So many good comments on X. Europe made commitment to buy energy from the US. Trudeau said there was no business case.
What this means is that we will be exporting energy to the US who will mark it up, and export to Europe and you can bet your boots that oil from the US will not be “decarbonized” in any way shape or form..

I’m not convinced that the US will mark up exported Canadian petroleum resources for the EU. The reason would be to put the squeeze on Putin and remove the EU’s dependency on Russian energy products. At least in the short term, in order to finalize things with Russia and Ukraine.
That’s one of Trump’s calling cards. He does his best to remove the Pentagon from conflict resolution, and instead leans heavy on economics. It’s one of the reasons General Mathis was such a piss poor chief of staff in Trump’s first term. Mathis didn’t like that approach because it takes the military down a peg relative to importance.
Oil is fungible. If the US sells energy to the EU for more than it pays to Canada, it is the same thing, regardless. Shithole.

how about a 300% tariff in the USA on everything exported from Canada to the south,

Trump promised impose higher tariffs on countries that infringe on free speech. I don’t know if or how that was included in these negotiations with the EU, but hopefully Britain will be forced back off of their insane laws regarding that. And no offense to Canadians in general, but after reading just today about how Christianity is under attack in Canada, and how people who speak out against government policies are being de-banked, etc., I hope Trump spanks the pants off of Carney with insanely high tariffs until he comes to his senses on this.
