Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Yes, tariffs that they have bribed almost all Canadian politicians into supporting (including our so-called ‘conservatives’)…
They would all -instantly- go out of business if they had to compete fair and square with Ontario and the rest of Canada, to say nothing of the USA. They’ve been protected and limited to quota for so long their farms are hopelessly obsolete.
Another socialist scam. Yay.
With the tariffs Canada places on foreign agriculture, maybe the U.S. should just go to a trade embargo.
This is part of it. But the most the US wants to do is get at the telecommunications industry. We are all getting ripped off but everyone is like – ‘I’m Canadian!’. Stupid people.
Airlines as well. Consumer banking? Not sûre either are big enough; but télécoms certainly.
Hell, I’ve basically quit dairy just to not support the Quebec cartel.
As for telecommunications I’d be the first in line at the Verizon store. Best advertising for literally any other mobile service is Bell, Rogers, and Telus. Hell, allow Vodafone from the UK in, ANYONE.
I’m paying $35/mo for 60Gb, unlimited US/Can/Mex calling and texting.
Spell out what “Ripped Off” means. If that means “you’re too lazy to seek out other options than the Big 3”, I have no sympathy for you, for staying with a Big 3 plan.
Sure. I’m the same on minimal phone service. But $100 for cable or internet service each? What am I missing?
what are you paying for milk and cheese?
what is required for good cheese, and I don’t care where it’s from.
gourmands demand good cheese.
I think you mean “gourmet”… a gourmand is a glutton.
Hey, some of us gluttons want quality with our quantities.
I join you in that complaint, the dairy cartel is out of control. You have lots of choice in phone services. TV is optional.
Expecting it and home internet for free, or “cheap” or so is unrealistic, frankly.
Just the cost of the equipment, at the COs, to bring you 1GB+ internet, would BLOW. YOUR. MIND. And that’s not mentioning the FDHs, the underground network, the feeder network, the redundancies built in as a failsafe, the RE network, etc, etc, etc.
That’s why home internet costs $100/mo. Or, you could live in India.
Or, you could live in a dial up world.
Calling me names, insults or otherwise, ain’t gonna change it. And, if, by a stroke of luck, Verizon, ATT, or other, comes to CaNaDuH, their billing won’t be cheap either, as they will have to build a similar network for similar services. To add, if those companies really wanted to be in Canada, this would be the time for them to BUY OUT BCE and/or Telus, when their stock price is crushed, and using a 1.47 Am$.
But, they are not. The Canadian market is a black hole for outside providers. They would have done it by now if it was worthwhile. Clearly, it’s not.
Retired Insider.
Yank here. What we do is to send milk produces subsidies so that they can sell at market prices and still survive. Y’all do it differently — you protect the market, driving up prices so the farmers can survive.
So make Trump a deal — You’ll drop the food tariffs if the USA drops the subsidies to farmers that lower the prices. Will Trump take it? No, but the gambit will make the point that all countries do (and must!) protect its farms and food-growing abilities.
What subsidies are currently in place for the US dairy farmer right now? I am not aware of any. USDA has in the past done interventions by buying and storing dairy products including butter and skim milk powder but I don’t think there is much in inventory right now.
Waiting for SDA’s Dusty Old Farmers to set us straight.

Canadians have no ducking clue. Ottawa has been helping Quebec fleece us for a long time. But orange man bad. Trump has the balls to call us out. Someone should have long ago. Our government is corrupt as as hell. TD Bank pays almost a 3 billion dollar fine in the US for money laundering. Say it again 3 billion
No one is even charged in Canada.
Should nt someone be in jail. They used the procedes of their crimes to donate to the Liberals
I know..

We got more tariffs than you can shake a stick at.. But if Trump does it?.. I don’t think this is going to end well for us.. In a trade war America has other options.. We do as well, but what good are they if they are more expensive..
Flag waving, America hating Canadians have no idea who and what pays the bills.. We will have our election in the near future and that will determine how good or bad things are going to be for the next 4 years..
Like Covid 19.. 2/3rds of the nation is bat scht-crazy and the other 1/3rd is looking on in horror..
“He would say that,wouldn’t he”.?
From a court case long ago and far away.
Everybody has their little Canadian Patriotism grift.
Corruption.
Embrace it.
It is your heritage.
Can Ahh Duh.
I thought the dairy tariff in Canada was about 250% but I’m not certain if that’s for butter, cottage, sour, milk, and all the cheeses… however knowing the one tariff works well enough in the argument.
25% vs 250% … it may be worth knowing as well that Quebec is guaranteed 50% of the industrial dairy sector within Canada. Even if you could produce milk for cheese in the west for $1. per gallon, you couldn’t sell it as Quebec has the market, and you’d end up dumping it as unsaleable.
Agree, Marc. We’re stuck with buying overpriced Québec dairy products while they sneer at our oil. They prefer Saudi oil it seems.
Rather think the label should show the PROVINCE of production.
Friends just came back from States, bought some Vermont cheese that they like, made the mistake of telling Canadian custom officer they had $30 of it.
He ummed and ahhed about it, said that anything over $20 is subject to 260% duty….but “will let you go this time”. They would have thrown it out rather than pay duty. Team Canada at its finest!!
Orangeman Bad….
The US is allowed to export a limited amount to Canada duty free. Anything over the agreed amount has the huge duty. Nobody really pays the duty. Canada exports a small amount compared to what it imports. If we didn’t protect our dairy industry we wouldn’t have one. We shouldn’t allow any American dairy. They allow hormones that encourage cows and milk drinkers to produce copious quantities of milk and turn everyone fat and gay.
There are also 275% rate and 300% rate. Not sure if it is for poultry or dairy.
The US Trade Represtentative is very upset with the government claiming the available milk quota is taken up by cross-border shoppers.
Agriculture producers of all sectors in Quebec are organized under one umbrella organization.
All sectors generously subsidize by a supposedly indebted province that would then go cap in hand to the federal governments that then with its power take from Alberta to finish the scam. Equalization!
I have sold grain in Saskatchewan for less that what a Quebec grower was subsidized.
All Canadian political parties agree on the question of quebek dairy. Not one of them will break rank, dairy is off the table. It’s a fight to death, the country be damned.
The black swan is Trump. Only he can break the cartel. When the trade talks begin Trump will do all Canadians a great service if he can crush the cartel and open the market to competition. I’m not holding my breath but I am hopeful. It’s our only chance to bring this madness to an end.
Absolutely! Conservative, Liberal, NDP, Bloq are all in lockstep as far as support for Canada’s dairy Cartel is concerned. Just like they were for pissing on our freedoms and ruining our economy with all the Wuhan flu bullshit.
“Absolutely! Conservative, Liberal, NDP, Bloq are all in lockstep as far as support for Canada’s dairy Cartel is concerned”
Yup. Everyone but the PPC, sadly.
What’s worse, potential employment for yorgurt production in Canada was blocked. There wasn’t enough domestic milk quota and the company could not get import quota. The rate of duty meant that it was cost prohibitive to produce.
Why is American cheese so bad?
Not made in Quebec, or deposits dollars in a Quebec bank account. Bad, very bad, to the everyday Canadian….
Wisconsinites cannot vote for the Liberal Party of Kanaduh, so their cheese is illegal.
Don’t forget that every politician and subject (we are not citizens) in Canada point at the grocery retailers and blame those dirty capitalists for the high prices caused by the politicians themselves, and gleefully accepted by said subjects.
The current tariff regime is dictated by the USMCA (CUSMA in Canada) agreement. In the U.S. it was signed into law in 2020 by Donald Trump.

If #47 has problems with it, perhaps he should blame #45.
Maybe but the Kanuckleheads wouldn’t budge back then either. It had to be known that this would come back.
Are you saying it’s like a union that gives up overtime pay in the CBA then goes to court because the members just realised they got screwed? Like the AirKanucklehad flight attendants?
Yeah, I notice everything Trump does is brilliant and everything the Canadians do is stupid on this website.
I don’t think it’s the web site that does that.
Talk about grift. Agropur a Quebec cooperative also operates in Wisconsin.
