Taiwan is still technically part of the ROC, it has never declared independence.

Some 50 years ago, I listened to a broadcast from Taiwan. The station was the Voice of Free China, so the idea of invading and conquering the mainland was considered a possibility. Mind you, that wasn’t surprising as Chiang Kai-shek was still alive at the time.
