Deep Impact

John PodhoretzFascinating stuff going on. Politics editor at WSJ laid off today. Wash post national editor “removed” today. Wash bureau chief at NYT replaced a few days ago. MSNBC selloff. Tectonic plates are shifting.

@DylanByersThe audience exodus from CNN and especially MSNBC since the election is staggering.

The money quote is the 2nd paragraph from the article: “It’s not easy these days to find somebody described as a historian who isn’t just a Democrat activist who happens to have once flipped through The Oxford Encyclopedia of World History while sitting on the toilet in a UC Berkeley dorm bathroom 35 years ago.”

  2. They went looking for liars, they found them, they hired them, they promoted them, and they backed them up. And now they’re firing them. As if this all happened while their backs were turned and they had nothing to do with it.

    1. And because of this, these “assets” are worth practically nothing at all. This would seem to be why Comcast etc. are cleaning the rubbish off the books prior to disposal. Time for a fire sale.

  3. “How much does it cost?”

That’s funny. It’s worth practically nothing given its collapse in ratings, viewership and advertising. It will be interesting to see how much long term debt Comcast decides to burden MSNBC with. It has no assests in terms of signed contracts on talent that either Comcast or any new owner will retain. Rachel Madcow and her multi-million contract will be one of the first things over the side, let alone dozens of others equally expensive.

      1. The poor dear has to try to get by on her new, lower salary of $25 million per year. Tough times, people. Tough times.

      2. Thanks for that, Jamie. It’s hardly enough. All too likely to go to zero over the next few months given the way MSNBC is circling the bowl.

  4. ‘Musk Social’ News Broadcast Corporation – MSNBC!

It’s almost unimaginable that one could tune in CNN or MSNBC one day and find news along with rational adult opinions.

The last time I watched CNN Lou Dobbs was saying something interesting or informative, I think he was the last adult in the room there, maybe fifteen or twenty years ago?
