Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Gloria Gaynor is a political issue? She grew up in a poor black family. What am I missing?
If I were advising Trump … next years Kennedy Center honorees would ALL be “one hit wonders” … whose musical moments are still embedded deeply in our culture long after they faded away into obscurity.
Sometimes GENIUS comes in small, unreproducible doses. GENIUS none the less. A couple examples.

I’m literally gonna start a letter writing campaign to get Don McLean a Kennedy Center award. I mean if Queen Latifah gets so honored …

BTW … AM radio chopped-down many of these GENIUS songs … and you only have to hear the FULL versions to appreciate the full musicality.
OK, Kenji, you’re naming them….BUT…
How could you forget “Green Tambourine” by the Lemon Pipers?!
Heck, even the damn Unicorn by the Irish Rovers?
Bits and Pieces by the Dave Clark 5.
Whatever song Chad and Jeremy sang?
One Toke Over the Line by Brewer and Shipley.
Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and the Shondells.
Shite, even Valley Girl By Zappa. his only radio hit?
Standing by for your inevitable rebuttal…wink.
My only rebuttal is that The DC-5 is no one hit wonder … hence the VERY FIRST vinyl lp I ever purchased (from saving my 50 cent weekly allowance) … the DC-5 Greatest Hits

And certainly not Tommy James … hence my favorite Japanese reissue

Yeah … Green Tambourine was a big miss by me.
I concede on DC 5, whom I loved.
BUT…you still did not address Chad and Jeremy, you glorious bastard.
PS…got you on green tambourine…heh! A rare day to get you, dude.
Well … Chad and Jeremy are jussssst a bit too “easy listening” for me … but their ONE HIT that resonated with me was: Yesterday’s Gone. Still, it was a song that didn’t offend my grandmother’s senses.

A rare day to get me? Ha! You’ve FORGOTTEN more than I’ll ever know. You’re the man … I’m just a hack.
However, I must say that I quite like the ENTIRE Golden Earring lp Moonbeam (with radar love). I especially like this cut … “Are you Receiving Me”. I love the tempo breakdown about halfway thru when the ethereal, psychedelic-prog guitar starts up. It almost reminds me of a sweet Mick Taylor run.

Oh … and in the spirit of Frank Zappa … I forgot “The Tubes, Don’t Touch me There”
“… the smell of burning leather …”. Geeze, I sound like a closeted mutant.

I think the 7″ single edit of “Roundabout” by Yes is actually better than the full piece. But there weren’t many like that.
Good call. I admit that I wore out my Yessongs version of Roundabout … round bout 1974. I can rarely get enough Chris Squire or Steve Howe.
