Ban All The Things!

We must eliminate plastic food wrap because hygiene is racist.

Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault’s department yesterday gave grocers until month’s end to comment on proposed curbs on single-use plastics like meat wrapping and fruit bags. A current ban on plastic six-pack rings and other goods will cost consumers $205 million, by official estimate: “There is a need to do business differently.”

  1. I guess the acres refrigerated displays of hygienically and appetizingly wrapped steaks and chops at the grocery store are just going to go away?

Maybe I will just buy it all at the meat counter, where they instead wrap my steak in four square feet of plastic lined butcher paper? And the pork chops in another four square feet of plastic lined butcher paper too? And the two pounds of ground beef in, well you get the picture. Unless, of course I am shopping early in the morning or later in the evening and the meat counter is closed. Maybe I will just get a cup of bugs instead?

    1. Lol. You think you’ll still be able to buy a steak or pork chop?
The ultimate plan is to replace all that beautiful meat with simulated meat textured products.

  2. Every time I read these stories I have an urge to burn tires.

I reuse as much as I can. I recycle nothing.

  3. oh lawd hea’ mah plee. ‘ow long be it Heabenly Fadder we’se flock be set upon by dis madness?

  4. I once joked about being required to wash and reuse Saran[TM] wrap. I gotta stop giving them ideas…

  5. I’ve been commenting to my friends and family for a couple of years, about the fact that we can’t have single use grocery bags, but nearly everything, not just food comes in single use plastic when we buy it.

Darn, I didn’t know the government was listening 🙁

Now I’m wondering if we’ll soon need to stat reusing garbage bags and diapers!

  6. Here’s my comment.
    Hey Guilbeault, GFY!
Metro, Loblaw and Sobey’s, feel free to use.

  7. Like covid, the net zero playbook is to focus only on the one narrative and ignore any and all unintended consequences. Don’t think about or allow any questions about food hygiene or increase in food costs. Only a single minded obsession with the one issue is allowed.

During the covid response that single minded obsession without even considering consequences got us record mental health problems, a supply chain in shambles, massively increases debt/deficits, crazy inflation, a health care system on the brink of collapse. And that’s not a complete list.

What economic disasters and personal tragedies will the obsession with net zero cause society? I’d guess the cost to the economy and individuals will be exponentially higher.

  8. Fast forward 30 years and North American meat departments have transformed into wet markets from hell. Sellers perched on stools, shooing flies away with rolled up newspapers in between puffs on a cigarette as you haggle over the price for a bucket of chicken guts because quite frankly you’ve had your fill of salted Crickets.

I’ve never seen anyone so intent on making our lives miserable quite like these sadistic Liberal/NDP chuckleheads.
If by chance one crawls out from underneath their rock for a peek…be sure to thank them like this guy.

    Well done good sir.

  9. “There is a need to do business differently.”

    Absolutely.

Let’s start that by voting out the current Federal government.

  10. This is why validating this climate change non sense in any fashion whatsoever – and not actively working to expose it for the fraud it is, is the foundational problem.

“Climate Change” is simply carte blanche to implement any policy their sweet little totalitarian WEF hearts desire.
Everything has a carbon footprint – everything – as such nothing is outside their reach.

And they are just getting started.

  11. Why ban meat when you can just make it all a big hassle.. Butcher shop, wrapped in wax paper?.. Its 1955 again..
On the bright side they might have to cut back on the water they soak our meat in.. Raising prices even more..

Life is good living under the Minister of the environment and Climate Change.. Such power from a unelected official.. IMO the open mandate to save the world needs proper oversight..

    1. “the Minister of the environment and Climate Change.. Such power from a unelected official..”

Er, no. Guilbeault is an MP so – whether we like him or not – he is indeed an elected official.

  12. They want a comment – how is this?

Maybe instead of banning the use of hygienic plastic wrap for the average citizen, we ban the use of private jets? PM Sockmonkey has burned a lot more oil products this year than I could use in my entire lifetime.
Oh….and those limousines and entourages of SUV’s and Hummers when Steven Guilbeault or Mr Trudeau choose to go anywhere – kiss ‘m goodbye. You like to virtue signal that you ride a bike now and again? Ok, try using that when there is not a photo-op around.
All your conferences all over the planet (with the aforementioned private jets, of course).
Just use Zoom, or its equivalent.
That is what the rest of us had to do when parliament was prorogued during covid, because although the rest of us had to still meet somehow, it would have been too dangerous for you to have any budgetary oversight. You know, like the parliamentary system is supposed to have.
Or how about banning all those fleece and plastic and gore-tex clothing articles that all the enviro-weenies love to dress in for their latest outings or protests? Good-bye. Close the entire clothing section of your local Mountain Equipment Co-op, or Sportchek, or lululemon or whatever.
But let my chicken arrive home without touching the broccoli in the bag.

As others have wisely said here – selecting what to ban is not the problem. The root problem is that a silly computer model (climate change) has been adopted as fact, even though every prediction from those models has been demonstrably false. The ice caps did not disappear in 2015. The sea levels have not risen. So why are we basing our economic plans on computer models which have been consistently wrong?
Until human generated climate change has been debunked, we will have hypocritical foolishness foisted upon us by those who buy the hysteria. Governments seem to crave a need to exist, and a crisis to save us from.
But the problem is not in choosing which foolish choices to make, or what silly new bans will somehow change anything. It is that any choices based on the climate farce are wrong, as they are based on a Narrative that needs to die.

  13. sigh.
(grumble grumble, burp, fart, cough and yawn)
    smack. smack. . . . . .
    ahem.
pay attention now, this is a well timed and exceptionally good example of an original adage, that being: polllllitiSHUNS are famous for ‘solving’ one problem by CREATING THOUSANDS MORE.
come on, 250 years of american lawmaking, 160+ same thing north of 49?
WHEN ARE YA GONNA GET IT RIGHT AND LEAVE IT BE OTTAWA ??????????
