I haven’t read Rick McGinnis for along time (in Damian Penny’s blog as I recall). I always enjoyed his writing and I’m not disappointed here. Too bad about the film, I was hoping for something better.
I saw a trailer and thought, “Hey, that looks cool.”
I was expecting an entertaining spectacle and not historical accuracy. From the reviews I’m reading, my expectations should be met.
My biggest complaint about Hollywood is that they have rarely come up with an original script. “Let’s re-re-remake some old classic except change the lead to a black female and make her a lesbian.”
On the plus side, at least (I think) they didn’t make Napoleon a black female lesbian. I’m walking out and demanding my money back if they did.
Ehhh… As a member in good standing of the American Procrastinators Society, I think instead I’ll attend one of their meetings… if they haven’t postponed it… again.
If I wanted a history lesson, I’d read a book. I only expect Hollywood to entertain.
I don’t expect much out of Hollywood, no matter who is in it or directed it save for Clint Eastwood.
I went and saw this sh*tshow. Save your money and ESPECIALLY your time as this dungheap is nearly 3 hours long.
Ridley Scott sucks. All his recent stuff is crap. He hasn’t made a good movie since Gladiator. You sit through interminable passive/aggressive arguments between Bonaparte and Josephine yet he glosses over the Russian campaign in about 3.5 minutes. The action scenes are sluggish and boring.
Joaquin Phoenix does an excellent job as Napoleon. The blonde british actress playing Josephine likewise does a decent job but in the end they are both unlikeable characters so in the end.. who f*ing cares.
I’d have been better off re-watching the Sharpe series with Sean Bean.
I honestly want my money back.
