2. It’s not just the building permit fees, but every other “developer fees” and mandatory features. Mandatory Fire sprinklers, mandatory solar, no nat. gas. structural regulations that make simple wood frame homes into indestructible fortresses … sorry, it’s overkill for the building type. Landscape plans with irrigation limitations and detailed calculations. CA C.3 regulations that prevent any and all drainage going into storm drains, but must be drained onsite. All exterior lights have to be “night sky” certified … It goes on and on.

   The era of getting a building permit from sketches on the back of an envelope … over the counter … are so long gone … and it’s the primary reason why there is such a housing shortage in CA … and prices keep spiraling out of control.

      During the 1994 Los Angeles blackouts after the earthquake, it was the “strange, glowing light in the sky.” Hundreds of people called in to report it, only to be told they were actually seeing our galaxy, the Milky Way, for the first time!
