This project has been announced countless times since the 1960s.
No doubt the consortium will study the California high speed rail project, to better learn how to drive up costs while building next to nothing. The longer the project duration the greater the management and consulting fees.
Rent seekers delight. It will never get built and it shouldn’t get built. It would be far cheaper to give everyone a free bus ticket to travel between those cities.

PP should make cancelling this taxpayer-fleecing cesspool (does anyone remember the CN Turbo Train that also plied these rails?); however, since I supsect many of the parties looking to get rich off this bondoggle are located in Quebec, this may be – bad pun intended – a “third rail issue” for PP re his potential Quebec electoral prospects (which is proably the resaons the Liberals sprung this thing when they did)
I rode that Turbot-thingy. The head end and rear end had turbine engines, the bar looked into the engineer’s seat. You could read the speedo. At times it closed up into 90MPH, but then we had to pull over and stop for a freight train. Darn, have another drink. And it stunk like diesel exhaust.
Yesterday, Trudeau gave away the Queen Charlotte’s to the Haida. Today, he’s promising Japanese level transportation to his leeches in the Laurentians. For a lame duck, he’s leaving an almighty mess.

Have you not seen the recent polling numbers? PP is turning out to be about as popular as as seafood salad left out in the hot sun all day long. We’ve gone from slam dunk majority to minority at best. Give it another week and PP will be back down in opposition territory again.

Correct cgh. All this Liberal/MSM crowing about the so-called Carney Bounce are based on skewed, intentionally-slanted polls are a Liberal psych-op and are part of what is called a “permission structure”
The Liberals believe (correctly) their natural base – which they have alienated – needs “permission” to vote Liberal again and since much of their base are sheep, then “everyone else is doing it” – the technical term is an “appeal to social proof” – supposedly provides the Liberal base with its required “permission” (that the Liberal hope/belief, anyway)
Because so/too many Canadian “conservatives” are as conventual, trusting and complacent as the Liberals, A PARALLEL FUNCTION of the Liberal‘s “skewed poll psych-op” is to get all these “conservatives” shaking in the boots, having their testicles (assuming they have any) contract up insides the bodies, “moderating” their views” and deferring to the moderating influence of the Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal political consultant class (Peter McKay – the doofus – among others, are waiting in the wings). The hope here is that the Conservatives – who are known in the UK as “The Stupid Party” will shoot themselves in the foot yet again by becoming a bunch of apologizing, backpeddling, indecisive, infighting, chinless nitwits, or at least become Good Laurentian Liberals (the same thing really) yet again.
PP and the Conservatives would do well to keep their eye on the ball, stick to the facts, keep hammering the opposition on their odious policies and forget all about these polls.

Entirely right, Eric. Pollsters are simply consultants. All competent consultants provide the answers their clients want. In the case of polling, let me formulate the question and I can provide you with 90% support of anything you like.
As you and I both know, there’s only one poll that matters: voting day and the actual vote results. The rest is assorted propaganda. Carney and his assorted thugs are more than rich enough to afford any propaganda they want.

The Angus Reid online poll is not a random poll. It’s done by people signing up with AR to be regularly polled. Easy to skew and pollute the sample base. GIGO.

High speed rail for politicians is like getting face tattoos, it’s an admission of total degeneration.
They have “allowed the devil in to have it’s way with them” as Jordan Peterson says and they’re warning us by their actions.

Montreal to Quebec was only added to the original plan of Toronto to Montreal so that Quebec received as much pork-barrel spending as Ontario. Not that high speed rail can be justified financially anywhere in Canada, but Montreal-Quebec is not viable at all.
Of course, they will start at Quebec City and build west, and the project will be cancelled once they complete the Montreal-Quebec section.
That’s the nicest road to drive in Quebec. Who wants a train between those places?

The train track to Gaspe runs right along the shore, but it’s not usable in it’s present state, though the station still exists.
If a bus service can’t survive, then a train is dead.

Let’s see, the Trans Mountain Pipeline went from $4.5 B to over $25 B after the Trudeau Government took it over. Bets on this one anyone – 25 – 50 B $? It is after all a Quebec based boondoggle and I am old enough to remember the 1976 Olympic boondoggle and the 1967 World’s Fair boondoggle. They all have one thing in common: a boon for the Quebec and a financial doggle for the rest of Canada. In other words, a financial cluster fook. No, we need an election NOW!
My back of the napkin estimate is $280 billion+, given that the route doesn’t currently have rail lines connecting it, the rail lines that were there have been abandoned for the better part of 50 years, and for some bizarre reason it’s going via Peterborough, thus avoiding Kingston, and all of the somewhat decent sized towns along the lake.
Every crossing along it’s path will have to be grade separated at a cost of between $30 to $50 million.

High speed rail Windsor to Montreal? Can’t happen for a host of technical reasons. The existing track cannot be refitted to high speed rail standards regardless of how much money is spent on it.
This is all aside from the fact that all transport needs in this corridor are already being met by Highway 401 and air flight.
