Cory Morgan– The streets of Calgary are in total gridlock. No plows to be seen. No gravel at intersections. No salt on hills. Buses without winter tires jackknifed everywhere. The City of Calgary road services apparently didn’t realize it can snow in mid November.
Making progress on those bike lanes though…

Gonedyke spent all the salting and plowing money on Trans story time & rainbow crosswalks 🙁
She truly is the most clueless mayor ever and the city snow clearing department only hires people with the IQ of a turnip!! Note it isn’t the plow operators fault … they need to be dispatched and the nitwits in charge of that are STOOPID with two “O’s”
There is no snow clearing “department” in Calgary.
It’s called a chinook, suffer until.
It’s funny she didn’t say something inspiring like, this never happened on treaty land before, so why would we budget for it.
I would prefer salt be abolished. It does nothing to increase safety. It rusts the hell out of vehicles no matter how often you wash. I am also surprised all the salt running off the road and into the Bow hasn’t fooled the Rainbow Trout into turning into sea-run Steelhead.
My aluminum bodied acura doesn’t mind the salt.
The dimwits in BC tried no salt and the roads were deadly. After killing some folks the salt returned.
Salt is essential where people are not used to driving on washboard ice for 5 months a year.
Well to be honest though, late last night “Environment” Canada was predicting “flurries” through the night. Only to wake up this morning and see that “Environment” Canada had a snow fall warning. What a bunch of useless twits.
Environment Canada usually gets yesterdays weather wrong!!
I think the weathernetwork has a better track record and they had a lot of snow forecast by last night.
I recall seeing a comment a few years ago that the “skill” of Environment Canada predicting the weather increased by 200% when they installed a west facing window in their office. They are absolutely USELESS.
If only it was “Environment Canada.” It is now the ECCC – “Environment and Climate Change Canada.” I guess this way they can now blame everything, including their miscalculations, on climate change.
Correction: it must be referred to as “Environment and Climate Change Canada”. Maybe the inaction has something to do with us being more Woke than we used to be.
No, Environment and Tossing Virgins Into Volcanoes Canada is more accurate.
Bill Matheson said it was impossible to predict weather in Southern Alberta. Being close to four continental divides is one reason (Continental, Mississippi, Saskatchewan and Athabasca).
Bill Matheson? Yer dating yerself there, Mike… 😉
At least they have clean water.
For now.
Global warming will take care of that soon enough when it turns southern Alberta into a tropical paradise. Then all the hosers will be griping about the surge in mosquito-borne diseases and the lack of outdoor hockey rinks.
Living in the city is wholly unimportant to the council.
Of course number one is the absolute constant from the beginning of time, so called ‘Climate change’.
Everything else is peripheral nothingness.
Remember the water pipe break.
The city charges big money for the water consumption, they include the maintenance in the price. The problem is that the idiots of the council are spending that money on something completely different.
Now they want to and will increase water rates to account for maintenance.
Isn’t that genius? The population will never know how the council fleeces them with their economic gymnastics.
It is starting to become evident. The response might be vicious.
There’s a reason the majority of City workers live in Airdrie.
Based on Ventusky road cams, it doesn’t look like much depth. Every year the first few snowfalls brings total panic to the average motorist.
It is relatively deep…..about 5 inches or so, but it is very heavy and wet and slippery. And the temperature is going to create a lot of ice from the snow that melts.
In most of Canada, November is a winter month.
School children could have predicted this.
Southern Alberta is where you freeze tour butt one Christmas Day, then play basketball in the driveway in shorts and tee-shirts the next.

This is what happens when most of your city workers and decision-maker level management haven’t lived in Canada, a Nordic country or Russia most/all of their lives. WTF does a guy from Pakistan or the Philippines or southern China know about snow in November?(or even snow)
Calgary, its a Fine city. Park here get a fine, don’t shovel your walk in time? Get a fine! Unregistered cat? That’s a fine. Make to much noise? Fine! Kids have a lemonade stand? Boy that fine. Squeel your tire on a rainbow cross walk? Jail and a fine. A fine road policy from an NDP City Council that hates cars. `
They spent their money on other things and have to ration road care. My city is the same and it’s further north.
Every year they have snow removal cost overruns and the advt surprised. Every year the service is later and the roads that are plotted are reduced.
It’s a systematic problem through all government services.
This is why political parties are needed at the municipal level. Calgary’s last two mayors have been communists, with the former being a faggot, and both of them were moronic and incompetent lying NDPers (though I repeat myself) along with most of the coucillors.
All pretend to be conservative until after the election.
If Calgarians could identify the ultra far-left extremists of the NDP right out of the gate, they’d never win again.
Bring back Darr Maqbool, he was pretty accurate!
Here’s a map of the city streets, you can see all the snow plows and their associated names, like Snobegone Kenobi and Sled Zepplin..
https://maps.calgary.ca/roadconditions/
Back in the old days, Farmers and outdoor sportsmen, natives, etc. could see the changes in the weather coming and prepared accordingly. For instance, there was a sun dog on Saturday, grandma always said that means a change in the weather, and here we are..
I have a freind in the other side of the mountains, I talk to each day, what he tells me they got, is usu 24 hrs away from what we get..
We don’t have to be smart or careful anymore. We’re Canadian and the Government will look after us.
Dar did weather in Thunder Bay for a few years. Entertaining delivery. Snowmoble enthusiast.
Good old Dar! I used to joke that half of Calgary thought that Allie MacBeal was Dar Maqbool’s daughter.
And a fine if you push your snow out onto the street.
City moves toward faster snow clearing, fines for improper shovelling
Just point your snowblower output toward your neighbor’s yard.
Yup, if you collect your rainwater instead of letting it drain off thru the infrastructure, that’s a paddlin’, but if you put the hard moisture back out into the infrastructure, that’s a paddlin’, too!
No way to win!
Snowblower, better hope it’s an electric one and you have enough power and batteries and a yard big enough to store it all.. Then use the melt water in the summer to irritate with.. Gee, sounds like I should be getting paid to do the cities jobs, instead of paying taxes!!
What about the snow on your car, parked on the snow covered street?
Magical conservatives in Alberta.
LOL!
The city council is packed with Regressives… so is administration.
Meanwhile, here in Methbridge, we have not had a drop of precipitation, but the snowplows are driving around. Blades out front, full of sand, yellow warning lights going. And not a single drop of precipitation
I was out riding my bike in Fish Creek Park in SE Calgary yesterday and looked west to the mountains, when I got home I told my wife we were going to have weather event (snow). I didn’t even look at a forecast. I’m not surprised the city didn’t prepare… Regressives all.
40cm by next Monday. I guess praying for a climate change (we used to call them chinooks) isn’t a great show removal strategy.
But, by gum, it’s the only one we’ve got and while it hasn’t worked in 75 years but we’ll keep digging out the bike lanes and park paths and praying for 50,000 new south Asian drivers to figure it out!
Well Calgary that is what happens when you let voting machines count the ballots.
