He Huffs, He Puffs…

Blacklock’s- “Stay Out,” Singh Tells Gov’t

“There should be no government intervention,” Singh said in a statement. New Democrats were “in full solidary” with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, he said.

The Union’s 55,000 members launched strike action Friday. Past job actions involved rotating 48-hour strikes at various mail distribution centres.

Parliament earlier legislated an end to postal disputes in 1997, 2011 and 2018. The last back-to-work bill ended 35 days of rotating strikes under threat of $100,000-a day fines.

  1. CUPW, soon to become the highest paid taxpayer funded junk mail delivery service in the universe.

    1. Heh. If the jag had balls and brains it would be turdo licking his arse.

      Who knows, maybe it is.

  2. They are not being paid while on strike.
Most people will not be affected by the strike.
After about 3 months, Canada Post will be completely irrelevant as people fully switch to other services.

Oh no! I fully support the NDP.

    1. I believe CUPW may have a strike fund. Members would be paid a pittance, but paid nevertheless. In any event, I as well fully support this move to irrelevancy.

      1. I wonder how many hours they have to picket in order to get their $200 per week.

I won’t miss having to throw out 20 to 30 flyers per week in order to get my 1 to 2 pieces of mail that get delivered with it.

    2. According to CUPW website, striking workers are paid $200 per week.
These guys are shooting them selves in the foot, private industry is going to take over. They are irrelevant and don’t seem to know it.
I had a couple of relatives who were postal workers, so I wasn’t too antagonistic toward them, everybody’s got to earn a living, but when one of them told me the Union sponsored a school in Cuba, I’ve had no use for that Union since.
I get two or three pieces of real mail each month, and about 100 pieces of junk mail.
They have about 55,0000 postal workers right now,if they keep up like this they may find they have half that many in a couple of years.

  3. Canada Post basically only delivers flyers and letters from the government and utilities.

The “job” is simple and like everything involving public sector unions massively overpays for a job that couldn’t be stretched into a 40 hour work week.

  4. Considering Canada Post enjoys a protected monopoly on mail services in Canada (not parcel delivery, but mail delivery, important distinction), I think it would be hilarious if there was some sort of class-action against CP and the CUPW over this.

    1. Hey,with all the “Black Friday” special offers these days, CP/Junk Mail is practically an essential service!
We’ve black Friday sales for the last month, when will the pre-boxing day sales start?

  5. I always find it intriguing that Big Union is only in favour of the law of supply and demand when it benefits them. Shortage of workers? Yes, wages must go up! Shortage of work? No no no, wages still must go up!

  6. “There should be no government intervention,” Singh said in a statement. Canada Post IS government intervention – at its worst. They could be replaced by the free market is a mater of days.

  7. We need a right-to-work law in Canada, making membership in unions optional. Half the states in the US have right-to-work. You know, the ones where all the jobs are.

  8. My God. 55,000 useless overpaid underworked Canada-hating dinosaur ingrates of a bygone era all sucking as hard as they can on the taxpayers limited wallet. Fire them all and then outlaw trade unions completely.

  9. USPS/CP is better than DHL/UPS/Fedex, in terms of costs and in terms of quality of service.
You clowns who say otherwise have obviously never really tested the market.
The state should crack right down on CP.

    1. Excuse me, we do know.

I never buy anything that has Canada Post as the courier, and still like snail mail.

Right-to-work laws should be a go.

      1. Only Canada Post will deliver firearms in Canada. Its the only useful thing they do. No courier will, likely owing to regulations. It seems crazy – the government, that despises private ownership of guns, is the only carrier in the country that ships them (but not ammo!). Why is that?

    2. I will always push for USPS/CP when ordering from the USA. The UPS/Fedex/DHS companies all work in as much additional cost (for no benefit) in any delivery I have received from the states. I recall a book (vehicle workshop manual) I ordered where UPS wanted an additional 50% of its cost to deliver it to me…with charges like “transfer charge between couriers to take it into and out of customs”. I will never support their international deliveries…while “in Canada” deliveries do make sense.

  10. How would I ever know there is a strike? I get about 2 or 3 letters a month. Just encourage alternative delivery services. I am sure Amazon could have a viable system up in a week. Maybe they have to charge $3 or so for a letter. Then offer the post office workers only a 50% wage cut. Snail mail is dead. Finish it off mercilessly.

  11. Canada post NEVER delivers packages to my home – only pick-it-up yourself cards. They do not even try!!!! So no increases and fire a lot of them, as they do not do their jobs.

    Yes, no pensions. Privatize!!!

  12. The Ontario government liquor stores went on strike in July. After a coupla weeks when the dust settled and the unionistas returned to work they found out they weren’t nearly as essential as they thought. Plus the government opened up a good chunk of the market to the private sector.

  13. Why do we have two tier postal service? I haven’t had personal post service in almost 40 years. Super mailboxes are everywhere except in older established areas. Why do these areas get personal delivery? Get rid of this and you can cut thousands of jobs. The company has lost billions of dollars over the last few years. This can’t continue. Why am I subsidizing a dying monopoly?

    1. Harper was slowly killing off home delivery. Turdeau made an it election promise to keep existing home delivery. He’s such an asshole.

      1. Oh no, the posties are essential, checking in on the elderly, shut-ins, etc. Is so and so dead yet?
A well known online moto parts store uses CP for free delivery. I’ve had tires arrive in 4 days! Left on the deck.
All for $748M in the hole. Kinda like ViaRail.

  14. I have my new A&W coupons which are good to 28 December so I really don’t have a horse in this race.

*I think there are some gov’t departments which only accept paper mailed to them, so exemptions? who knows? it may be an actual problem for upwards to 5000 people in Canada.

If at some point in the next few years Canada Post shuts down, my daughter mentioned to me today how awkward it may be to write on my next resume, “I put letters in slots for 24 years and don’t really know how to do anything else but pace my walk to last a basic 7.5 hours shift” …

Near useless for any other task at hand though…

    1. I have my new A&W coupons which are good to 28 December so I really don’t have a horse in this race.

      Okay, I LOLed.

  15. The statements from the union reps attempt to sound as if they represent skilled, dedicated workers.
My 10 yr old grandkid can read addresses, and has an acceptable work ethic.
Remember when Reagan simply fired the Air Traffic controllers in the states and replaced them with the military?
We could fire almost all the postal workers and replace them with most anyone off the street….who would happily work for slightly less than the current contract.
The MSM, with all their breathless, “evenhanded” coverage, has yet to mention what John Q Public thinks of the 24% demanded, or of the snide refusal of the 11% offered. That’s a lot of taxpayer subsidies for being able to read addresses.

  16. I would have more compassion for them if they could actually deliver our mail to our house every time. Had to go paperless on everything that I could.

Have been missed by number, street, and neighbourhood…Well, at least they make up for it by delivering others mail to us……….

  17. Singh knows exactly what he is doing.

All this is going to do is to increase the demand for Amazon and UPS deliveries the two companies infamous for bringing in Sikh and other temporary foreign workers because of a fake shortage of delivery drivers. Once they are in the country because the Liberals got rid of recording who leaves the country, they will never go.

If Singh and his fellow terrorists can’t cut out a piece of India for their own he will create his own Khalistan out of part of Canada.
