Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Bond movies lost me when Pierce Brosnan came along and they became too serious.
gotta admit Daniel Craig did good in the role, he actually got ‘hurt’ and ‘almost died’ etc. much more ‘plausible and realistic’ imho.
cant vouch for the brosnan version since l didnt see it lol
Craig was probably closer to Fleming’s Bond than anyone else.
Yeah … I was DONE with James Bond after they retired Roger Moore. Who didn’t like the campy Bond of the 1970’s!?
/sarc.

Me. My opinion: I thought Pierce Brosnan was the best for bringing his class and sophistication to the role, then Timothy Dalton for his seriousness and toughness, then Daniel Craig came along and beat them both.
Roger Moore was fun, but a bit too comical for my liking.
I’d dare say that when I was dragged to see Goldfinger by an older step brother at 9yo … it totally changed my entire connection to the movies. My friends and I all played Sean Connery … the suave, deadly, calm, badass Bond.
I thought I was going to some boring adult movie … “Goldfinger”? Like a wedding ring? Boring!! Man was I in for the ride of my young life. And Thunderball followed soon after. My brother and I were real ‘fish’ … so the underwater Bond was superb!
No one EVER duplicated Sean Connery.
I had this discussion with one of my adult kids awhile back. A couple of points I made is that the movie are predictable because they follow a formula and Hollywood has lost the art of telling stories about regular people. They are heavy on shallow, dystopian themes and light on inspirational stories that evoke deeper emotions. The only modern movies that manage to achieve the magic of 20th century movies are ones written by exceptional book writers, both past and present.
I pulled out some of my favorite dvds of pre-21st century movies to watch with my kids. They liked the stories but critiqued the production quality. The only other complaint was that in the older movies the main character often dies.
In my opinion, the best shows are now on streaming services. Not so much movies but a few tv series with multiple seasons or a limited series. The ones based on books are still superior. I assume streaming companies have more room to be creative and take risks. There is also a lot of garbage shows, of course, but better options than the what’s available at the movie theatres.
I went to see The Accountant 2 in the theatres last weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed it – I am a 73 year old woman and it spoke to the teen-age boy in me who enjoys lots of mayhem and action. I also enjoy watching Jason Strathan movies for the same reason.
For me, the best movies happened in the1980’s and 1990’s. I will drop everything and watch “GalaxyQuest” if I see it on a streaming platform, same for “Clueless” and “Drop Dead Gorgeous” or “Wild Things”. From the 80’s, I enjoyed the Kathleen Turner movies and “Working Girl”.
I could care less about the Marvel universe.
I lean towards emotion heavy movies of the 80s and 90s but, yes, even the action films of that era were more entertaining. One of my kids recommended I watch the first couple Jonh Wick action movies and they were pretty good. I am not a big fan of the comic book movies, though certain actors make a valiant effort with their characters.
To be fair, with the increased focus on international business, I’m not sure movies like On Golden Pond, The Bridges of Madison County, Driving Miss Daisy or Steel Magnolias would draw in the “key demographics” to be a blockbuster.
You rock JMM! You’re my kind of 73 yo gal! Haha
Meanwhile, karma:

I guess TV/movies in general cater to majority. Which is the generation born and raised in a eco-woke-socialist media/academia. Sure there are exceptions like decent TV or movies where you’re not lectured or groomed into whatever the big shots have in mind. But the norm is just garbage for entitled/self-righteous generation who has everything and doesn’t need to fight for anything life&death. So out of boredom probably they invented fictional concepts like ‘micro-aggression’, ‘gender-fluid’, ‘Islamophobia’ etc. This is the audience they cater to.
“The Modern Audience” doesn’t exist, and movies that cater to this fictitious entity all flop hard.
The Blues Brothers car chase scenes are always a howl.
You really think AI can put Stephen King out of a job?
He put himself out of a job. He hasn’t written anything worth reading in well over a decade.
“He put himself out of a job. He hasn’t written anything worth reading in well over a decade.”
He should also try keeping his mouth shut about his politics. NO ONE CARES what he thinks.
I hate being fair to Stephen King, because he’s such a creep. But in fairness, he had the sense and decency to make metric shitloads of money first, and only then, when he could afford to limit and repair the damage, did he start behaving like an idiot. As it is, he’s easier to ignore than to hate. And he could have been much worse, so I think we should give him credit.
an opportunity to repeat a prediction l made some 40 years ago being in IT at the time and seeing the direction, current technology (ie of the day) and general mindset of the players (pun intended). that is, when AI technology starts to show up as court evidence, we truly are pooched.
oh look, it already happened a cpl weeks ago, l win!

Movies suck now, because the audience has learned to see through the ‘curtain’, and they don’t see real world behind that curtain. It’s like religion, all BULLSHIT.
Since every other movie coming out of Hollywood in the last 10 years is a LGBTQueer coming of age story, or lesbian romance, or gay parenting film … I assumed you would be LOVING Hollywood’s tripe?
Western movies suck now. The rest of the world is making good movies.
“Parasite”
기생충
Yup. Lotsa good movies outta the far east.

Evil will be the first out of the gate with this new technology, hopefully it is recognized.
The first thing has already come out of the gate. Its not evil, its slop.
most assuredly recognized. and readily and willingly adopted
and followed like any one of the 20,000 cults out there.
that, Phil, is *da essence ub da probbem*.
AI will probably commoditize movie production.
Companies are already making cheap hardware that you can run your own AI on.
For around $300, you can have your own local AI that can help generate code, do things like license plate reading, for around $1500 you can get into facial recognition. These prices are dropping. Companies are already making cheap hardware that you can run your own AI on.
Within a couple years, any Tom, Dick or Harry will be able to make content with what appears to be pretty high production values.
Hollywood is doomed, and that’s a good thing.
Artists will still make movies, but they won’t be the total BS corporatized movies and TV shows made by the likes of Hollywood.
Artistic vision has nothing to do with making a buck, never has and never will.
well yw, if one of the consequences is there is no longer a demographic like the old hollyweird ‘legends’ spouting social commentary like the new ones, that can only be good lol
Last movie i went too see was No Country for Old Men. Great flick.
Now i sit at home and watch whatever i wish to see. No charge outside of my internet bill.
The Best Years Of Our Lives.
They don’t make them like that anymore.
