Ottawa’s corridors are no stranger to cozy relationships between the federal government and international aid organizations, but few cases highlight the deep entanglement between government foreign aid funds and political influence quite like Cuso International.
On the surface, Cuso International is a humanitarian organization dedicated to foreign development projects. This charity — funded with nearly $180 million in taxpayer money from Global Affairs Canada since 2015 — has been quietly steered by a leadership team that includes several generous Liberal Party of Canada donors and insiders.
True North has discovered that four members of the organization’s board and executive leadership are listed as donors to the Liberal Party of Canada in Elections Canada records, contributing a combined $11,279.60 when individual donations were added together.
According to Cuso International’s financial statements between 2015 and 2024, the organization received a total of $179,434,291 from Global Affairs Canada via its Volunteer Cooperation Program and other funds. When accounting for GAC’s total budgeted funding going back to 2007, that figure reaches nearly $289 million.
This funding accounts for a significant portion of the organization’s overall revenue, with GAC contributions making up as much as 69.18% of total revenue in 2016.

The funded project objectives are telling. Cuso International’s projects align almost perfectly with the Trudeau government’s progressive priorities — diversity, equity, inclusion, gender equality, and climate change. Those projects include the ongoing “Blueprints for Gender Equality” towards which Global Affairs Canada budgeted $2.5 million to “foster more open, inclusive, and gender-responsive governance in Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”
Canada is not rich enough to fund foreign aid – I wish for the next government (hopefully conservative and Mark Carney is kicked to the curb like Michael Ignatieff was) to emulate President Trump and have a moratorium on all spending (especially foreign aid) until an external review is done. As President Trump has requested, if the money spent does not safeguard Canada, advance our interests in the world or make money for us, then it does not need to be spent.
Sadly, I am old enough to know that this will not happen, but I am the eternal optimist and hope for it.
Unfortunately, even if the Conservatives win the election I don’t think PP has the stones to take the necessary action this country needs with respect to over spending, DEI policies, gov’t bloat, etc.
Can start with asking Ukraine to give a few billion back.
Next should be an examination of the “Turdeau Foundation”.
I can’t even begin to imagine the incestuous relationships of Liberal Party Members and “projects” in this giant gift organization.
Who voted for Jean Chretien to start the foundation with 125 Million dollars of taxpayer money? And there was no pushback whatsoever, no investigation of any of the relationships at all.
If you read their financial statements, they still have that $125 million. For some reason, none of it has been spent.
The term mentioned at University was—-“There is only one Tax-payer!” The Liberals have ruined Canada financially!
I don’t see how we will ever recover!

What a pathetic subscription for needless misery.
Always had a gut feeling there was something sinister in a Modern Liberals , and proven fiscal conservative lack of depth when it comes to consequence ,for the underpinnings of a society as a whole.
Well here we are a total systemic moral collapse of responsibility from those with honorable as a title.
I have no respect for the guilty in high places.
They are a waste of any concern even for what little humanity they still possess.
And their transparent values are reflected by many people in this country.
At least an honest beggar is burdened by atonement and the weight of circumstance of choice, and has a higher value than the pieces of sht that buried what put a fire in your belly that’s out of sight and mind for the up and coming generations.
Pathetically sad and insane.
For what , control and money.
Life has no meaning to these people.
Good luck to them the last few hours they have taking a breath. I hope their minds are restless.
I really do.
