I think the dead Indian who sat 48 hours in the Winnipeg hospital emergency room before being noticed holds the all time Canadian record. I suspect hundreds if not thousands of Canadians die every year because you wait two weeks for a doctor’s appointment if you can find one who will see you. If you are really sick then you go to emergency and wait 10 hours to see a doctor who barely speaks English. You are then sent home and told if you are alive in 48 hours and still sick to come back. You can’t find a doctor but have a chronic illness you will die because emergency doctors don’t do long-term treatment plans well. I remember when Canadians used to brag about their health care system. It’s been a while.
Not much to brag about these days.
Remember, whenever someone talks up ‘Canadian values’ and the need to defend them, this is what they’re putting on a pedestal.
try and get a dermatologist referral in SW ontariowe.
nearest l could find a large multidiscipline clinic in tranna, ironically one of the sources of the difficulties the rest of us are having.
the other being ottawa, narrowing it down to the PMO.
I did read the article, very sad situation. Wait times in the hospital is very long and sadly their is no end in sight. The Federal, Provincial & all Hospital administration bureaucratic delays have been causing a lot of the frustration. Personally I think that it’s going to take a real big hammer to fix it and I sure haven’t seen one to do it.
No ‘hammer’ required just a free market capitalism. You can keep a parallel publicly funded system to throw cash at, the key is that the private one must be absolutely laissez-faire.
Jezzus, you actually made sense.
Given that the scandal is about emergency room wait times, why is more than half the article about his substance abuse issues? He was only 39 years old and he’d been clean and sober for six years; it’s irrelevant to the reason for his death. What good is ‘free’ health care if you can’t access it?
Plausible denial that a certain “safe and effective” treatment may have been the cause of his death.
Same thing happened to a buddy of mine.
In Houston Texas.
“When you walk into a Kanadian hospital you are viewed as a cost not a customer.”
Ralph Klein
That is correct
When you enter a Canadian hospital your are consuming resources
When you enter a US hospital you are feeding the resource.
Neither are perfect….but my money is on the US model
Funny thing is … Obamakkare was sold on the notion that all the poor were using Hospital ER’s as Primary Care facilities. Therefore, we needed to destroy our perfectly adequate Private Health Care system, and FORCE people onto FULL SERVICE (yes, that’s a JOKE) Socialized Medicine. So we can be as good as Canada (sic). Now people pay wayyyyyy more than previously and get marginal care.
Every “fact” used to sell Obamakkare was a communist LIE. Every single thing.
The Beauty of Socialized Medicine.
The beauty of socialized anything. There, fixed it for you.
