Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Because I am stuck in the 70’s (evidently) … and don’t get out much (culturally) … I have only tangentially read the names … Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in print. I literally had no idea who they were or what they did.
Then … I read Ace of Spades, and SEE these two baby-talking weirdos and ask myself … really!? This is the template Hollywood has chosen for their new Hollywood diva actress? These two balding women are taking wayyyyy too much Mounjaro and are wayyyy too Bi-curious for my taste in women.
Whatever Hollyweird is pushing that these two are in? Sorry. I’m OUT. No … not in the gay way.
It’s a damn shame with Grande, but she’s been on a slide for several years now, starting with her startling reaction to the Manchester disaster.
She was actually a pretty cute, petite thing when she broke out of the Mickey shadow. Not my kinda music, but hey, easy on the eyes.
Now, she looks like a fricken patient in palliative care. Hollyweird entirely.
I thought “Ariana Grande” was a cup size at Starbucks.
The Maher/Oswalt chat itself is a snapshot into the mind of a liberal residing in his cozy bubble, but one should watch Maher’s talk with Jane Fonda for a 20×30 3D landscape of utter cluelessness. I’m convinced she isn’t that stupid and was just playing dumb.
Y’know…being an actress.
“I’m convinced she isn’t that stupid and was just playing dumb.”
When you see something like that, you have to ask yourself: “Could she be that dumb -and- that rich? Really?”
There’s another question I like to ask as well: “Could anyone who ever earned a paycheck in their entire life, even once, believe any of that cr@p she just said?”
Lying liars lie. That pretty much covers #HanoiJane. Lying liar since 1972.
Dumb, but she had a nice bod and connections. That’s all you need in Hollywood. Being an activist helps too, not everybody gets to crew a North Vietnamese AAA emplacement.
Using your crotch as a career tool doesn’t hurt either.
I think that’s pretty much automatic. I’ve seen Team America, I know how it works.
Geez, I tried using my crotch as a career tool, and I merely buggered my career.
The hollywood Nepo baby got all of her dad’s connections to use to make sure she never went hungry, and he was a lunatic leftist as well.
Yes….however Bill Maher is a little late in coming to some of his insightful ‘observations’, these are topics that have been discussed on this forum for years.
I went to a movie theater late afternoon yesterday.
Saw Sisu 2.
I’m pretty sure it and the original, now playing on Netflix, aren’t Hollywood productions.
It was so violent I think Tarantino might faint if he sees it.
Thankfully, unlike a Tarantino film, there isn’t too much talking.
I fast-forwarded through the first one on SnotFlix the other day. IMHO, while it was very non-Woke, I’m sad to say that non-Woke by itself is not enough to make a watchable movie.
Could be I’m just too old, but hate and mindless gory violence doesn’t have all that much appeal. Better used as a spice than a main dish, right?
Too much talking in a Tarantino film … hahahahaha … then you must have LOVED the opening of “Once Upon a a time in the West” … with zero dialogue for the first 8 minutes.
Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (probably my favorite Tarantino fantasy flick) has a bit more talking … hahahahaha ha … and a stellar soundtrack.
Playing the Stones “Out of Time” while Sharon Stone drives and parks her Porsche … is stupendous.
https://youtu.be/pXP1MSFwMnc?si=eGLG4AAPeucSEnzu
Stupendous … in a macabre manner
Yeah, didn’t think Pulp Fiction would be topped for a while…then Once upon a Time in Hollywood came along.
Great flick.
Kenji, I think you meant Sharon Tate, not Stone (sorry to be so picky). “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is hubby’s favourite Tarantino movie. For me, the first six minutes of “Inglorious Basterds,” with Hans Landa and farmer LaPadite, is some of the finest cinema ever filmed; it is sublime. Tarantino’s soundtracks are always amazing.
I was typing like a maniac to squeeze that last bit in before the edit time clock went off … and my brain farted to the wrong Sharon. Facepalm. Thank you for the gentle correction.
Well, at least you didn’t write Sharon Osbourne.
Basterds is tops on my all-time POS movies.
I would have left long before the ending if I was there alone.
Curious, why is that? Brad Pitt’s overacting or something else ? I think he was meant to be a caricature. I think.
He was better in Fury.

Brad Armpit and his wives,, HA HA HA olly wood in a redux nutshell.
The Pikey.
Buddy, I didn’t like it either. But I generally don’t like alternative history movies because the payoff basically comes from the acting, that is if the actors are good, and not in the climax, which you know to be false.
For me the story is the main element of any good movie, or book.
I didn’t like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for the same reason.
Well, it was the fact that they clearly had the resources to make a serious and worthwhile movie about the Holocaust, and they used them to make a Val Kilmer-worthy spoof. It seems wasteful and cowardly, no matter how much fun you find in it. It’s not technically bad, but it’s painfully not worth doing.
“But I am claiming that they are definitely putting on a show of lesbian touching for the largely-gay fan base of the movie.”
I agree. And it’s fake as hell this scissor-sister act. And it’s staged. When was the last time you saw a man put his mitts on a woman during an interview. The feminization is also very obvious in the meta of movies. Women will not be saved by a man, they are doing perfect allright thank you very much. As a matter of fact they go out of their way to make a woman save dude’s butt in action movies, never the other way around. The last James Bond was a perfect example. The girl who bretayed him didn’t and he’s an asshole for suspecting her. The new 007 is clearly his equal even though she is new. Security doesn’t recognize him although he saved the world 12 times. I like little Ana DeArmas and she kills it in that dress, but of course she has to refuse his flirting, she saves his butt and lays a beating on 3 or 4 large killers in hand to hand in her pretty dress. She sorta laughs the whole things off and goes home. In Casino Royal, killing a man was rough, nasty business, not a ballet.
I always think of the all-female remake of Ghostbusters and simply ask … why? Who asked for this? Who could EVER top Murray, Ackroyd, Ramis, Moranis? Why bother? I didn’t.
Did this remake empower girls or something? SMH
We won’t even talk about the Fembo Oceans 8 nonsense either.
Another atrocious feminized *sequel* no one asked for.
I started saying “No way” to that crap when “Kill Bill” came out. I have never given one second’s viewing to any r3tard flick with 100lb chicks tossing around 250lb linebacker types. Thanks, but nahh.
There ARE action movies with strong female protagonists I’ve enjoyed. Alien, for one. I even liked that one Alien vs Predator flick with Lance Henriksen that had a bunch of them fighting
aliens and predators underground in the Antarctic. A female prevailed in the end and that was worth a watch.
Ghostbusters Fembot version? I’d not watch that if IMAX made it free.

John Wick 4 had a female fighter (Rina Sawayama) that put in a good performance. She is 5’7″ and was fighting Japanese men with a bow and some martial arts so it looked semi-believable (in the John Wick universe). She does get her ass kicked against the larger men that come later and barely makes it out with busted ribs, etc. There is a pretty gruesome scene where she repeatedly stabs a man trying to get away. The point I guess is that she had to work for it and did not just breeze through a phalanx of goons without getting her hair mussed.
Come on … Kill Bill is a totally fun cartoonish romp. I believe Tarantino even interwove actual cartoon scenes with the human scenes. He told you what you were watching. And it was all chick fights, or chick slicings, and chick black mambas.
I think Gina Carano is a very credible female warrior broad. I especially liked her in Haywire.
With the exception of Schindler’s List, I don’t think there’s been much of value from Hollywood in the last 30 – 40 years.
I was bored last night and watched, for the first time, the much-touted Captain Phillips. Ten or fifteen minutes before the ending I shut it off because I had a headache from all the shouting and I was sick and tired of turning the volume up and down.
Funny you should say that.
I haven’t watched Hollywood at all for the last 30 to 40, and I feel fine,
I am aware that I miss “cultural” references, but I don’t care whatsoever,.
I do, however, enjoy Tiny Desk concerts and MUSIC.
PS… Tarrantino and all of those guys were highly overratted.
Tremors was campy, and gruber on the tower. that’s it.
I kid, for those lacking a sarc tag…but I also mean it.
Alright … Tiny Desk Concerts and Antiques Roadshow. Other than that I don’t have much use for PBS and am super happy joyful that Trump CANCELED Christmas for those leftist c()nts.
PS … I played a Tiny Desk recording over a pictorial sequence of my son at his funeral. I esp. liked this version of the tune … with an aging Jackson Browne voice that cracks with an emotion that was particularly fitting. Sad, but the sentiment fit the circumstances.

Give Snatch a try. Pretty much outside of the Hollywood mold. Or Apollo 11 if you like documentaries. It stars Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. Seriously.

The last movie we saw on the big screen (other than TCM oldies such as Maltese Falcon and Wizard of Oz) was Clint’s Gran Torino. It was thoroughly enjoyable.
