I wonder if we can borrow DataRepublican for a bit to sort through all of the Brookfield filings and disclosures to see what beneficial ownership Carney had at Brookfield as the Chair of the Board and Head of transitional investing. I could only find one transaction when he joined the board in 2022, but one would expect he would get shares and options in his role, and typically companies ask their board members to have a specific amount of ownership in the company they run, unless they are an “independent” director.

    1. I’ve been having those same thoughts of late, watching this hellspawn Liberal party resurrect itself from near-death.

      After all, what did nine years of Harper really get us? He abolished the long gun registry, but otherwise left the framework of Canadian gun law intact, thinking, no way that Liberals would ever re-implement a registry if they came back. Joke’s on Harper; the Liberals just skipped over the registry part and moved straight to outright bans of “scary assault rifles” post-Portapique.

      You can repeat that exercise on any file Harper touched. Whatever incremental improvements he made to the country, were nearly all quickly undone the moment Trudeau returned the Liberals to power. The entire Liberal framework of Canada was left wholly intact for them because Harper dismantled none of it.

      I see that very same “caretaker” mentality in Poilievre, and in O’Toole before him, and Scheer before him. The Conservatives act as able administrators of a Liberal government while they are in power, and achieve little of lasting value. Having four or even eight years of a Poilievre government who acts in this same manner only acts as an interlude until the Liberals return and continue their relentless leftward march.

      So yeah, maybe give Carney his majority on the backs of ON & PQ and let them treat AB & SK as national punching bags for another four years, and let AB & SK get on with real secession movements already.

  19. Carney is woefully unprepared for his new job. He’s already let a journalist get under his skin, which is a massive no no when you are a politician. He doesn’t seem to understand the system he’s now working in, as it is a night and day difference from the days when he was cloistered in a CEO position or in his office as head of the B of C. It’s not just Poilievre that will seize this opportunity, but any journalist looking for a juicy story. He’s effectively declared open season on himself without realizing it. Just have a look at all the Liberal financiers on X that are frantically carrying water for him today.

    1. I agree. I think you learn a hell of a lot as any kind of elected official, including how to handle various kinds of people. As smart as Carney is, he’s never had that experience.

      Carney is used to dealing with underlings that he could smack down if they irritated him, but he can’t fire journos because they piss him off.

      Fortunately for him, he’s a quick study and he will get the hang of it.

  24. You gotta hand it to the libranos. They took a minority government and ran out the clock to a full term. I don’t know if that’s ever happened before. Then they took a 2 year beat down in the polls to the point their hated leader was driven from office. Then, voila! They pull a rabbit out of a hat and within weeks go from a 25 point deficit in the polls to leading. You have to admit it’s been quite a feat.

    I think it goes to show the CPC was never that popular on it’s own. After 10 years of the Bong voters were pissed and wanted an alternative. The libranos offered up one in MC.

    The libranos pulled a fast one. We now have a country without an active government. An unelected appointed Prime Minister who gets to decide when the next election happens. You can’t make this stuff up.

    I guess we’ll see who Canadians will trust with their vote at some point this year.
