Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

The Butts comment resounds one thousandfold when applied to the Liberals. (Wonder if he noticed the irony when posting?)
https://youtu.be/jmajdCGsBTs
Gerald, just do it.
The Butt’s comment is intended to take the focus off the internet censorship bill. It will probably work too.
While all the usual suspects are haranguing Rogers and rightly so, no one in the Joseph Goebbels press corp will ask a single question about the disappearing freedoms of Canadians and, in particular, the disappearance of freedom of speech.
This is not the time for the the public or for the Conservatives to take their eye off the ball. This Liberal Government is the most inept and incompetent Canadian government ever.
We need an Election, the sooner the better.
Quibble: COMPETENT. Highly competent. For now.
A fixed election?
No, we need something else.
I wonder if there’s something else going on. Maybe Rogers isn’t going along with “the plan” that will involve internet providers with the new censorship laws.
Perhaps you’ve heard about “internet for good?” Low income Canadians get extreme reductions in internet costs. All they have to do is SUBMIT FINANCIAL DOCUMENTATION to the INTERNET PROVIDER. We know this can’t be happening out of the largesse of the internet providers – it’s one big government program and more corporate fascism. I know Telus and Shaw are on board. This is Canada – would Rogers be a holdout?
Rogers is a good guy
Bahahahaha….
Sorry
They by Chinese equipment to enslave us…
Let the GubaMint take them over. They’ll fix it just like the Post Office and Passports. Get the Fidget Midget to do her voo doo over Rogers’ networks. That’ll fix it good!
And how’s that new pipeline they took over working?
WEF dry run.
‘Testing, testing…’
Stan The Man…
What’s it all that Huawei equipment?
If it was, ALL the comm providers would go down, not just Rogers.
Though, I relish at what happened yesterday. Those that see the Rogers-Shaw deal as a further reduction of competition are justified today, that we need MORE providers, not fewer.
Still, Rogers will just provide more stuffed brown bags to LIEberal bagmen to make 5he deal go down. Not enough has yet been provided to the “Big Guy” to complete the deal.
10% to the Big Turd With The Pretty Hair.
Search Cyperpolygon. Global cybersecurity test. WEF coordination with global clients. Any parallel here with pandemic event 201?
Yup. Only Justin himself should have that kind of power.
Gerald’s butt speaketh……
And the Twitter thread is full of brain damaged LIEberal Bots. These entities don’t live in the real world.
Now: “I hate the government!”
Tomorrow: “our government is right, we should help the Ukraine with billions more!”
—Typical Low-IQ “Stand with Ukraine” moron
Yeah, and what do we do when our governments and their institutions have too much power and create their own monopolies? Hmmm, Mr. Butthole?
A heightened sense of self awareness. Never a Liberal trait.
Gerald Butts’ fate will be getting ignored for eternity…
Except for the imps sodomizing him.
Can you imagine being the imp who has just been told that that is your work assignment for all eternity? “Why me? What the hell did I do to deserve that?”
Imp sodomy aside (and I’m guessing there is a sub-genre out there somewhere & probably a club in Belgium).
The fact we have been protecting our beloved ‘high-quality’ Canadian providers from ‘low-qualty’ Americans and (gasp) others, only to have that exposed as another arrogant lie about Canadian exceptionalism.
The Liberals and their Butts-buddies have one achievement that will echo for the rest of Canadian existence. Exposing how truly terrible we are at doing so many important things. You know cell phone and cable service, competing on an even playing field, making better bands than the weekend, crushing basic charter rights, reforming the electoral system, etc.
Imp sodomy aside (and I’m guessing there is a sub-genre out there somewhere & probably a club in Belgium).
You don’t have to go that far afield. The club is on Church Street in Toronto.
It is not only monopolies but government control.
I believe that this was a dry run.
Soon enough, we will be completely cut off from the world.
That disgusting, vile shill Butts is merely a mouthpiece for this.
Evidence for this being a “dry run”: Nothing. Nada. Zip.
It was an outage, nothing more, nothing less.
You’ll probably see more, smaller ones as Rogers tries to harden their systems, at least if any of Rogers management has a brain.
There was no evidence that the convoy was meant to remove the sitting government but here we are.
Indeed, had the convoy removed the sitting government, this outage may not have been a thing.

Swine throughout the world take umbrage at the insulting comparison.
You’re right.
They are better creatures.
Exactly. And they’re useful as well. Think of how much food one of them provides.
Is eating a commie really cannibalism?
FreeMan
The arrogant prick just shrugged and mocked the protesters … doesn’t realize how loathed and despised he is and doesn’t care… psychopath.
He still dines on the best and slumbers in absolute luxury thanks to the money he extracts from the lowly subjects. His thugs (aka RCMP and other municipal police “services”) are on standby to put us back in our place.
That shrug by the Poseur said it all. We’ll probably see a lot more of these non-news items.
All that matters for them,
• keep the cash flowing
• Jag’s pension entitlement eligibility in 2025
• JT now has material for his book, like PET and the pirouette behind the other Queen. Perfect.
It’s all staged.

Yeah. Some people just don’t appreciate all the sacrifices he makes so that she can call him that. She’s in the presence of genius–nay, divinity!– and she is just soooooo ungrateful. She should be bowing down in worship at such magnificence.
She may be irritating, but she’s not wrong. (With apologies to the comparatively noble and literal swine.)
Obviously, the solution will be to have them merge with Shaw, so they have even more power.
I wonder of Starlink has low enough latency to do VOIP?
yah, with absolutely no problems whatsoever. starlink has some of the lowest latency today. period.
I think I’ll save up and switch. Get out of the Canadian kleptocracy that passes for our telecom market altogether.
Use a free VOIP service like Fongo or Textnow.
It does. Just don’t hold your breath when it doesn’t work. 2 months waiting for a phone call and I got a new kit 2 days later and no issues since. They refunded me the 2 months as well. They wanted me to diagnose whether it was the dish, the cable, or the router but I just stuffed it all in the return box and left it to fedex to sort out. I think I pay enough that it should just work.
Outage timed exactly as an electromagnetic storm arrived from the sun. High latitude electrical systems most at risk. Coincidence? This is conveniently not mentioned in the media.
And yes, the monolithic nature of the network magnified to problems. But here we are, a day later, with many benefiting from a day off from cellular service. Of course some were inconvenienced and endangered, but the rest of us enjoyed the holiday.
@MJB
Why wasn’t Bell affected? Are they that much superior to Rogers?
Seems that these events appear random in what they affect. I’ve noticed that in other occurrences during last few years. Maybe some wavelengths were just “in the wrong place at the wrong time”, but I’m no electrical engineer or astrophysicist, so someone who really knows might have an answer.
Yah, all these coincidences. Sure, let’s go with that. The stars are aligning in a purely random way: just coincidence.
“Seems that these events appear random in what they affect. “????
Carrington event, FTW.
Bell is a lot better at not f*cking up their own networks. They’ve been doing it longer. I know people who work at Rogers; Rogers threw up its internet infrastructure haphazardly, based primarily on providing high-speed Internet to consumers. Their network wasn’t designed to be a backbone from day one like Bell’s was.
Shaw and Videotron, using the same tech as Rogers, not effected.
Telus and Bell, using the same cellular tech, but different wireline tech, not effected.
Hydro lines, radio, not effected.
Nothing to do with Solar activity.
It’s all about the terminations, equipment, and yes, regulatory client relationships.
The Big3 (4) rent lines off each other, where they are not the ILEC. But, those rented lines are diverted at the CO elsewhere to their proprietary equipment, or to their own facility.
So, in a nutshell, this was either a Rogers hardware or software issue, that affected its customers, it’s shadow company clients, and, direct clients.
I suspect Interac National, is a direct Rogers client, hence the reason that ALL Debit was down yesterday. The fact there was no redundant systems is inexcusable for Rogers. It’s incompetent and cheap. Heads should roll, immediately.
I think for Interac, the responsibility lies with them, and the banks, for not having dual ISP with separate infrastructure right up the ladder. I’ve known individuals running webservers in their freakin basements to have both Telus and Shaw connections…for big outfits like banks, not doing so is inexcusable.
Cloudflare says it was a sw update that Rogers implemented, and that being the case, they got it fixed pretty fast, rolled back the update AND restored their DB in record time. I’ve seen sw/DB issues take months to fix in the early 2000s, resulting in months waiting time for thousands of customers.
Butts is a talisman for the LPC. He promotes the “message” as a 3rd party although he is anything but.
Last week he was making nice with the rcmp inquiry in NS.
He is the bongo’s mouth.
The Grima Wormtongue of the Liberal Party.
Osumashi, Ain’t that the truth!
Why are the 911 services getting a pass on this? If you run a stock exchange or a bank you’re supposed to have redundant networks, backup data centres and so on. But if you run a 911 service “whoopsie, Rogers is down and there’s nothing we can do about it.” And apparently the regulator doesn’t give a hoot either because they’re more interested in policing Grandad’s posts on Facebook.
911 services were working, just not for Roger’s customers.
Multiple reports indicated problems w/ 911 in some areas even for non-Rogers customers. Of course, those reports could be inaccurate.
My guess is that those would be customers of companies that are Roger’s resellers.
Hey Ted. Huawei called. You missed a payment so they shut off your service. Just give them a call. Oh wait…
I wonder how much $$ Rogers is gonna have to pay out to big customers with service level guarantees, like Interac, hospitals, etc.
BANKS and Financial institutions apply here only. And yes, there will be financial penalties we will never hear about
As I understand things, anyone with a service level guarantee that was violated will get compensated according to a contract. Even little residential customers will probably get $50 or so, depending on how many services were interrupted and how effectively they whine.
So expect higher bills to pay for Rogers mistake…
Natch! Either that or drop the wages of her overseas drones, or both!
Food is nice.
That’s not how it works.
How long do you want to wait for your 50 bucks? Good luck with that. You’ll be lucky to get a 10 buck credit, if anything.
This is Rogers after all, the same company that attempted negative billing
“This is Rogers after all, the same company that attempted negative billing”
John Tory was responsible for that particular brainchild, and they still engage in it, making very hard to cancel a service with them.
Rogers did a net-wide software update that took effect just as the outage started. They screwed up the update, leaving them impossible to find on the internet. Not a solar flare, not planning for a solar flare.
https://blog.cloudflare.com/cloudflares-view-of-the-rogers-communications-outage-in-canada/
Then I gotta hand it to Rogers for getting it fixed so fast.
“Until such time keep those Liberal Party donations rolling in Mr.Rogers.”
It’s all theatre all the time, folks.
Yep.
Its funny, that people assume that when a company makes donations to a given party, that the company must support that party’s platform, when in reality its a protection racket, and it shows who is more likely to shut you down or kneecap you if you don’t come through.
Its like saying a bar owner who pays mafiosos or bikers protection monies somehow supports the bikers or mafiosos.
Precisely.
Well if Butts is so concerned about Rogers’ ‘power’ over the market then he should advocate for opening it up to foreign investment/entrants and otherwise deregulating it.
That would make it harder to control “Canadian” content.
Yes let’s let China take it over right UNme?
With Justine always being the pitcher, Gerald, and you always being the catcher: now, that’s too much power.
Rogers sucks my balls.. I wouldn’t spit on them of they were dying of thirst..
You shoulda heard all the whinging from folks that couldn’t buy a coffee or whatever from the coffee shops…the Interac terminals were down all day, and these twits didn’t have ANY cash on them. Totally dependent on their debit cards.
Who travels around without even a couple of toonies or loonies in their pocket/purse?
You are correct they complained more than let’s say Sickness kill shots, loss of freedoms, runaway inflation, food scarcity approaching but my debit card won’t work…
The plebs will accept the digital enslaving currencies with their .gov approved social un moral credit scores…
God help us…
@DaninVan:
Older people like me normally carry cash all the time which came in handy when I had to pay the breakfast tab at a restaurant what with both debit and credit cards not working, at least in that restaurant.
Bahahaha
Sorry
Rogers use China approved enslaving the Canadian population equipment with our .gov’s approvals…
Did Rogers install Huawei as well as Telus?
OK; I can understand them wanting to get the 5G up and running but why in Hell would they pick equipment that’d already been designated as China spyware (by pretty much everyone but Canada)? Makes no sense at all. It’s not as if Huawei was the only contender.
My neighbor, a career telecommunications manager (now retired), figured it was a cost based decision…pretty short sighted if they now have to pull it all out and replace it.
