The firings will continue until morale impoves;
• Musk aides restrict access to federal employee data systems
• Musk’s team works around the clock, installs sofa beds at OPM
• Concerns include cybersecurity and lack of oversightAides to Elon Musk charged with running the U.S. government human resources agency have locked career civil servants out of computer systems that contain the personal data of millions of federal employees, according to two agency officials.
“We think they’re building a massive email list of all federal employees to generate mass RIF notices down the road.”
As someone who is on the leading edge of building websites (and their backends), I’m often appalled by the legacy computer systems of large private companies I’m brought into. I can’t even begin to imagine how archaic the computer systems of the American federal government are. Musk and collleagues have probably stocked up on Tylenol and vomit bags.
“We think they’re building a massive email list of all federal employees to generate mass RIF notices down the road.”
And just exactly how is that a bad thing? I’m not seeing a downside.
“We have no visibility into what they are doing with the computer and data systems,” one of the officials said. “That is creating great concern. There is no oversight. It creates real cybersecurity and hacking implications.”
Well, actually, less people in the system creates less chance of a security issue or hacking. Less likely someone clicks on the link from a Nigerian prince.
Only upside, the way I see it.
Full Milie!! Effing awesome.
Exactly.
November 2024 jobs numbers for the US: 280,000 jobs created. 40,000 of those were jobs in government.
Absolutely unsustainable, unless the liberal desire is to eventually have every American working for the government.
Safe and effective.
Maybe not safe, but very effective.
“”We think…”
Don’t do that.
Musk should set up a live public feed of fed employees being asked “what would you say you do here?”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StIcRH_e6zQ
Trump and Musk know that in the US, just like Canada and most western countries, the Bureaucracies are the biggest threat to the Republic and democracy.
Snivel Servants Serve Themselves First.
There is a joke which has been around since at least the mid 1960’s,”Why do civil servants not work in the morning?” The answer is “Otherwise, they would have nothing to do in the afternoon!”
During the summers in university (1972, 1973) I worked as a relief secretary for various federal government departments in Ottawa while people took their vacations. A very few times, I actually had work to do. Most of the time, I read or knitted – I was just a pleasant face to greet people. Yes, I was thankful for an easy summer job (I was paid $ 10.50/hour which was a lot of money in those days – especially for doing nothing!), but the government could have saved themselves so much money by NOT hiring relief staff.
My public servant neighbor prepares documents – pulls staples – for scanning.
I shit you not.
I don’t know if that puts him above or below stamp licker.
He’s not a tool user – my line in the sand between useful and useless.
That would be a document preparation specialist in government speak, $90k minimum plus, plus, plus
My daughter had the same experience as you during her summer job with RevCan. She’d have nothing to do, while another secretary was over loaded, but due to union, she couldn’t help handle the work. And the long lunches on Fridays when almost no one returned to the job. Had a neighbour who left private employment for the Government. Another hard worker, she was told to slow down as she was making the rest of them look bad.
Yep. That’s the culture in the government “work” force. Your daughter’s observation is not the exception. It’s the rule! I can certainly attest to that from my own personal experience working as an outsourced contractor.
Ottawa (the city, not the government) will eventually pay for their gravy train, as the money flowing into the fed’s coffers is about to run out.
Now about that tweet…
How can any civil servant with a straight face claim to be “non-political,” when his screed has TDS (or in this case, “MDS”) written all over it?
I love how these useless eaters and occupiers of space think this is a bad thing.
“Sidelinging hundreds of employees”, and your point is? The time for a housecleaning is at hand. To quote the Light Bringer, “Learn to code” There’s going to be a lot of jobs available soon for picking fruit and such. Also, in Boar’s Head packing plants including sanitizing those crap holes.
Psssstttt… the memos are coming from inside the house.
It was fun watching Tim “no lips” Kaine lose his mind on the Senate floor telling civil servants to not take Trump’s generous 7 month offer. Ummmm…now is not the time to be taking shi**y advice.
Can we hire Musk after he’s finished flushing the shit out of the US government?
The weaponized autistics brought in sofas! My god the working it burnses!
Yeah, sofas are a big clue. If you’re an employee, nothing good ever comes out of that.
Isn’t it amazing how a person like Elon Musk arose at just the right time and just the right way to do eXactly what he is reportedly doing now? Musk’s resume` could have included the bullet points “Recently oversaw the restructuring of a massive, bloated bureaucracy filled with hostile obstructionists” and “Dramatically reduced labor force size at a gigantic institution in order to decrease costs and improve efffiency”.
I thought the same kind of thing when Reagan rose to power and when Trump came along to prevent Hildebeast’s installation as President. Just the right people with just the right background at just the right time. Is it Providence, Big Luck, the fulfillment of an old gypsy’s curse, or some profound quality of the American culture or politcal system?
The wrong person can come along at exactly the wrong time too. We’re lucky right now.
Dodged the Harris bullet — barely! Just like Trump dodged the assassin’s bullet back in Butler, PA on July 13.
But if the assasination had been successful, Haley would have been installed as the nominee at the open convention and we would have had the first election in which two women of Indian descent competed to be US President. Historic!
Haley would have received exactly HALF of Trump’s votes … as voters like me would have simply not voted for President. Haley would have set-back women of dot.Indian heritage back decades.
As it turned out … we got JD Vance’s beautiful, and brainy wife. And their adorable … melting pot … mixed race kids.
Sounds like a high-intensity counterproductive fiasco, like the one Musk carried out at Xitter. They are so screwed.
I hear SpaceX is doing fairly well, UnReal.
So much for that narrative!
What launching rockets for 8% of NASA’s cost is good? Not 8% less, 8% of.
The Musk that built SpaceX is gone and replaced with this meme-and-drug addled political warrior. SpaceX people are probably glad to have him away/
Has anyone calculated the average market cap value of having Elon Musk as a corporate founder?
Wow … the cognitive dissonance you display is simply EPIC
You sound jealous, UnHealthy.
“U.S. government human resources agency have locked career civil servants out of computer systems that contain the personal data…”
I hope to hear that all federal employees including remote ones, are cut off from servers until they can be cleared as legitimate merit hires not diversity hires and brothers-in-law. Such controlled access should also reveal ghost payrollers – staff that have resigned, retired or died still collecting salary and benefits. Ghost payrolls are an old fraud kinda like ghost voters – voters who have died or moved not purged from the voter rolls. Both types of spooks are part of the long time Chicago playbook.
Government has been paying 80% of them to stay home and do nothing remotely, and now, suddenly it’s an issue.
It took Argentine President Javier Milei 40 seconds to downsize government, here’s the video:

I don’t think all these federal employees are reading the room.
The vast majority of American taxpayers are overjoyed at the coming massive RIF’s and agency /department closures. There is no sympathy or empathy for government employees in most of the country. This feels more like payback for the last couple of decades of being gaslit and having been treated like pariahs. Pariahs who paid their salaries and benefits.
Maybe not safe, but very effective.
I think it is brilliant. The US government’s obesity problem is titanic.
Government polices everything except crime.

I heartily applaud ALL that I read of Musk’s doings. It’s all good.
But … is he also putting an end to Cabinet members of the government setting up private servers in the basement bathroom ceiling of nefarious CRIMINALS working in high Cabinet positions and defrauding America?
And putting an end to EPA directors using fake names Anton private servers to hide their REAL activities from FOIA and the American people?
