      1. Been there. Can’t be done in southern Ontario without demolishing billions of dollars of buildings and relaying track. Now FOAD.

      2. GYM

Why do you want to give $3.9 billion to the likes of AtkinsRealis (the renamed SNC Lavalin) for a study?

The $3.9 billion is not to build it, it’s to study it some more.

          1. Could be.

But perhaps the Liberals want half to go to exec’s, and $2000 to each SNC employee, with the understanding that each employee keeps $1000 and donates $1000 to the Liberal Party.

  1. Clearly the environmental benefits will be so massive that the project will enable all carbon taxes and levies in Canada to be cancelled.

    Otherwise, why do it?

  2. The country is about to be taxed into oblivion & we get a monorail.
I wonder if the ending will be the same too.

  3. How does a prorogued parliament and a resigned prime minister announce new spending and project promises? It’s time to put that guy in jail already.

    1. BigD: “How does a prorogued parliament and a resigned prime minister announce new spending and project promises?”

Shhhhh. You’re not supposed to notice… or think, if you do notice.

    2. I agree a prorogued parliament should not be able to allocate funds to a new project! And as others have said we need Energy East to be build not a fricken Monorail in Quebec with money from the WEST!

      1. They’re actually not allocating funds. They’re just making a press announcement.

It’s the same as an election campaign promise; i.e. meaningless.

  4. Clearly, a joke that no one wants to pay for, including taxpayers along the proposed route.

The best railway was built by the unfortunate lately now disgraced, John A. MacDonald and his financial backers, with imported immigrants plus Canadians who ventured west.

    1. …Built the mines, the mills, the factories, for the good of us all.

If a songwriter penned these words today … your government would condemn them to an indigenous re-education camp … with Neil Young as Guest scold. And they couldn’t leave till they wrote a song about their own personal land acknowledgement.

      And you think I mock … ?

      1. Hey Kenji,

We should have a bet on which will be a bigger boondoggle, the Train to Nowhere in California or this one in Canada!!!

        1. Well Robert … I believe we are $ tens of Billions in wasted spending ahead of you … although Trump just may successfully pull the plug on the Federal contributions. Though CA voters are just dumb-enough to keep the trainload of funding chugging away …

BTW … I predict a mass casualty and death incident with the train during its first year of service between Modesto and Manteca

  5. If Ottawa and Montreal want a rapid rail, pay for it yourselves, provincially. This is NOT a project of much benefit to the rest of Canadians. Another Trudeau boondoggle directed to Ontario and Quebec Liberal voters.

He still does not have a post-PM job, so is on the hunt for directorships somewhere.

    1. This is not really a thing, as in I will never ride it because it won’t exist, but you can be sure of the initial 5 billion, SNC Lavalin or whatever they call themselves, Bombardier, and several of the Laurentian Elite will dine out on Alberta’s money. We just got a small taste of our need to get our resources to tidewater, and so we get a fast train to move some Quebecers and a few Ontarians quicker, or give them an alternative to air? This is so unserious a country as to make the Euroweenies look grown up. I do note that VP Vance thought it worth his while to try to slap some sense into them, would he bother with Canada?

    2. No one wants him.
And he has no lasting legacy that they can hang his name on.
      Ironically
At the end of her last term in office before her party was reduced to unofficial status, Wynne made a similar promise.
Here’s hoping the federal liberals enjoy a similar fate.

      1. It is my most fervent wish that if PP gets elected, he immediately changes YUL back to Dorval.

Justine has 1 Trillion of debt as a legacy, sadly, it will last.

    3. It is not much benefit to Ontario or Quebec either.
How many people are going to use it? What would a ticket cost to use it? Probably not on the cheap side.

  6. In this modern work from home world within a fifteen minute neighborhood, the Liberals want to build a new 4 hour train ride for the business community.

  7. A projected $3.9B price tag from the government that turned an $80 thousand dollar app into $60M, that bought a pipeline for $4B that’s somehow cost us almost $40B to do nothing with.

      1. As opposed to the study in 1984, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1998, 2003, 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2022?

Several of which have been completed by SNC Lavalin

Actual cost will be somewhere between $300 and $450 billion.

  8. Coulda had a pipeline
Its targeted at the voters they need. Who cares that it will never be built. Other than that there is no significance.
If Justine wants a legacy name a brand of pot after him

    1. If the Hairdo-in-Chief wants a legacy, he could start his own designer socks company.

Then, after that fails in six months plus/minus, he could try his hand at cosmetics, specializing in fake eyebrows, eyeliner, and lip gloss.

On the bright side (there’s always a bright side), after his cosmetic biz fails, he could fall back on ski instruction. He is a pretty good skier after all.

But if Trudy really wants a lasting legacy, he should try to break the record for “The fastest Fall into Obscurity”.

        1. Some Montréal law firm will. It will be hoping to cash in on the Trudeau name for clientele and lobbying purposes. He’ll just be paid to sit in a corner talking about how great he is; nothing else.

  9. Regional Jets get you there faster, cheaper, and…

Seriously would be tough for this boondoggle to compete with the airlines, and it would take a century or two to turn a profit. It will never be built, why the silliness?

  10. I would still like to know why Air Canada was listed in the proposal unless they are a consultant on shitty customer service.

    1. Air Canada is a de facto Crown Corporation. Privatized on paper but still subsidized by the taxpayers. So it gets some of the loot the Turd is throwing around.

  11. Why?

Because we currently subsidize each VIA Rail passenger a paltry $1,025.00 … so we need another number or two added to the left of that decimal.

  12. No new fighter jets. No new icebreakers.
A new rail line between 2 cities that already have highway, rail and regional jet connections.
Also, I though Parliament was prorogued.
“We don’t need no stinking Parliamentary approval to spend billions!”
So, money we don’t have, spent on something we don’t need or want.
One more step towards becoming a US protectorate.

    1. They’ve made a press announcement. That’s all.

It’s like an election campaign promise; totally meaningless.

      1. Sure, joe.
A forensic audit wouldn’t show any money going to this company.
Pull the other one, its got bells.

  13. Maybe they’ll start by building a train station, because I can think of a few people that need to be taken to it.

  14. In 2020 Via burned $668 million from the government to haul a million passengers. Each ticket they sell costs taxpayers $668. Passenger trains in Canada are pure horse crap. It would be way cheaper to build roads to the few isolated communities that actually rely on rail.

  15. Pre election hype in quebekki.

It won’t get built but pretend to thrown around some $. Fwenchy votes liberano.

    Case closed

  16. Same thing with the Bongs double down on Ukraine. It’s all about votes. He promised all kind of support last time. He delivered a small percentage of what he promised. Maybe the Uke vote will be fooled again.
