  1. Given that the Prussian Model of Education that engages in the latest fads isn’t actually in the business of “education” but in providing compliant government drones, why should anyone expect a different result?

  2. Is this because Minnesota’s children are now of Somali descent? Somalia has one of the lowest national average IQs in the word. They are significantly dumber than the average human. If that’s what they have to work with, they’re only going to get so far.

    1. Winter camping in Arizona sure beats winter camping in Alaska!
      Just sayin’
As far as the Minnesota article, may the good Lord help us. I have grandchildren and it seems I must be around for a while until the battle against this Bull Shit has been won.

      1. I do my Winter camping in Florida, CRB.

Ironically, our unit came with an Arctic package. We were in below freezing weather exactly once, and that was about -2C.

We are freezing our buns off here in Florida with temps in the low 60s(F). What? I can’t get any sympathy from this crowd? ;o)

Happy New Year everyone. Unfortunately, I think it will be an interesting year, as in Chinese curse ‘interesting’.

  3. I rode out the front end of the Edmonton tornado in my truck camper. Switched to the cab rather quickly. It got planted down to the frame

  4. Show of hands….

How many readers here got punished by their parents in some capacity if you weren’t achieving your potential at school when you were younger?

Things like being grounded, unable to leave the house until certain academic thresholds were met, no television, no meeting up with friends….that sort of thing? I got it a little more than most (since both of my parents were teachers). My dad would have read that article, checked my scores, and anything less than well above average would have resulted in certain liberties being taken away until he was satisfied I was performing at the appropriate level. Oh, and my parents didn’t subscribe to the “time out” sort of punishment, if you get my drift.

I see the green haired, drama queen, so-called educators that pass for teachers these days and it’s depressing. The fact that they got past Human Resources into a position suggests that those doing the hiring are just as unqualified as those they are hiring. And, while it’s an obstacle, it’s no excuse for complete capitulation. Where I went to school, parents would have been standing outside the Principal’s house demanding answers. They would have packed the school board meetings demanding the termination of those teachers directly associated with the poor performance.

Which brings up the obvious conclusion. Not everyone should be a parent.

  5. Retired from the Army, Major, 23 years in, at age 50. Had an education degree and teaching certification. Local school boards were SCREAMING for new male teachers, because they wanted male role models for the kids. They even advertised it that way. Figured I’d apply, after all, former senior Officer, should be a role model, right?
Nope! They hired a bunch of 22-23 Year old women, fresh out of university, no real world experience, Why? Because their moms and/or dads were teachers.

    1. And there will be another generation of Valley- girl speakers, aka up-speakers, both male and female. New Wokers.

  6. Well … since Chat GPT and all the myriad of AI bots can do their homework … why should children bother learning anything? Such a hassle. Now … all the little brats can focus on their “art”. They’ll all be such creative little geniuses … Right?

We should have learned already by the example of music. When the “hassle” of spending 10,000 hours learning your instrument and perfecting your craft gave way to Pro Tools and a myriad of synthetic music programs … it didn’t improve music … it rendered it banal and lifeless.

Now … we’re doing that to human scholarship?? What could possibly go wrong?

  7. Won’t be doing any winter camping but… With retirement pending have decided that my adventure bike and I are going to see as much of the West as possible. Planning trips from Alaska down the B.C. coast and all through interior. All of Central and north AB. Some of Sask’s northern half. Will be doing 2-5 day trips, tenting along the way. Get it in before age takes the ability.

  8. The greatest social injustice is raising children who are poorly educated. The ideological capture of the education systems is a tragedy.
