China Is Asshole

Real Agriculture- China announces new 76 per cent “anti-dumping” tariff on Canadian canola

The Chinese government is imposing a new 75.8 per cent tariff on Canadian canola seed to begin August 14 — the latest development in the trade dispute that escalated a year ago when Canada announced tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and steel. The new tariff on canola seed, announced today (August 12,) is the preliminary result of the anti-dumping investigation that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce launched in September 2024.

  1. Man oh man! That BC ferry contract is history for sure, now!!!

    Whaddaya mean, I don’t think so…..?

  2. Hard to believe, but it appears that Carney is even more useless than Trudeau! The guy is completely paralyzed.

    1. Trudeau is a politician, or at least had them around him. They bring guns to knife fights. Carney is a bureaucrat, he brings a bigger rule book to a a knife fight, and is looking up chapter 472 when he notices every page has blood on it, and he’s feeling tired.

  3. Come on Canada! Start buying more Canadian corporations ev’s!! Like the … ? … and the model ? Uh … you know the … Chevy Silverado club cab … the Honda CRV … the Stellantis? Oops they’ve closed their assembly plant for “re-tooling”. Dodge, Toyota, Chrysler … uh … yeah … Canadian corporations …

So you’re screwing over your farmers so your nation can keep assembling vehicles for foreign corporations. Good Talk. Wake me up when the Elon Musk of Canada emerges from your brilliant landscape of pro business policies.

  4. China’s going to have a difficult time replacing Canadian canola. Their ability to increase their own canola production is limited, and there’s not enough canola from other sources (e.g., Australia) to meet their needs.

This suggests that either the price of canola in China will rise sharply, or the Chinese will move to other oils. Probably both.

    1. Yeah … it’s the Consumers who pay the tariffs. Unh huh. All those Chinese peasants won’t be able to afford their rapeseed oil … as Trump’s buddy Dear Leader Xi rapes his own people.

      In other tariff news!

The US stock market UP UP UP bigly today! The Dow up nearly 500 points … Nasdaq up nearly 300 points to yet another all time high along with the S&P setting an all time high UP 72 points! Why? Because inflation rates held steady at 2.7% … despite all the anti tariff scolds WARNING that … consumers pay the tariffs.

Yeah, yeah … the tariff increases are coming … just like Janet Yellen insisted 7% inflation was transitory. Yeah … it transitoried mega $$$ OUT of my bank account!

Damn it feels good to be a gangsta
A real gangsta-ass nigga knows the play
buyin the dip an countin da benjamins

          1. Pro tip: The truly successful investors don’t tend to brag about it on a blog, or anywhere for that matter.

    2. …or the Chinese will move to other oils.

I am sure that there is plenty of gutter oil to go around.

  5. First, Marx Carnage doesn’t need the West so no action will be taken.
Second, the CCP owns everything in China so who actually pays the duties?

  6. I suspect the Chinese do not yet understand that costs to western Canada are seen as positives in Ottawa.

    1. Either that or they are working hand in glove together because Ottawa sees us as the troublemaker. After all, the Liberal party has always had defacto Maoists in their ranks right back to Pierre Trudeau.

  7. SO back on March 20th China applied a 100% tariff to just over $1 billion of Canadian rapeseed oil, oil cakes and pea imports, and a 25% duty on $1.6 billion worth of Canadian aquatic products and pork.

So when does Chicken Dance Carney expect to negotiate with the Chinese? Or is he just beholden to them because of the loans he got as an executive for various companies?

    1. Carney isn’t like TACO Trump. Carney will not negotiate lower tariffs on cheap Chinese ev’s … because he’s protecting the Canadian ev assembly shops. Assembling ev’s for American and Japanese automakers. Go Canada!

  8. Why sell them food at all?
They steal patents and ebola from us.
The spy on us and interfere in our elections.
Plus, I think we already have a trade deficit with those Assholes just shy of $60 billion CAD.
    Suck my asshole China.
We shouldn’t give them the time of day.

    1. You have trade agreements and an investment protection treaty with them. You’re on the hook until 2035.

        1. I’ve been paying a fair amount of attention. What you might want to see done and what your government has/will do are two very different things.
          You’re stuck.

    2. Buddy – You are right about the time of day!
However we are limited in our possibilities for trading our canola.
Europe won’t take it because it is dessicated prior to harvesting. With our friend ROUNDUP.
Guess where canadian farmers get their ROUNDUP?
      CHINA!
      Nice eh!!!

      1. Well, the Feds print money everyday like maniacs…
May as well print some more and get the farmers growing something else, as long as it isn’t Chinese take-out.
We can just get some ‘retired’ auto workers to make Roundup in an old car plant.

    3. But, but, but … what about China’s 1.6 billion consumer market? That’s a LOT of rapeseed oil. Carney should go begging on his knees to some politburo functionaries.

  9. Carney doesn’t give a tinker’s dam about Canada. He wants another notch on his curriculum vitae – being there not doing anything while there. He wants to destroy Canada so that Brookfield Asset Management can pick up Canadian assets when Canada goes into default for pennies on the dollar, sell them to foreign interests and his portfolio value can increase. He is evil, a liar, and a lackluster WEF boot kissing lackey who has lived his career in echo chambers.

Why do you think that they had to restructure the Bank of England during and after his tenure there? Because he did a great job? He almost crashed the British economy. And he has been in charge of financial decisions in Canada for at least the last 5 years during the COVID scamdemic. And where is our economy right now? Foreign investment has fled the country in droves, the dollar is in the toilet, GDP is down because there is no more manufacturing, the government is hiding immigration numbers to avoid the inevitable outrage, housing starts (the only manufacturing left) are down year over year. Which part of a WEF communist stooge does the Canadian public not understand?

    1. But, but, but … Codex! Free shit! The Canadian people (the connected Laurentian elites) are addicted to other people paying for their comfy lifestyles. And paying for their eco virtue … and immigrant virtue … and mutant virtue.

  10. Canola? Meh.

Rape seed oil production is so badly beyond what is required for marine lubricant since the world wars that taxpayer money was spent to find a variant which reduced its acidity to such an extent that it wouldn’t kill people if it were used in food.

That said, it is still toxic and can’t be properly digested by humans. There are a plethora of health problems caused by the consumption of seed oils of which canola is the worst, and these problems have a cumulative effect.

Canola should be banned from being used in any form of food, including cooking oil.

      1. Ah right, so if vested interests influence a study then all must be well.

There are none so lost as those who believe they know the truth. And outsource their thinking to others.

        1. Why read the scientific research when you can take the word of Chris Kresser, a purveyor of poorly supported fringe theories?

As an example, Kresser cites this study to support the idea that canola contributes to dementia.

          https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-17373-3

But here’s the rebuttal, which of course Kresser does not cite:

          https://www.canolacouncil.org/news/canola-oil-study-does-not-prove-alzheimers-disease-in-humans/

The biggest flaw in the study is that it compared mice who had canola in their diet to those who did not. But the first group consumered far more calories, which will result in a change of behavior and subsequent cognitive differences. The study SHOULD have compared two fat-balanced diets: one with canola oil, one with, say, olive oil.

This is the sort of cherry picking of results Kressler specializes in, and why you shouldn’t trust him if he claims water is wet.

  11. Kevin Walmsley (inside china business) as always has a succinct summary … in some of his videos early this year he noted that USA … with Canada in tow are viewed as unfriendly and thus unreliable and switched their supply chains from France , USA , Canada to Russia and Brazil.

The blame lies not with China.

Tariffs wiping out American farmers on all sides, and farm equipment manufacturers are laying off

  12. We use canola oil and yet we live! Not sure of the provenance of the health scares but suspect corn-oil lovin’ America. Meanwhile, Carney is quick to prop up the BC lumber industry and others, but is silent as the grave on the effect his China EV tariffs are having on canola farmers. Guess they didn’t vote in an acceptable way.

    1. Of course, it has to be America’s fault that you can’t sell your canola oil to the Chinese. I suppose you can increase your domestic consumption of the stuff, or maybe see if you can convince the Europeans to buy it. Or talk to your pals the Chinese, I’m sure they’d give you a great free trade deal.
Whatever you do, do not try to talk to the Americans…elbows up! (although to be honest, we’re not going to take up the slack for your entire Chinese trade in canola, being honest here)
Or perhaps take the hit (which you’re lined up to do anyway) and plant less canola — your production numbers for that product were already going down as of last year, and it isn’t as though you can’t grow other things.
