Things are getting really bad in Canada when the biggest criticism of a plan to give everyone “free” dental care is that it will create jurisdictional disputes with the provinces. The fact that it will add vast amounts of fuel to our ongoing borrowing blaze does not seem to bother anyone in the chattering classes.
Davies said the program would be akin to employment insurance. With dental care, the federal government will provide an insurance plan that allows dentists to send a bill to the federal government. “No different than the federal government sending an EI check every two weeks,” he said.
Whatever word could possibly be used to describe this program, “insurance” is not that word.

The analogy is bullshit. The EI Funds do not belong to the Government of Canada or any Government of Canada.
They are payroll contributions of all workers in Canada, and the employers.
I have friends in the UK.
None of them have anything good to say about nationalized dental care there. In fact, the phrase I heard most frequently out of their mouths with regards to the quality or timeliness of dental care in the UK was “pissed off.” Yeah, you can occasionally get lucky, but that’s not an endorsement of that system.
The dentists will pretend to work, and the government will pretend to pay them.
The geniuses who are in charge of this program should take a look at ICBC, where private industry absolutely HOSES the gub’mint insurance company.

l got in just[in] time, l suspect the criteria are gonna get more stringent and when inflation comes back like a 50 billion tonne landslide, les banques are n’est pas interested (pun intended) in giving up all dat income.
I get all my dental work done in Los Algodones, BC, Mexico, at a fraction of the cost in Canada. As in one-fifth or one-sixth the cost.
One thing should always have been included in provincial health care – extractions. Impacted teeth can lead to heart disease. I had a dentist that could find one cavity every five years. He retired and I have a new graduate that can find five cavities in one year. If everyone is on a dental plan they amount of make-work will go out of sight.

Honest Questions after the last two years…
Does the US have a shortage of dentists? because Canada is about to have one
Here’s how this is going to go:
1- dentists will charge patients extra to make up for the low rates the feds pay
2- dentists are forbidden from charging extra
3- no dentist then takes federal “insurance”
4- the feds ban “private” dentists and boom you have UK style socialist dental care
We’ll have to go the us for basic dentistry now too. All so bums get it free.

Well it is one way to solve the current situation,where my Dentist makes my Dr look like a useless bureaucrat..

I’m able to get into see my dentist quickly and for a reasonable price. If I choose I can bey insurance or if I’m lucky my employer provides me with coverage.
I compare that to our public health care system at the hospitals. My aunt seen a doctor there who gave her meds to ease her pain from arthritis. That medication destroyed her kidneys with in a year. She will be on dialysis for the remainder of her life now. My brother went there when he was sick and was told to go home and sleep it off. His wife told him to go back, a different doctor decided he needed immediate treatment and he was rushed to a hospital in a larger city. We found out that he had a fungus in his lungs that kills most of the time and half the time with proper treatment. My father needed a hip replacement and had to wait for seven years to move up the list to be able to get it. By that time he could hardly walk. I needed a simple treatment to remove wax from my ear to relieve pressure on my ear drum with water trapped behind it. I went to four clinics and the hospital over three days and never received any treatment other then offering drugs to cope with the pain. after the weekend I was able to go to a privet clinic that does hearing aids and get it cleaned out. of course having not been treated for so long I ended up with a ear infection.
No thanks I would much rather have private care that I can pay for. I would chose it every time over government employees that I and my family have not had acceptable treatment from. I’d support privet hospitals too if I could but in Canada that is a crime unless your an athlete, politician or the right kind of public servant.
My husband and I pay 5000 out of pocket for private dental and a drug plan, so now we’ll end up paying for the welfare class to get more free stuff. The people they are catering to already get 99 percent of government resources and money for free, the NDP can’t keep the welfare class happy enough I guess.
