The Food Professor– “The percentage of food products that are entirely Canadian—where every aspect, ingredients, manufacturing, packaging, distribution and retail, is sourced or performed within Canada—is very low. It might be less than 10% of all food products sold in Canadian grocery stores.”

The majority of Canadians have no idea of their food vulnerability. Over the years I’ve had this discussion many times and rarely do you encounter another Canadian who has even thought about it or realizes the precarious position we are in.
Maybe we’re going to find out.
“We Need a Famine”
Seems that Kate has been pointing this out for a few years. We should all welcome this potential action, along with everything cut off, including land border access. I want our Canadian idiots, er, politicians to live up to their threats, they just might get what they least expect.
Let’s just say that if Canaderp is stupid enough to cut off energy supplies to the US, it wouldn’t be terribly surprising to see the 101st Airborne doing what it does best.
This country needs a comeuppance like it’s never seen before. This country is too much like Cuba North, and don’t think that Trump and his team don’t know that. Correcting that problem would be most welcome, those that object, can relocate to Cuba permanently.
Ever wonder what it would be like to be watching an inbound torpedo, with nothing you can do except wait for it to hit the broadsides? Looks like Canadians are about to find out.
Now it is a question whether Canadians will be smart enough to blame Potato’s junta ineptness for this or will they fall back on patented anti-Americanism thus allowing Potato’s junta a recovery in the pools. I am not holding my breath. Add to that Dougie’s re-election adventure and PP will win less than otherwise in the next federal election.
Depends which side of the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border they’re on.
SK and AB seats are not at play. PP could do nothing but shove roman candles up his a$$ between now and the federal election and he would have won. It is Morontario and Queerbeck seats that are vulnerable.
we trade carloads of wheat for chardonay and miller light in a bottle. everyone is clueless. they think a french label sets the origin as canaduh
Hopefully Agribusiness will see this as an opportunity to buildout their manufacturing and packaging here in Canada. I’m not holding my breath…
A recent letter to the editor of the Winnipeg Free Press was by someone who said they would only be buying cars made in Canada from now on. Good luck with that. Even if assembled in Canada, many of the parts originate in the US.
I’m not worried. Any day now Pee-Pee is gonna summon up the courage to go see Trump.
Or maybe he’ll call him. Yeah, that’s it. You know, one of those hush-hush secret calls.
Certainly in February. The 29th seems like a good day.
You Libranos are so pathetic. Poilivre cannot speak for Canada yet, any attempt would be pilloried by the turds bought and paid for media, and for lil potatoe’s unthinking acolytes (you).
SaltPeter. Jamie is a PPC supporter, dummy.
Pepe has been unduly quiet, busy polling his consultants on exactly what to say.
The only thing he has said is, “Me too” in regards to retaliatory tariffs.
Jeez, inspiring. Once again, he supports Trudeau’s actions in a crisis, just like he supported Trudeau throughout the Covid tyranny.
That’s not how a prospective PM acts. He needs to have a distinct position, not just Me Too!
🙂
You’re so silly when you pout.
Very much back in day, the rising cost of food was an issue. In response, some Ottawa bureaucrat (male) said that the problem was that the women weren’t baking “from scratch” as his mother had, but were purchasing cake mixes instead. The comment, loud and clear, was simple: it cost more to purchase the ingredients for a “from scratch” cake than buying the mix; the manufacturers paid waay less for flour, etc., than the ordinary family did.
Some years later, same issue but this time the response (I think it was Chrétien) was to the effect that the problem was too many families insisted on having fancy imported food during the winter instead of just having the basics. My response was even the basics – think carrots and cabbage – were imports so what was our family supposed to eat.
Out here, local food right now is beans, beef, and barley, with a side order of tomatoes from greenhouses. So we’ll have an interesting diet should sanctions hit.
I, and my Canadian chickens and cows welcome the hunger and pain that is incoming. Trump is doing us a favour. Hopefully we don’t squander the opportunity to reeducate the weak and sickly among us who survive on US Food-like products by providing Canadian grown and harvested real foods. Remove the cartels and the cross-provincial red tape and lets see what we can do for ourselves for once.
Trump is bloviating. Angling for a better deal. The simple fact is most Canadian exports are inputs for Made in America products. If Trump wants to tariff that, well he can explain to his electorate why they are paying more.
If anything comes out of this, my hope is that Canada unleashes its natural resources to drive down energy costs and start building our own shit for ourselves and the world.
Trump wants energy costs down, simpleton, get a better argument. If you think we unproductive 40 million can do anything that the productive 340 million south of the border will notice, you’ve smoking too much of justin’s legal weed.
I think it is unlikely that Trump will put sanctions on things like Canadian oil, which would cause highly visible inflation for US consumers. The greater risk is Trudeau putting an oil embargo or export tax on Alberta/Saskatchewan oil exports, in retaliation for some Trump tariff that is seen to offend Ontario or especially Quebec.

That is the ultimate opportunity. That may drive Alberta to separate, ending this joke of a country, good riddance.
Voluntary starvation, eh Trudeau? You’ll put the entire nation on a hunger strike to protest Trump? While you dine on Omaha Steaks flown in on RCMP helicopters? Ohhhhh … you are sure that Gavin Newsom, your butt-buddy will defy Trump’s tariffs and fly-in some CA produce for free? Trust me … Trump will shoot those transport planes out of the sky … and he’ll order the shoot down from the 8th green, like clipping a hangnail.
Freezing in the dark while starving.
That is Can Ahh Duh.
The fragility of our supply chains came to Canadians attention briefly , during dread Covid, then was immediately forgotten.
9 meals from societal breakdown..
Jeffery Dalmar was just a bit ahead of his proper time.
In Urban Canada he would be getting book deals today..
The Jeoffery Dalmar Urban Cookbook.”
We have lots of grain and soybeans… not that you could figure that out from our food labelling regime.
Oh good, carbs and crap estrogen producing protein, we’ll be even softer than we are now, which seems impossible.
Hahahaha …
Carbs, protein and exercise, as in work, creates a healthy and strong individual.
“The greater risk is Trudeau putting an oil embargo or export tax on Alberta/Saskatchewan oil exports,”
Yeah either way Saskaberta will be getting effed by greater can•of•duh. Seems a typical Trump grenade can shatter a country already divided by its own governmental regional discriminatory practices.
In the leadership vacuum (a 9 year crescendo of doom) Provinces benefiting from such practices now seem more independent and act as if they are viable on their own.
It’s a perfect time to get out, but it seems, despite a very long list of pros, heartland Canadians are unwilling, unsure, as if crippled by Stockholm syndrome or perhaps affected by a leadership vacuum of their own making.
At the very least, some attention should be paid to the given, logical reasons for the tariff threat Trump made ( noticeably unmentioned above). This, in itself, will improve tenuous circumstances and give leverage against oppression.
One week and most grocery stores are out food without re-supply, every town and city, so I have heard.
Children of government in canada should regret their votes, but they’ll believe media deflection instead.
I should not have to regret their vote or their stupidity.
