Keeping our bicycle paths safe.
Armed @TorontoPolice officers continue to harass cyclists in High Park. This person was ticketed for going 26 in a 20. All I feel is rage. #DefundThePolice. Make High Park car free: https://t.co/QRYICS8tAQ pic.twitter.com/fyLQaHIBqj

Better yet make High Park bicycle free!
Road traffic laws apply to all vehicles including bicycles ridden by non-insured, non road tax paying, traffic law breaking riders.
Bicyclists constantly break the law. They ride on sidewalks, they ride opposite to traffic, they don’t signal, they ride between lanes, they pass on the right in turning lanes, they go through stop signs and traffic lights, they speed past pedestrians. They knock people over and indignantly complain about having their way impeded. They are unlicensed, uninsured and pay no road taxes. They crash into things and burden the health care system. Tax payers have to pay for bike lanes and give up space for little used bike lanes. All you hear from bicyclists are self righteous bitching and complaining. Shall I go on?
All you hear from bicyclists are self righteous bitching and complaining.
Being a cyclist myself, I obey traffic signs and give pedestrians lots of room. No self-righteous mewling and puking from me.
What I don’t appreciate are drivers who insist on using me for target practice. It’s bad enough that I have to ride my bike along streets that are poorly maintained, but I also have to contend with motorists who insist on leaving me as little room as possible, even though they could easily change lanes before passing by me.
As for encountering cyclists when I’m driving, I’ve dealt with my share of those who are oblivious to the rest of the world. When I can, I honk my horn when I’m behind them to let them know that I’m there. Some of them actually appreciate the warning.
BA
I am confident your cycling etiquette is as thoughtful and considered as your comments.
Sadly, this is the kind of cyclist I tend to encounter in urban settings.

I’ve got no use for cyclists like that, either. I don’t think any of them fully understand that a motor vehicle can’t stop as easily as a bike, nor is it as maneuverable.
Personally, I prefer side streets, bike trails, or sidewalks designated for cyclists. Tangling with an auto that has much more mass, and correspondingly more momentum, can result in a lousy day.
I’ve dealt with my share of those who are oblivious to the rest of the world
You’re being far too kind in ascribing some … passive … obliviousness to bike riders. Not where I live. Every single one of them are Critical Massholes. The HATE cars … don’t believe anyone should be driving cars and usually travel in packs all dressed up like Court Jesters.
I usually use my bike for short trips of a few clicks for, say, buying groceries.
It’s often less of a headache for me to cycle. If I choose my route properly, I have less traffic to deal with and I have fewer lights to wait at. A lot of times, I get to my destination just as quickly by bike than if I drove either my car or my truck.
Seeing a cyclist obeying the rules makes me worried the world is ending. Yes, the vast 99+ per cent are that bad. When I see a cyclist hit by a car I have no sympathy.
Yep, agree 100%.

Hey Rider of the 2 wheeled death machine. The speed limit applies to all vehicles.
Same guys would be bitching because some car was doing 26 in a 20 zone.
*
C’mon… you don’t expect cops to go after all those
black gangbangers shooting up downtown?
That’s scary shit, bruh!
*
I call bull on that one,
Toronto cops luv, luv, luv to take down gangbanging dirtbags with extreme prejudice!!!
I’d like to see the high speed bicycle chase, Tim Horton’s cop on a bike too.
Probably the same guy that was cheering the rcmp trampling peaceful freedom protesters. Enjoy your gestapo.
Don’t give a feck about the cycle-tards but not a good use of police resources
We listen to illegal mufflers roaring up and down our street all day and often late into the evening. The RCMP have zero interest in enforcing the highway code here. Such a useless country.
It’s a law. He’s enforcing it. He’s a police officer. He carries a gun.
I’m missing the nuance of all this. And, as someone who has dealt with the slalom course of bicyclists in a number of major cities, it’s nice to see them held accountable. Some of the delivery bikers are absolute lunatics.
And the girls on tricycles need to slow it down also. Too much speed is the prob . . . as this cop waves unvaxed illegals rushing into his country.
Why does the left hate enforcing the laws they demand?
1) no training
2) no insurance
3) no safety equipment
4) no turn signals or brake lights
5) no testing for ability and knowledge
6) no licence plates
7) they swerve around puddles into traffic
8) complete disregard for lanes, signs, and laws
and now they don’t want to get tickets either. There’s a word for those people, anarchists
“There’s a word for those people, anarchists”
I think you have spelled “assholes” wrong.
So, shootings are up, speeding is down.
That makes perfect sense.
Fighting REAL crime is HARD … and dangerous (both physically and politically). Picking on queerly-dressed bicyclists … EASY.
…and just like that, Canadian conservatives love the state.
Au contraire, skull penetrated imbecile. It is the state the protects prostate masseurs. Without the state we would have a quick no bag limit solution to cyclist problem. So when seeing the same assholes that harass drivers go after the other band of assholes that harass drivers we are happy to enjoy the show.
Bicycles with speedometers?
Most bicyclists have seen these speed limit signs on bike paths but never consider that the limits may be enforced. And most bikes do not have speedometers anyway so how is a rider out for a workout to know if he/she is exceeding this magic safe speed? The guy in the picture looks to be out for a workout on a skinny tire road bike. So at speed he is hitting a dizzying 26 kph! I realize it is satisfying to imagine scofflaw holier-than-thou cyclists getting their comeuppance but ticketing for bicycle speeding is just ridiculous and a waste of expensive police resources.
We’re seeing Canadian conservatives here. The only difference between them and the left is who they want the state to brutalize.
Enforcing the Law is … brutality? Not in the civilized world I want to live in
If you can’t tell the speed you’re going with, don’t ride. There, problem solved. Your want to work your prostate in public is not a right.
20km/h? Are you serious?
That’s just stupid. Heck, school zones are 30.
Oh is the speed limit stupid? Sure. But, that’s a different question. You don’t get a preferential treatment just because your prostate itches. Besides, I am happy to borrow a page from the asshole cyclist bible, and use every proxy to make cycling as difficult and unpleasant as possible. Ideally we should be striving for a cycle free country. We need to stop the cycling addiction.
I sometimes ride. With deference and respect and usually on the paths.
Other than that I could care less for the full-timers on the road.
Nothing worse than having a bike prick pass you on the right even though they see you have your car signal on to turn right at the corner.
In Ottawa – of course – they have a two way cycle lane on a one way street, O’Connor. WTF?!
Boredom. What to do with your idle time.
It’s a problem when you’ve solved all the murders and locked up all the crooks.
20 kph. 12 mph.
I can run faster than that, and I’m over 50 with a bum leg, but hey, its da rulz!!!
I’d love to see the face of one of the aholes who likes this kinda thing when their kid comes home with a speeding ticket, that is, in the unlikely event that they’re not all helicopter parents who force their kids to wear a helmet.
Funny how all of sudden they noticed that cops are, … wait for it … drumroll …. “armed” .
I know there is very little love for cyclists here, believe me I understand your rage. I am a cyclist, and have been for 30 years. Not a fly by night bike rider, but someone who rides long distances and a lot. I am no anti car leftist loonie, or bike lane zealot… I hate both. I have been doing this long before it became a talking point for the environmental movement. I abhor the actions of people who ride bikes today, they give real bike riders a bad name. The worst thing right now is the inexperienced fools on e-bikes, they are everywhere and are going to get someone killed. One a-hole took me out last week. My friend stopped me from beating the guy as blood ran down my face. I call them pathway locusts.
As for getting a speeding ticket on my bike… I have been trying hard for years. 26 in a 20…. no. I would like a 70km/h a 50 zone. I’d frame it and hang it on the wall.
Screw them and the bike lawyer. They’ve screwed up the roads for drivers so they could put their precious unused bike lanes in. So I won’t cry any tears when bicyclists get targeted.
Exactly that. The whole promotion of “bike culture” and all its externalities is designed to make car use less comfortable and more cumbersome, because leftists hate cars. I am more than happy seeing cops and prostate masseurs turn on each other.
Also, if the cyclist has no id, take the bicycle seat from him…
Don’t get me started on bike lanes. The ones I’ve seen here in Edmonton are next to useless and are more of a menace to both cyclists and motorists.
In recent years, we have that idiot former mayor Don Iveson to thank for that. The reason many of them were put in was because he cycled to work at City Hall. As quickly as streets had to be rearranged for them, those lanes were taken out again. The taxpayers, of course, footed the bill.
Never seen anyone on the bike lanes except for downtown when it’s convenient. Even with the dedicated lanes the cyclists still ride on the sidewalks.
Bike lane traffic signals? Always ignored especially when showing red.
Trawnaw old Mississauga word meaning “treat me like papoose”.
They just released Tamara Lich.
HiHo
That is good news..!!
But under what kind of BULLSHIT conditions one wonders…Fking NAZI (Liberals), Judges anyway
What? Was The Pope gonna meet with her? After all … that IS what Christ taught … to visit the imprisoned. And since The Pope is closer to God than I … theoretically …
The Pope is closer to God
Of course, he is. He met with Prinz Dummkopf, didn’t he?
Free at Last, free at last
Over under on Constable Virani being one of the enforcers?
Could be worse, they could shoot your dog for backtalking them.
My 2 cents: Those of you who seem to hate cyclists on roads, sorry. I drive over 4000 kms a month for work and also bike about 100 kms a week. I’ve heard your arguments from suburbanites who drive LESS than 100 kms a week, so all o’ you stuff it.
As for this guy, I would proudly frame that citation. I would also contest it in traffic court and make that draconian Pig of a cop put down his donut and appear in court that day and argue how I was endangering the public. I would happily take any punishment and pay any restitution the court decreed, so long as I made it very public. I’d try to get Ezra Levant to cover the hearing.
And let me repeat to you bike haters:
Shaddup. There’s worse things to complain about on the roads of Canukistan than a couple of dudes on bicycles rolling through stop signs.Waaah-waaah!
Yep, Oakville is filled with assholes like you. Entitled, protected by state, overdue for a trip to the ditch.
Colon fantasizing about assault and murder again.
Not fantasizing, and not assault or murder, just pest control.
Bike lanes are stupid.
Change my mind.
I see … you ARE one of the Critical Massholes I have to deal with during every short trip to the local market. You believe the rules of the road MUST BE OBEYED by drivers … and drivers MUST YIELD to bikers … but the bikers can roll through RED LIGHTS. Rules for thee, not for me.
I ride a bike too. And let me say without hesitation F-you in your front hole.
1- The coo doesn’t need to show you were endangering the public just that you were over 20km/hr.
2- He is paid to attend court. Way to stick it to him.
“There’s worse things to complain about on the roads of Canukistan than a couple of dudes on bicycles rolling through stop signs.”
Until someone runs into one.
He was speeding in a park. Pull of pedestrians, children, pets, numerous crossings, etc.
Much more dangerous than just driving down an average street.
Poor cyclists once untouchable , now fair game.
Must be hard falling from your carbon neutral mountain.
Oh well……
Somebody has to pay for all the nice bike paths.
As a driver I don’t recall ever being consulted about speed bumps going in. Wouldn’t a couple of speed bumps in the bike lane solve the problem? They shouldn’t bother the pedestrians.
I bike a lot. But I also walk with my grandma and run with my fiancé on the same trails . If there’s anything I can’t stand it’s fat guys on bikes that go to fast, too close to other people travelling in the trail.
Ticket these jerks.
Biking isn’t even exercise. It’s mostly just breathing unless you are really pushing hard.
Let’s agree there are both ahole drivers and bicyclists. I do both and try to be courteous doing both. As a cyclist I will very occasionaly go on the sidewalk but only when it is the safety interest of both. As a cyclist I do obey the rules of the road, at least most of the time. Har!
Do you think the cop woke up this morning and went to the station, checked his shave, oiled up his Glock and handcuffs, gave the pepper spray a shake, checked the charges on the taser batteries, counted the zip ties, squelched the radio, adjusted his package, and strapped on the ceramic tactical plates covered in menacing black carbon fiber polyacryliate weave and then said to himself; “Today I get to make a difference, today it’s the unvaccinated, trucker, confederate, seditionist Sikh gangs down by the country time — the one near the good Denny’s.”
Then his sarge growls out the assignment; “Janko you’re with Schmidt, same as yesterday, bike path speed trap down by the pond.”
And speaking as a cyclist, I think bike lanes are stupid and a huge waste of my taxes!
Agreed Eric. I am a bicyclist and commuted by bicycle to work for 20 years (now retired). But I deplore the utter stupidity of bike lanes. The promotion of bike lanes comes from the same place as climate change hysteria, white privilege allegations, truth and reconciliation etc. It is the desire to sabotage capitalism and enlightened western society. They want to degrade the successful in society and reduce all to squalor (except for the anointed of course).
I bike too and hate bike lanes. So much capital invested to benefit so few and exclude so many.
