   This is pretty accurate
   Will add that this has been the standard operating procedure of Canadian politics since Canada became a thing.
   The people in charge cannot admit the US system of governance has allowed the population to become richer and more powerful than a “constitutional monarchy”. To admit such a thing would likely put them out of a job.
   Trump is an accurate example of American exceptionalism and those like Trudeau who got ahead because of the gene lottery and Carney who got ahead by toadying his way up the bureaucracy are the result of a constitutional monarchy (aka system of patronage). In the Canadian system you might get successful but the folks in charge will make sure you are never more prosperous than they are.

      This is exactly what happened, some of us could see it in real time, the booing at hockey games, the buy Canadian-buy anything with a maple leaf on it, whether it’s made here, packaged here, repackaged here, didn’t matter, even if it costs more, the flying of the Canadian flag, singing the anthem by people who would otherwise never. It was so fake !

      If there was one good thing the old GDR did right, it was that they didn’t hammer the old German guilt into students’ heads like West/Modern Germany does.

      The East Germans were once hard-core loyalists to Die Linke, which was formed from the ashes of the SED, which was the old Communist party that ruled the GDR. The AFD has made major gains, which is why Die Linke is one of the most vocal advocates in banning them. Old habits Die hard.

9. There is much speculation as to why the Liberals won as to why the Liberals won. I wrote (here) when their demise seemed imminent that Trudeau’s rise to power should be recalled. The NDP structure was certain to view the Liberals as a much better alternative to the CPC. Every one of the CPC leaders has been painted as “far” right demigods and this will continue. Trumps rhetoric made this extremely easy to exploit and they seized the opportunity. Crying and blaming over spilled milk will accomplish nothing.
   In recent days it has been enlightening to hear the views on the election. A large portion of my older demographic are pleased with the results and want to give Carney a chance. Most of the younger people are severely pissed ,primarily at the older generation. It isn’t without cause. Many in Saskatchewan and Alberta are ready for a separation vote. I would strongly caution haste on this idea. The Liberals have successfully separated themselves from accountability for the previous 10 years. The press is portraying Carney as installing the “Conservative” agenda. I have seen CBC pundits calling for the referenda in Alberta, likely in the correct assumption it will fail. While I am sure Carney was trying to woo NDP members into his party , they know that would finish the party. They will have more effect independent and have already been thrown a bone (dental plan). However, they will keep the Liberals in power. In the near term PP is effectively shackled. It will take some time for the true agenda to be revealed. Jumping into a referendum at this point is a tactical error. I think central bank digital currency ,a home equity tax. possibly a capital tax and surely a larger carbon tax are all on the table. In the meantime the fear program about Trump will continue. As we have seen haste obscures scrutiny. I think their greatest weakness is arrogance. Ours is impatience and under estimating the cabul.

      1. Right now there is to many scared people and who are anxious to believe things will get better without change. Figure out how best to protect yourself, but be prepared ,for this is not going to be painless. Some very good people have sacrificed a lot in the last 5 years. We can’t afford to lose.
