Ross McKitrick- Poof. Canada spent $50b + in subsidies to build unwanted products for a market that just vanished.
Everyone is focused on the US withdrawal from Paris and the tariff threat, but several other Executive Orders yesterday will have even more radical impacts and will require Canada to rethink all our energy and climate policies in response.
One of my contracts is related to emissions reporting for an international oil and gas company. I hope to get an update soon on what the US division plans to do go-forward.
Were it not for government support of the moronic, easily-disprovable, anti-scientific scam of AGW, neither US nor Canadian oil and gas companies would have spent a penny “fighting” the non-existent emergency.
Now that it appears the US side no longer has to pretend it is playing ball, I wonder if it will drop the act. And if they stop then it will immediately outperform the Canadian division.
Which if the Canadian gov’t does not follow suit, might hasten even more Canadian firms selling their Canadian assets and focusing on their US ones.
well well well. lOOks like we’se got the political equivalent of ‘Hulk Hogan’ or perhaps ‘Arnold Schwarzenegger’ in the white house. and its just, what, day 2? this pace he’s gonna have it half done by those famous ‘first 100 days’.
seriously, the man is SAVING LIVES. even indirectly thats okie dokie.
it wasnt just Donald Trump dodged a bullet that day, the whole nation did.
Hogan not Schwarzenegger.
The Terminator came out of the closet as a girlyman for Kackles.
Schwarzenegger gave up his serious person card when he went for a bike ride with Scoldilocks, and then gave her a tesla
“We already have trouble attracting foreign investment and the competitiveness gap just opened very very wide.”
That’s an understatement. Canada has been bleeding investment capital of all kinds for a decade. This is particularly in the direction of the US. DJT doesn’t need to impose 25% tariffs. The decade-long capital divestment program alone will demolish this country. Well done, Justatwit. You’ve succeeded in unifying Canadians in poverty unless they were well-off enough to park their investments outside Canada.
It boggles the mind how anyone could be so utterly incompetent as to demolish the economic value of a country which is a large net producer of petroleum and natural gas. But Justatwit and his thugs have done the seemingly impossible.
If only the central banker in charge didn’t create some of the conditions that led to the situation Canada finds itself in now, I wonder what he’s doing these days…
I have to wonder, since the US has gotten rid of the EV mandates are justine and dougy dumb enough to think the auto makers won’t stop making vehicles in Canada if they don’t do the same. Think of the billions they would save. There would be so much crying from them and Ontario.
Lots of cars built in AB, right?
AB reacts just as their owners want them to, magical super-conservatives that they are, ON is no better, except I don’t see Ontarians hating on the west as bad as I see Albertans hating on the east. PET mission accomplished, and both sides swallowed the BS, hook, line and sinker.
Why would Ontarians hate on Alberta? Ottawa has used them as a cash cow, and to date they have barely mooed. Quebec on the other hand has fed off both, yet Ontarians are petrified the frogs might get uppity, which they routinely do.
…except I don’t see Ontarians hating on the west as bad as I see Albertans hating on the east.
If you don’t already clearly understand why Albertans despise central/eastern Canuckistan, then no explanation is possible.
Canada is a dumb satellite country to the U.S., inhabited by dumb people with no patriotic identity, 10 territories with no unity in values, run by crooks who sold out several decades ago.
This piece of shit land could be proud, it’s already super rich in base materials but it’s occupants are not prosperous because we are sold out…this is a cold northern country that costs a lot to just survive in its harshness thus the abondant energy it has should be super cheap in compensation, attracting development with needed immigrants…
Trump, please take over.
Metal, my friend … Canada is a protectorate of The United Nations. The UN sets “Canada” policy. Bow, scrape, and Obey the UN bureaucrats.
… or embrace the MAGA-controlled USA. Your choice.
How many of US on Small Dead Animals have said Electric is not going to work in this climate! Our distances are too far apart and the temperatures are too cold! Charging stations too limited and too far apart!
Electric vehicles are not the answer——The Professor and Marty had the answer with the Delorean and the Flux Compasitor!
We could get lots of garbage from the EAST!
How billions did Trudeau waste on this idiotic idea!
Ross thinks 50 billion!
Elon is designing a car that runs on microplastics that are just floating in the air. Billions of tonnes of microplastics … just clogging our lungs.
I amuse myself … almost as much as The Professor
We really should be much wealthier & healthier in Canada.
All of us – excluding the last decade of imported thieves.
But wisdom was doled out to but a few, and the Turdhole Dominion was born.
Raise a white flag in surrender, it’ll be brown in no time.
I have been voting in federal elections since 1963.
I voted Pearson because of Deff.
I voted Pierre the Turd in 68 because of Deff.
I saw the light in the Oct crisis and have never voted Liberal or less again.
I went from a proud Canadian to a B.C. separatist.
Canada needs an honest government/Prime Minister.
Unfortunately I don’t think PP is the right person.
You speak well for an 80yo … far better than our outgoing POTUS
dief was GROTESQUELY indecisive.
my papa fumed about how he ‘favoured the prairie farmers’
and a truly pathetic sight at the Conservative convention when he
was pried out of the leadership.
Dalton Camp. that was his name, he orchestrated the ouster.
see? all this happened in my early teens and l still recollect it.
AND l sure as shyt didnt fall for TURDeaumania like the rest of them.
l resented his cockiness. he lowered the voting age so l voted against him.
my instincts were spot on the entire time. l guess that’s when l started puzzling
over Canaduh’s fondness for SH** running the country.
I suggest you move to another country
Many would but I always held out hope that people would wake up. I was wrong and the average IQ has now dipped to a level that we may never recover from. Stupid people vote for stupid people.
Yup. Turdo and Blubber Douggie. Joined at the hip. What’s that Shakespeare line? Oh yes…
“Two arseholes, both alike in dignity, in fairy Canada where they vote like sheep. “
Why would anyone invest in Canada this year?
Everyone wants to “buy the dip” … and next year’s dip is going to be spectacular.
Butler on X/Twitter was saying this am that unemployment is rising…

lm speculating that after l sell in these much higher than avg trend housing prices, l could, by some stretch, use the remaining proceeds to buy back in when there is a record surplus, (like SERIOUSLY damaged housing market) some 3 room ‘shack’ for pfft, 30K, all l and my 400 pounds worth of part mastiffs need.
lots of variables. we shall see.
lm actually kind of glad l was born in ’51, just in time for the ‘british invasion’ and just in time for my autism’s superb analytical skills and excellence with numbers matching up with all those mainframes that need me lol!!!
Funny thing about those “energy-efficient” products from light-bulbs to washers & dryers to refrigerators & freezers. My electricity bill NEVER went down. They sold them (at a higher cost than the previous items) to us based on “energy efficiency”–but I never saw any savings when my so-called energy inefficient fridge was replaced or I exchanged my incandescent light bulbs for LEDs (at a substantially higher cost).
