  1. sooooooooo where the FCUK is it in the pension act they can use the money for this? hmmm? aaaaaaand liberal contractors get the work. AHA!!!! there it is again !!!

    1. Wasn’t it just about a week ago that there was a post regarding Canada’s underused office space and that some government office buildings were to be sold?

Is there some sort of law preventing the CPP from moving into a larger, already paid for government-owned property?

      1. But then it wouldn’t have the prestige of being in downtown toronto…

Of course, they could just stay in the building they are in now and not pay $400 million over a decade to rent somewhere else.

      2. So, I have to ask…why isn’t Pierre Marcel Poilievre POUNCING on this and making the exact point you just made?

        1. The Trudeau Liberal violations of the Canadian citizenry are myriad. There are not enough hours in the day, days in the week etc to “pounce on” them all.

  2. ““I’d love for them to explain to the seniors who are barely getting by, or the small business owners who are paying higher payroll taxes, or the workers who see their paycheques shrinking, why their pension fund needs an expensive, shiny office building,” said Franco Terrazzano, federal director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation,” says the article.

That there. I want to know why, and I want to know why it needs “a 14,000-square-foot fitness centre, “hotel-inspired” concierge services and connected food court with a Michelin-featured bistro.”

Just get to work like the rest of Canadians, CPP folks, and use your own paychecks to cover your lavish lifestyles.

I wish MPs had to survive on their CPP/OAS and savings like the rest of us. Things surely would change.

    1. Every one of those should be a taxable benefit, but that doesn’t seem to apply to government workers.

  3. Office space was sitting empty across the country, the most recent story was about Calgary maybe?, but now our betters in government need more hundreds of millions of our dollars to build new office space?

    1. Oops! Didn’t see your post, Philanthropist, but I had much the same thought.

How about they cut the projected cost to cover new, nicer curtains for one of the existing buildings?

  4. Sure am glad I paid the max from day one. If I had not I would have about two million dollars to draw from now. What a government screwup. Do I need a tag?

  5. So expenses have grown roughly four times the rate of investments and this new expense is needed to “attract talent”. Well here’s a suggestion: put all the investments into an index fund; slash the staff and forget about “the talent.” — they rarely if ever outperform the overall market anyway.

    1. I am doing very well with my investment adviser – shout out to TD Investments. I can forward his name to CPP if it would help.

  6. No surprise the gov’t is spending, sorry, wasting more of our money. It’s the only thing they excel at. I’m also guessing $100M or so of those funds will find their way into Turd’s bank account.

  7. Also spending your money, and using it against you:

    govt.exe is corrupt
    @govt_corrupt
“The RCMP has done more to oppress and persecute Canadians than they ever have at holding our politicians to account.

They planted evidence and trampled us during the Freedom Convy, intimidated us at the Carbon Tax protest.

They broke into our homes and stole our guns in High River and were responsible for the death of 22 Canadians in Nova Scotia. The list goes on.

Yet no arrests made against TRAITORS in govt. They don’t work for us. They work to protect the Crown. They’re a terrorist organization.”

  8. It’s the CPP-tax. Arrange your affairs to pay the least tax possible.
First $3500 of employment income has no CPP-tax.
After that, decide whether to pay yourself dividends or salary given CPP-tax is 11.9% on next $60,000+ of salary.

If you’re working for the man, you’ll just have to pay for the palace.

  9. These arse-eaters need to be pilloried.
In Ottawa – where all the snivel servants don’t go to work, and don’t work when they’re home – there’s more empty space downtown than lies in the PMO.
You could practice shooting cannons down the disgrace that is the Sparks Street pedestrian mall.
I guess they have to be in Toronto where its normal to jerk each other off at the bar on a Friday afternoon.

  10. Sigh, they live like Kings on our dime. Never mind most of the offices we the people rent are vacant yet we are paying the rent.

  11. I’ll be generous. Why would the CPP investment arm need even 100 employees considering they can’t crack the stock market index on returns? If they bought a mix of shares equal to the stock market balance they would make better returns.

  12. If ever a case for WORKING FROM HOME.. This is it.. What do you do every Monday morning?.. Look at some numbers on a screen?.. Do some pushups and walk the dog?..

Nice work if you can get it.. Babysitting other peoples money..
