  1. Theoretical constructs with no basis in reality. In one fanciful simulation, a “car” passed through “truck”. Real world, that would have borked the intersection for an hour. Calculated Total flow without allowance for human reactions, or lack there of, is meaningless. Even calculations for fluid flow in a pipe and fittings allows for turbulence.

I am sure that highway engineers would opt for a “safer” intersection design and accept a lower theoretical throughput.

    1. My town installed roundabouts at two highway exits 20 years ago. 20 years later people still can’t figure out how to get to the left without almost killing me.

Diverging diamond interchanges are cool too. Very smart design, except drivers are stupid.

      1. Yes, if they don’t understand how things are supposed to work they won’t work. We have many roundabouts here in our area and all of them are too small to signal intent, useless as a traffic moving tool.

      2. Yes those roundabouts will make great choke points checkpoints of who can enter and or leave.

They have been planning for a very long time

      3. Bunny

We have a diverging interchange right here in Shawnessy, South Calgary. Works quite well…
But in a Province with more space than pretty much anywhere, for most interchanges they are still stuck on partial cloverleafs with traffic lights. Still stuck in 1954.

Before they built Deerfoot trail in Calgary, the City had some US Hwy Engineers come up and make some suggestions – None of which were implemented..Now one look at this “highway” and it shows their (the City’s), abject arrogance all too well.

      4. In Sundre AB, they made three intersections into roundabouts. No one there has a clue how those operate. Most refuse to yield to cars in the circle and holler “luck to you” after they damn near t-bone you. It’s the same problem in Calgary.

In Calgary, there used to be one decent cloverleaf-diamond interchange. That was 16 Ave N and Barlow Trail. But the City had to screw that one up too.

        1. In Calgary, there used to be one decent cloverleaf-diamond interchange. That was 16 Ave N and Barlow Trail.

I think I remember that one because I lived nearby in Marlborough more than 40 years ago.

    2. It’s worth noting that this animation was created using a video game, not any actual traffic simulation engine.

I’m seeing an increasing tendency for young Gen-Xers and millennials to think that video games, TV and movies are real life, or at least representative of it.

    1. “If you want to send a message, call Western Union.” Sam Golwyn

Evidently, modern-day Hollywood has long forgotten that.

  2. Nerds only, if you know the channel you’ll get it, he goes on twelve different tangents before he makes a brief point on topic. The tangents are good though. Y Knot, if you’re still around, you will probably enjoy it.

      1. Part of Newhart’s appeal as a comedian was that he did it completely deadpan. Much of it relied on the listener’s or viewer’s imagination to fill in the blanks.

    1. Damn. Missed it. I always turn on every light in the house, stoke up a fire in the backyard firepit & fire up the genset for an hour. The latter just to charge up the battery in case the power goes out this spring, doncha know.

I’ll counter that with a totally pointless & unnecessary trip on the Hawg to Med Hat & back today. Seeing as I’m there, I may visit a craft brewery or three…

        1. It was great. Temps coolish to start, very warm on the way back with the clothing we wore. No wind, clear blue sky. Hit a little greasy spoon in the Hat for lunch, then found our way to Hell’s Basement Brewing just off the Trans-Canada. Spent a couple hours there. Good service, great beers.

  3. I would humbly request a renewed interest by SDA in the truckers ottawa protest, the rate at which the “crown” are producing additional charges is ridiculous.

There is nothing turdeau and the ndp-nfg would like better than we forget the people who achieved so much in shutting down the vaccine mandates and mask idiocy.

    1. The convoy disobeyed the Prinz Dummkopf version of the First Commandment.

During my past two trips going to my house in B. C., passed by Gunn and I saw a group of convoy supporters each time. I plan on being on the road again later this morning and, maybe they’ll be there once more. I hope I remember to give them a honk.

      1. Still a small group of protesters at Milk River last weekend. I always give them a long, meaty honk, both ways.

      2. Sure enough, the supporters were out again, located about a minute or two’s drive past Gunn. I gave them a good honk and they waved back.

    2. This is standard practice for police/crown attorneys/DAs across North America: load up the defendant with dozens of bogus charges you haven’t a prayer of making stick, to intimidate them into pleading out to a single charge. If that doesn’t work and you go to trial, juries are much more likely to convict on one or two of the charges as a form of compromise, regardless of the actual evidence.

In the US there some disincentives to this; the judge can censure the prosecution and you can charge a DA with malicious prosecution for filing bogus charges. No such remedies exist in Canadian law.

      1. Find something by Conrad Black on the US “justice” system. He calls it a “prosecutorial system”. In the US, it often doesn’t even go to trial. 99% conviction rate as well.

    4. Yet, the little (starts with “C”, rhymes with hunt) heads to Europe with his loyal presstitutes to proclaim how great he is.

  4. Tal Bachman, Randy’s son, writes in SteynOnline about Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s 1978 Harvard Address. How prescient was Mr. Solzhenitsyn.
“For Solzhenitsyn, as I read him, there is a void at the heart of the West. The Western world makes “brilliant technological progress”, yet is now psychologically weak. It has lost its will and its belief in itself. It has lost its moral bearings. That moral confusion was present even during World War II, he says, when the liberal democracies of the West recruited the (grotesquely immoral) Soviet Union as an ally when that was never necessary. (And he must also have been thinking of the West’s post-war delivery of Eastern Europe to the Soviet regime). As he looks ahead (from his perspective in 1978), he sees the West forming yet another “doomed alliance with evil” by cozying up to China. He also predicts China will eventually turn on the United States. (Why, yes).”

    1. How that can be accused of “airbrushing” is beyond me. They took a selection of it’s face, applied a nasty Gaussian blur, pulled back the eyes & called it good. Twenty seconds work. A competent Photoshopper, in less than 3 minutes, could have done a better, far less noticeable job.

    1. When Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently addressed the European Union Parliament and warned of growing threats to democracy, he received an angry backlash from some elected members who accused him of responding to the recent anti-vaccine mandate convoy protest like a dictator.

“The public rebukes by a handful of far-right, populist and anti-vaccine members of the European Parliament claiming Trudeau violated civil rights in response to the protest that occupied Ottawa for almost a month went viral on social media.

Trudeau’s Liberal government invoked the Emergencies Act for the first time in history in February, giving police and other authorities extraordinary powers to disrupt the protest.

Most of the European Parliament members in attendance for Trudeau’s speech in Brussels, the Belgian capital, were seen giving the prime minister a standing ovation. The assembly’s public galleries were full for the speech.” Communist Broadcasting Corpse.

  5. Interesting interview with former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis

    https://youtu.be/su4czYxGYxo

He is the one who says you have to build a golden bridge for you enemy to escape over if you really want peace. He then mentions some interesting things about oligarchs.

I know it’s Democracy dot now but once every two years they do good journalism so shut-up and watch.

  6. Joe Biden – why not go all-in when your popularity has slipped below level trump – is introducing a billionaire’s tax on Monday.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/26/president-joe-biden-to-propose-new-20percent-minimum-billionaire-tax-.html

The tax will be levied on individuals earning more than $100 million a year. Not sure why he didn’t call it a millionaire’s tax. But look for that number to come down as the expected revenue doesn’t materialize. You begged for more taxes. Here they are.

“…Russia has the most powerful nuclear weapons force in the world…”
No Question…and, they also have the largest supply of non nuclear weaponry, some of which the West has Zero defence thereof: Their Hypersonic Missiles – Given they are maneuverable & some 4-500km faster than any Patriot missile or similar ICBM defence system, they have zero hope of destroying anyone of them..

As per Scott Ritter (a US intelligence person and ex UN Nuclear weapons Inspector), If Russia decides its time to eliminate the NATO threat, they could easily wipe out EVERY DEFENCE HQ in the EU within a 15 min time span.

And theres not a Damned thing anyone could do about it.

If they do, I sure hope Trudles is in a meeting in one of them….

  7. Guess what is going to happen to those arrested in the Trucker Convoy….

A criminal trial in Canada was held entirely in secret.

“Quebec’s justice minister says he’s looking into a criminal trial in the province involving a police informant that took place entirely in secret and was kept off the official court docket.”

“…the case had no official docket number, the witnesses were questioned outside court, adding that “no trace of this trial exists, other than in the minds of the individuals implicated.”

    1. Interesting. I have a theory that starts with the USA becoming self-reliant on oil & gas production, then starting to export into the world market. This was the camel back-breaking straw. Oil-rich countries were happy to trade in US dollars as long as the US was a major importer of their commodity. These oil exporters will now leave the USD, Russia obviously, China probably, and India possibly. More than half the world’s population is poised to leave the US behind as the world reserve currency. It won’t happen quickly because these countries also trade heavily with the US. But as it happens the US will have less leverage on the world stage. I’m on the fence whether that is a good thing or not because they are all bad actors.

      1. It’s the planned demolition of the west

Our government’s actions are targeting us all and not really hurting Russia

        Example
        Natural Immunity – Covid Shots

        Which one is causing devastation?

And our gov is not planning to stop either enjoy the current reprieve

Trudeau’s Health Minister says the govt is holding onto vaccines because they say the pandemic is not over and it’ll protect us by:

    1. There’s an old story about a prospector who asked a geologist to evaluate his newfound prospect. The geologist hemmed and hawed and finally the prospector – totally exasperated – took him back to the adit and, pointing to his mule waiting outside, asked “And what colour is it?” The geologist looked closely and finally declared: “grey, on this side.”.
Back in the day worked for a mining exploration company which – of course – had geologists. A co-worker was heard to comment, “I don’t know if I would want to marry a geologist; they’re nice, but not like normal people”. She had the right of it.

  8. While the Dear Leader is away, his serfs will play. Freedom Convoy 2.0 rolled through Ottawa yesterday:

“Unlike the convoy that recently occupied downtown streets, Saturday’s was a muted affair — at least from the vehicles — with organizers stressing to participants to refrain from blowing their horns, as per instructions from Ottawa police. The slow-rolling convoy additionally did not stop, except for obvious traffic reasons, as it continued on to Vankleek Hill and Highway 417.

But the support from the sidewalk demonstrators was loud and clear, with chants of “liberté,” “freedom” and “no more mandates” amplified by bullhorns and augmented by John Lennon’s Imagine and Tom Petty’s I Won’t Back Down on a portable sound system, as well as whistles and shouts of thanks and approval. Flags representing Quebec, Canada, Ontario, Alberta, the United States and the Mohawk nation were waved, as were signs and banners bearing such slogans as “We Are All Essential,” “We the Fringe,” “Make Canada Free Again” and “Mandate Freedom.”

    1. The various gubmints will simply offset that additional cost & consumer reluctance with more taxpayer-funded bribes subsidies.

    1. How about solar panels. They are only 20% efficient. The rest is heat. They call it heat loss, but it’s really heat gain. 80% of solar energy is re-radiated as heat.

    1. Free Man..

Being a diesel guy, 06 D’Max – I found that truck to be beyond insane…
I run EFI Live on a moderate Tune..~ 45hp+, brings my LBZ to just around 425hp…with some ~650 ft lbs. Tis all I’ll ever need.

      3000hp..??
I’d be curious as to how much coin that guy just blew up..150K +…??
Had to be triple turbo’ed, 100% built engine …. Running some other than # 1 Diesel…but what an explosion…OMG.!!

  9. Foo Fighters drummer autopsy revealed 10 different substances in his urine analysis. Probable cause of death….

    1. “Probable cause of death….”

      Suicide.

      P.S.
Don’t mean to seem critical but the day the “music died” as per the reference in the song “American Pie” by Don McLean, was in the 1990s, exception, perhaps Country music. Imo, that’s the new RocknRoll. I can’t relate to Foo Fighters, it’s freaking noise, tho’ sorry for the old chap. Maybe he shoulda played jazz or R&B –it might’ve saved him.

      P.P.S.
World and local politics is enough to put anyone down in the dumps– exactly where we all are now, self included.

      1. I stopped listening to popular music about 30 years ago when I discovered CD recordings of classical music. I have no idea what this group is, let alone anything about the drummer.

        (Shrug!)

          1. As I mentioned elsewhere, I drove to my house from Edmonton. Today’s playlist on SiriusXM Channel 76/Symphony Hall included Beethoven’s Piano Concerto #3 and a suite from Handel’s Water Music.

Late in the afternoon, I switched over to Channel 355/Met Opera Radio and listened to a vintage performance of Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore with Renata Scotto and Carlo Bergonzi.

It made the 7+ hour drive bearable.

And he’s right. Stop giving money to people who hate you.

  12. Diesel fuel update.

I drove to my house in B. C. from Edmonton again. Six weeks ago, diesel was $1.50/litre at the Mobil/SuperStore near where I live. Last trip, it was $1.80. Earlier today, it was $1.93. In Grande Prairie, it was $1.89.

By comparison, at the Esso across the street, gasoline was $1.65, $1.95 in Beaverlodge and Hythe, and close to $2.00 at the Co-op a few blocks from my house in FSJ.

It’s gotta be coincidence that diesel is so much more expensive than gasoline, right? (Uh-huh….. and what do those honk-honking truckers fuel their rigs with? And who does Dear Leader hate so much? Yeah, it’s just a random thing, isn’t it?)

While I’m at it, I just got the latest gas bill for my house: over $700 for 2 months, which included the time that it was so cold around the beginning of the year. Gee, thanks Prinz Dummkopf and your Dipper buddy Horgan…..
