  1. Part of Trump — the part that listens to Pater Navarro — wants tariffs to balance the trade deficit.

The other part — the part that listens to damn near everyone else — knows that a trade war would raise prices and throw hundreds of thousands of Americans out of work, and might even trigger a recession. There’s already a name ready for it — the Trump Slump.

This bipolar behaviour is not good for anyone of any nationality.

      1. I know, I know, I know.

Trump’s your idol and it hurts to hear him criticized.

        1. The difference between someone who can admire Trump for getting the stuff he gets right (most of it), and those who worship everything he does regardless of how badly he screws things up isn’t a small one, is it?

As for Thug Fraud: I wonder if the unionized (OPSEU) store clerks at the LCBO are going to re-re-re-shelve ‘merican product. Again. With overtime.

Comparing Thug with Rob is like Zappa’s quote: stupidity has a certain charm, ignorance does not.

        2. I think much more likely some car company CEO’s said ouch, and he likely got legal advice that CUSMA prevails and he will lose.

    1. “This bipolar behaviour is not good for anyone of any nationality.”

Bingo! But wait, it gets worse, the constant reverses are destabilizing for US domestic producers. Uncertainty is as bad or worse than an inferior outcome.

      1. I agree. Everyone is likely hoarding cash rather than investing because they don’t know what to expect.

  2. Perhaps you ALL need to read a much better written article about the temporary, partial, exemption to his tariffs.

    https://www.thedailynewsonline.com/news/trump-delays-canada-mexico-tariffs-for-goods-under-usmca/article_96a6267c-fae8-11ef-8ef1-5f1889a88e38.html

The article that was posted is just lacking any detail of the decision whatsoever. Geeze. Try to think deeper than the emotional girls (identifying as men) who are writing stories because they HATE Trump

  3. It’s about leverage and negotiating from strength. Canada and Mexico have very weak hands. They’re holding 2-3-4-6-7 and no flush.

  4. It is amazing to hear the vitriol statements about from Trump people who find how he speaks so abhorrent. It would be a darn shame if are so called leaders are mistaking opportunities to avoid tariffs for weakness. Meanwhile isn’t it amazing the amount fentanyl labs that have recently been discovered in Canada. Contrary to popular opinion , I suspect Trump is totally aware of the situation in Canada . I also suspect he has not forgotten Trudeau’s reactions and comments when Biden was installed he thought Trump was toast nor his association with China.

    1. I swear, at times I just don’t know what Trump is thinking. Half the time I don’t see what he’s trying to do until it’s done. And always I get the impression that he’s two steps ahead of everyone else.

His detractors like to call him stupid, insane or suffering from dementia, but he disproves them repeatedly.

I like everything he’s doing…except for the tariffs. Those tariffs could undo all the good he’s doing for the US, and surely he can see that. Or maybe not. Who knows?

      1. The tariffs are for a number of rather good reasons, from the US perspective. Addressing open borders, and the drug and human trafficking across them, was a big part of Trump’s campaign platform and his initial concern. There is also the trade imbalance, where the US allows Canadian firms to sell in the US but American firms don’t have access (or easy access) to our markets (such as with cheese and other dairy products, because of supply management). And he’s trying to bring manufacturing back to the US, using tariffs that are protectionist of native industries.

Politicians like Ford, who is running around with hair on fire as he takes paid-for US booze off LCBO shelves, have totally missed all this. Due to malice or incompetence I can’t say.

On the side of malice, note that tanking the Canadian economy dovetails nicely into the push for left/socialist centralized government planning of the economy and WEF-style “you will own nothing” for the masses.

On the side of incompetence, the supply chain disruptions due to government covid-era lockdowns ought to have made everyone (governments, local communities, and individual families) think about upping their self-sufficiency game. (Trump is doing that, why can’t we?) With 40 million people in this country, we really ought to be able to make much more stuff here and sell to each other. If we are vulnerable to the viscitudes USA, we are orders of magnitude more vulnerable to China. And no politician has mentioned THAT.

  5. Oh well…

I know we’re all going to be poorer one way or another thanks to the leading idiots in this place.

The free trade agreement or whatever they call it today never meant anything to me, all things being equal I guess I’m about two thirds as wealthy as I would have been on the other side of the border, and I always met tax collectors at the border.

Our rulers, the US, whatever, tariff the crap out of everything, who cares…

    1. Actually 60% and declining by the year. It has gone from 90% to 60% under Trudeau. Quite a legacy. You remember the old adage that the US economy is 10 times bigger? Now it is 14 times bigger, and with relatively less population growth.

  6. Canadian leadership was faced with two options:

    1. Clean up our act, get rid of the Chinese assets in our leadership, secure our border, go after the drug manufacturers and negotiate on tariffs.
    2. Do none of the above and “Stand Up To Trump.”

That all 3 big parties chose (2) is proof positive that Canada is in fact a Chinese puppet narco-state, and all 3 big parties are in on it.

    1. Check mate.
      Also
      Casino laundry
      Mortgage laundry
      Foreign aid laundry (China?, really!)
      Auto theft
Ports, rail, air – open borders under fed regs
      On the take.
      Sam Cooper is the man

  7. Maybe I’m just suspicious, but that delay imposes the tariffs the day after the carbon tax increase. That’s an instant double-whammy.

  8. Trump is letting us dig our own grave.
Tariffs imposed on Canadian Consumers are going to hurt a whole lot more in Canada.
Especially if the Carbon Tax increases as intended.
Much more of these “Political Victories” over Bad Orange Man and we won’t have a pot to piss in.
I note with some amusement, that Canadians call out “Stupid Pointless tariffs war” and then announce billions of dollars of spending on promised Arctic Military bases..
    Bases unheard of in 2024..
Empty promises with Parliament shut down..But what a coincidence..
We are resisting Bad Orange Man ,who has pointed out our defenceless and indefensible position…By doing exactly what he requested.
Except the funding needs approved by Canada’s Parliament,so Dear Leaders proclamations are just more Liberal Lies.
Has anyone thought of following the money?
    Who benefits from Canada’s collapse?
What is the fastest way to collapse Canada?

    Which is cheaper?
Making Western Canada an attractive offer to join the USA?
Or reelecting The Liberal Party under Marx Carnage, wherein Western Canada will beg to pay to join ?

    Rights and Freedoms.
    We Canadians ain’t got none.
And none of our political class will admit this.

Join the USA,we get Constitutional rights and freedoms,.
Constitutionally guaranteed protections from Hysterical Nitwits in Government!

Could an independent nation write ourselves a better constitution than that the USA already enjoys?
Can we afford to print our own money?
What kind of military can we afford?
Who gets to blow up the French River Bridges?
Or do we just give SNC the maintenance contract so they become unusable for decades?

This whole “Trade War” is a storm in a teacup.
    Canada can not win.
The USA will hardly feel any change.
Our government will tariff and tax us into poverty..
We will feel the Ottawa Love, long and hard.
And they will attempt, once again to take control of Western Resources, for our own good of course..

    Like I have mentioned before.
I suspect that President Trump was just trolling Canada and using the tabloid headlines to draw attention away form the real business in Washington.

Until the hysteria of Ottawa provided a window into a once in a lifetime national interest opportunity.
One a casual observer would never have suspected.
    Now?
I think reelecting The Liberal /NDP party is in the USA long term interest.
Never has Canada been so weak,so divided and so ripe for a reasonable and persuasive offer.

Justine and his cadre of demented schoolchildren have worked long and hard to bring us to this point.
And when Alberta promises to hold that referendum,Ottawa will compound the insult as they promise to “protect” The charter rights of all Canadians.
