I am neither agreeing nor disagreeing with Mearsheimer here. Just putting this up for wider context.

He knows his history but his conclusions re: Israel and the PLO/Hamas are despicable.
There is already a Palestinian state, it’s called Jordan. (And for Gaza there is Egypt.)
The so called Palestinian refugees could have been fully integrated into Jordan and Egypt since 1950 or so.
Except when King Hussein of Jordan took in the Palestinian Fedayeen after he lost Jerusalem and the West Bank of the Jordan River in 1967, they tried to turn Jordan into a battleground first against Israel. By 1970, Palestinians had tried to assassinate Hussein twice and Defense Minister Hafez Assad of Syria sent Syrian troops into Jordan to help Palestinian Fedayeen overthrow King Hussein.
The Jordanian Army was sent in to destroy the Fedayeen and the Syrian Army in Jordan. Read up about Black September 1970. By the end, the Syrian Army was sent packing back to Syria where DM Assad shot his way to the top in Syria before he got shot himself for his embarrassing failed attack on Jordan.
The 2,000 remaining/surviving Palestinian Fedayeen were exiled to Lebanon in 1971. These peaceful Palestinians then started the Lebanese Civil War in 1975, and devastated “The Paris of the Middle East.” The civil war is still going on fifty years later, and Lebanon today is a war torn shithole run by Iran, Syria, and Russia using Hezbollah and their Shia Lebanese allies.
Ask the Kuwaitis about Palestinians and the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait? Why do you think the Arabs are using so many Indian and Pakistani guest workers instead?
King Abdullah of Jordan and his Father before him want nothing to do with the Palestinian cause. He doesn’t even want the West Bank back anymore. He has a peaceful Kingdom and wants to keep it that way.
The Egyptians want even less to do with the Gazan people. Their border with Gaza is even more secure than the Israeli’s border with Gaza.
This Saudi sounds like he reads the same history books as I do.

True.
They do not support integration into another ME country, nor does any ME country want anything to do with the Palestinians. They are trouble and the Arabs know it. They have rejected every peace proposal. Every opportunity to have their own state. They will never agree to a two state solution. It’s all or nothing, from the river to the sea. Their mission is the elimination of Israel and the annihilation of the Jew. Nothing else will satiate their hatred.
Palestinians overwhelmingly support Hamas and it’s tactics. Most ME countries give Hamas tacit support. Perhaps not openly but privately. So, there you have it. Nine Million Israelis surrounded by 300 million Arabs bent on the destruction of Israel.
They are tools of the Islamic jihad. Another reason no one will take them. The other Muslim states want them right where they are doing exactly what they do. Hamas, on Iran’s behalf, would be happy if Israel killed every one of them. Double dog dare you!
And now ANTIFA … who are in the streets with black keffiyehs covering their faces … are America’s Hamas … waving “Palestinian” flags at The Chabad House.
Democrat Storm Troopers.

I think I can summarize John Mearsheimer:
It’s the Jews fault that Hamas has not moderated its stance. Everyone knows rational people can come to an understanding. Even Hamas.
And has Israel (Israel is not Jewish BTW) moderated its stance? All I hear is Israel breathing fire and brimstone as it attempts to commit genocide as it seeks to claim parts of Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Syria and Iran. Israel is Zionist not Jewish and thinks it is entitled to land that it has never had before.
Just STFU. You make no sense with your ramblings.
“And has Israel moderated its stance?”
Would you?
Because I wouldn’t. Did the Americans “moderate their stance” when they bombed the f- out of Afghanistan and Iran after 9-11? No, they very much did not.
And about the genocide thing, the Israelis really suck at it. They call first to make sure the apartments are empty before they bomb.
Ask yourself why the Israeli army isn’t dumping mustard gas down those tunnels. Sure would be cheaper and easier to just fumigate, don’t you think? But they’re not.
Actually the Israelis are very good at it and as proof I offer the nonsense I see from so many silly posters on these threads. Blaming everything from Islam to 10 year old terrorists. Maybe if you spend some time listening to some Orthodox Jewish Rabbis you would have a much better understanding that Israel is not a God created nation. It is a dream of evangelical Christians who are hoping for the end of the world and some very racist people who claim to be Jewish. The Prime Minister of Israel who says he speaks for all Jews in the world isn’t an observant Jew. He is completely secular and what’s more is completely corrupt. Everyone is counting the days until he and his wife go to jail. I support Jews where ever they may live just as I support anyone’s right to live their lives in peace and love. I do not support Zionism which is very hard to say is not Nazism the way they treat the Palestinians. The professor is right. Israel needs to become a democracy for all who live in the region One vote per person.
no thanks
would rather dump the dishwasher and vacuum
There is a one-state solution. Israel takes full control of all lands it captured in 1967: Gaza, West Bank, Golan Heights.
They become Israel as Israel won them.
Eliminate all leaders of Hezbollah and Hamas and whatever other terrorist group leaders are in the area.
It’s time to purge the world of these vermin. That means the US, Canada, Europe and every other democracy chip in. A multi-national Seal Team if you will.
I listened for about 30 seconds. No thanks. What “occupation”?
” listened for about 30 seconds. No thanks. What “occupation”?”
Thanks, Thomas. Now I don’t have to waste any time watching it.
Oddly, no one ever asks how Indonesia became the largest Muslim nation or why it has no history prior to the Muslim occupation. The holocaust on the Indian sub continent makes the Nazi one look tiny by comparison but unlike the Buddhists in Indonesia, the Hindus were a warrior race and capable of fighting back and were never totally conquered.
Why was this video even posted here?
Why isn’t there a more balanced discussion here? Many many smart informed people including 15,000 Jewish rabbis disagree with Israel and even doubt the legitimacy of the state of Israel from a Jewish perspective. Being a Jew is a matter of observing a certain religion and not about ethnicity or race or statehood.
“15,000 Jewish rabbis disagree with Israel and even doubt the legitimacy of the state of Israel from a Jewish perspective.”
Oy gevult…Rabbis disagreeing ?
“Why isn’t there a more balanced discussion here?”
Because Shani Louk, that’s why. Which side of that do you want to be on, Joey baby?
To aid in articulating perspectives on current affairs in the Holy land.
The word ‘occupation’ has become hip again.
The ‘occupation’ of France et al in 1940 was bad, the ‘occupation’ of Germany 5 years later was good.
The simple truth is a 3 state solution, much like India way back when.
Then the crazies in Gaza can be shucked by the region, and the land now plagued by fire ants turned into the tourist/pilgrim Mecca of the Mediterranean.
To make all your zionazi heads explode!
We might get a one state solution sooner than we think. All the signals coming out of Washington say that the morally and ethically bankrupt Biden administration would not intervene if the muzzies all ganged up and had a go at wiping Israel off the map.
Obama runs Biden and has been doing his best to make Iran the strongest nation in the area. Being a Muslim himself, you can guess how he feels about Israel.
Until Hamas fighters wear a uniform to distinguish themselves from civilians, they are terrorists, and the rules of war do not apply.
A point that really needs more repeating.
“A point that really needs more repeating.”
It really does. They are not ‘fighters’ or ‘resistance’ or ‘guerillas’…they are TERRORISTS, pure and simple.
The news media disgusts me with their refusal to identify them as such in articles.
I persisted to halfway because Lex is usually a very good interviewer who lets his guests reveal themselves, both their knowledge and their ignorance. But Mearsheimer is a very slippery eel who slithers around and just keeps repeating his mantra of two-state solution, “if only we can convince Israel!”, when Hamas has only one state in mind – “but we can convince them eventually”, all the while throwing out loaded words like occupation. Calling Oct 7 a “disaster” is rather telling – so John, it was like a natural event, a hurricane perhaps, or a flood, oh, I got it, like an eruption, an unavoidable consequence of built-up pressure. Poor Lex doesn’t stop him to examine his use of the term. Poor me, I’m just not sophisticated enough to excuse planned, pre-meditated gleeful face-to-face murder of women, children, old people.
so John, it was like a natural event, a hurricane perhaps, or a flood, oh, I got it, like an eruption, an unavoidable consequence of built-up pressure.
Excellent point.
Mearsheimer has the progressive attitude that the underdog (in any conflict) has no agency, no choices, and everything they do is a deterministic unavoidability. [just like the arg that the poor looters were stealing flat screen TVs “just to survive another day”] Thus, the prog argues it is incumbent on the powerful (Israel) to make all the concessions… and that there is “no other way” to stop the volcano god from erupting.
Mearsheimer’s statement that Hamas will “come around” is truly surreal. And that really is unforgivable, considering that ISIS was utterly wiped out in Iraq-Syria.
Mearsheimer’s propagandising against Ukraine and the West has been very successful on the right but for the most part he’s going to struggle to make them swallow his vomit against Israel. For the most part . . .
