Not many have been bought off like you think, the majority of Lib voters have been brainwashed by the mainstream media into thinking that conservative people are cold and heartless and willing to close an orphanage and put the children out on the street in order to make an extra .001% profit. Think Snidely Whiplash from the old silent movie era. We have been effectively dehumanized. It makes it so that in any debate we always start on the defensive having to show that we aren’t the inhuman monsters that they say we are. Then of course, when the MSM only ever report one side of a story, the people never get a chance to make fully informed decisions.

Canada is a very liberal country. We’d fit seamlessly into the EU as we are further to the left than of many of the countries.

Maybe there is no place in the modern world for a conservative party? Voters don’t want smaller government, balanced budgets free trade or lower taxes, they want free stuff. Free medical services, dental care and $10/day child care. Up next is free veterinarian services.
In order for conservatives to form government in Canada they need to align themselves with every issue the lib/ndp support and then wait until the country is so pissed at the lib/ndp that they throw them from office. It’s not really a vote for conservatism it’s a vote against the socialists.

A simple license from a private commission (the government must be kept as far away from it as possible) would solve our media problem. It doesn’t have to be expensive, say just $25 a year so that anyone can get it. The rules that they would have to follow would be simple, Sources for stories must be kept and divulged if the story is disputed in court, retractions must have the same amount of column inches and/or airtime that the original story had and cannot be buried where no one will see it, opinion can never be passed off as news.
With the advent of spellcheck and other digital writing aids, a journalist needs no special skill so open it up to anyone who wants to give it a try. It can’t get any worse than the clown show that we have now.
How about leaving everything to the free market. If they buy your product you must be doing something right. If not you disappear. Any Government “subsidy” is a bribe with strings attached.
