … even if my speech offends some sensibilities.

Back in the day … we even had a rock song that spoke to the topic of pursuing kicks, for kicks sake … as a tragically empty and shallow way to live.

        1. Oh, Jeez, Kenji…thanks for reminding me of that stupid band. I even had one of their albums, but my excuse was that I was 8 years old and Paul Revere sounded like a cool thing.

          1. Hey! Tarantino featured them in the film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood … showing a carefree, beautiful, young, Sharon Tate dancing the Pony to PR&theR. Innocence. Joy. And then … innocence lost.

I was 9 or 10 … and should have known better, eh?

        2. Kenji, a lot of blogs believe in Free Speech, not just Kate’s comfy little niche. They all have their rules about annoying, obscene, or otherwise unwelcome comments.
