  1. Putin is as of today. A Ukrainian doctor calling for castration of Russian prisoners. Zelensky banning all political parties but his own. All media in Ukraine now nationalised by Zelensky.

    1. Gee, I wonder if the Russians have any dull, rusty knives. Tit for Tat. Or nut for nut.

What kind of fool openly asks for war crimes against his enemy and doesn’t think far enough ahead to see that it could be his own nuts in the vise. I guess he is committed to not being taken prisoner if things go south.

        Ummm…Tick Tock Trudles?

  2. Zelensky’s Ukraine sure sounds a lot like Trudeau’s Canada.
Is Trudeau jetting to Europe again for more lessons?

  3. Slightly off-topic, but I need to share this.

I know that there has been unspeakable hatred uttered on this forum from both sides, and although I would tend to agree that the political class from both sides have been corrupted to no ends, let’s not forget who the real victims of this tragedy really are.

    Case in point:

I don’t care who’s got the moral high-ground in this debate. Let’s all pray to end the suffering of the real victims, like this little boy, who still praises God amidst all the terrifying destruction taking place in his country.

  4. Well, if the Russians are winning, then what would the academic call losing?

The lines have stabilized after the initial incursions. The Russians are in hostile territory. They don’t control the population centers. One can only expect that sooner or later the Ukrainians switch to offense in a big way.

    1. The Ukrainian Army has already begun to collapse. The Russians will now be giving serious ultimatums to cut off Ukrainian troops. Once the civilian evacuations are “complete”, cut-off Ukrainian brigades will be slaughtered by heavy artillery and thermombaric weapons if they refuse surrender. Most UAF will realise it’s over, and begin surrendering in droves. The die-hards will be turned to goo by guys who are hitting them from two towns over.

Russians don’t fight on your timetable. Russia is using the classic Russian steamroller. They are defeating an army three times their size, in detail.

You Westerners have never studied big-arrow combined arms Army-scale warfare. You think warfare is Navy Seals. You don’t take and hold ground in conventional war, with special forces. You take it with tanks and artillery, and you hold it with tanks and artillery. And you dish out, and suffer, massive losses. It has always been the Russian way of war.

This campaign will be studied for years in Western military academies for the stunningly low casualty count among civilians. Yup, approximately only 5-7% of the military combined casualties level, compared with parity or worse in WW2, and compared with Western warcrimes and deliberate mass murder of civilians in Iraq, Serbia, Afghanistan, Syria and Libya. It will also be studied for the speed at which ground was taken, in the middle of the Rasputitsa, against a NATO-trained and equipped army, dug in along interior lines of communications, by guys using obsolete equipment (to save money: it was mostly Cold War era stuff that was sitting around unused) and smaller probing forces, inching along, house by house, field by field, grinding the enemy slowly and systematically to dust.

The Russians have not begun to take the gloves off – notice they didn’t hit an official UAF barracks till this weekend just passed? Well that is about to step up big time.

The Russians are clearing 3-6 towns and villages per day. Against a determined and dug in enemy 3 times their size. With a total of about 800 civilian casualties (UNHCR figures) since the start. The US had slaughtered around 10,000 Iraqi civilians at this point in 2003 – against a basically collapsed army.

Oh make no mistake – NATO (because everyone knows the Ukrainian forces in the East, who were the Donbass invasion force, before they got badly surprused and preempted by the Russians, are interchangeable with any US or German battalions) is being given a masterclass in how to systematically, inexorably fuck up a NATO army on their home turf.

And the Chinese are watching, taking detailed notes, amd licking their chops.

If I lived in Taiwan, I’d be emigrating now.

      1. So the Russians haven’t taken off the gloves yet, I expect because they are still on a train somewhere near Moscow’s 4th ring road.

They are really going to be studying the complete collapse in Russian logistics for decades to come, that and conscripts.

      2. @MaxFactor,

Good read, I fall in that camp with how the physical operations are going. Not taking sides just reading the landscape objectively with limited (censored) one sided information.

There is the difference between good Generals and fools – leaders don’t count their chickens before they are hatched, and they don’t assume that what they see is what they get, or assume that their opponent would do what they would do.

To many LOL’s posting as if they were military geniuses, calling a military win one way or another based on some Hollywood version of how war works or at best long outdated tactics they read somewhere. Russians have a history of producing chess masters, it would be foolish to assume you know the play or the next move.

  5. “Who is really winning the war in Ukraine?”

Start with China, then slide the pointer to the Euro Globalists like the WEF, IMF and a host of other geopolitical rape organizations, then the western Oligarchs many of whom belong to one or a few of the same organizations, and then their political puppets and business opportunists, continue right down the sewer line to western media organizations.

Who is losing the war – Ukrainian people, Russian people, Third World people, and We the People.

  6. This has become a mildly surreal experience, and would probably be funny if it wasn’t for all the dead people.

Picture if you will a conflict where a ‘powerful’ nation has intervened in a situation. Picture the ‘rivals’ to this powerful nation not directly wanting to get involved, but being more than willing to provide material support to the smaller nation and – rightly or wrongly – making the larger nation’s task more difficult.

    (cough – Vietnam – cough)

War by proxy people. It is a thing.

Of secondary concern back in the 80s when I still had hair I stumbled across a series of slightly trash novels by James Rouch called ‘The Zone’. I only read the first two but just discovered Rouch kept pushing them out semi regularly into the 90s and ended up being 10 books in all. Basic premise is the Warsaw Pack decided to turn the Cold War Hot and crossed the West/End German border. Advanced stalled. The battlefield when full NBC and the war spread… actually the war was completely contained in ‘The Zone’ in various degrees of savagery and the implication that outside of ‘The Zone’ the rest of the world carried on in a degree of normality.

Not profound works of written art by any means and I had largely forgotten them for 30 years, but looking at the current situation they came back to my memory. A medium to high intensity conflict using the latest in military hardware but also completely contained within an agreed geographical boundary.

Slightly disturbed by this parallel really.

  7. World War 1 over the top, no man’s land for the living.

World War 11 Death Head Skulls on German caps, uniforms , Shot on sight.

Vietnam War Body count , including women and children. Human ear necklaces.
    What part of
    WAR SUCKS did I IMISS?

  8. I dunno why Roggio is saying Kharkiv is surrounded, not even the Russians claim to be anywhere near that. The city is open to the west, with multiple roads available. Izium isn’t taken, again even the Russians say the south still holds – and the south is behind a substantial river and has a road out to the south. The Russians only claim to be near the road. Sumy isn’t surrounded either. Bizarre claims.

Most cities in Ukraine need to be taken because the roads go through them. The Russians can’t bypass because the ground is still too soft for vehicles. They must acquire the roads to advance in strength. A lot of the cities are much bigger than Mariopol, well fortified and provisioned.

He struggled a bit when countered, and didn’t seem up to date. The Russians have let slip they have 10,000 dead, 16,000 injured. Their stance at Kyiv is now defensive.

  9. Winning?
    Its war.
    Nobody wins.
As for who is achieving their objectives?
    That depends .
    WHAT ARE THE REAL OBJECTIVES?
    Putin says …
    Z of Ukraine says..
    Our media party says..
If Putin’s speech at the beginning is to be believed, then Russia in proceeding to plan.
    Z ? Daily survival is a win.
Our Media Party, they have over half our gullibles all lined up,”There! Not There”..
But the “war” is not selling very well.
After listening to the posted video, looks like the classic pincher movement is still a popular war time move.
If that map is anywhere near accurate, the Eastern Ukraine forces are in for a world of hurt.
The very army the Separatist Provinces want dead..

What are our interests in this squabble between cousins?
4 weeks in and apart from pious virtue signalling I am none the wiser.
What Canadian Objectives are served by us meddling, however pathetically,in this affair?
We cannot claim to be supporting “Rule of Law” for we have no such here at home.
    Whats the deal?
Or are we just bleating “That Man Bad mehkay” as our progressive Comrades do so well when they are selling us down the river..

If Canada was a real capitalist country,we might be cheering for war,as it drives up the international price of the few commodities we are allowed to produce, under the central planning of Justine The Petulant..
Maybe in another 4 weeks we will actually learn more,as to “who is winning”
Meanwhile the relentless propaganda tells me,we Canadians are amongst the losers.

Just another case of “Look over there” as we are robbed ever more.

  10. NATO may appear to be held on the sidelines powerless but you have to wonder if the war operations in Ukraine may not be laying bare all of Russia’s communication assets for space spy satellites to monitor and detect. My guess is that they know where the high command are located at all times, in particular Putin.

It is also hard to imagine what Russia actually gains by all of this. They lose about a quarter of their standing army. Putin loses a lot of support. A “win” means they have a destroyed country to pacify and control for a generation with non-stop criticism from the global community. They have basically said they don’t want to be part of the western world any more and will take their chances with the likes of China, Iran and all the other loser nations.

They will never be allowed to participate in international sport for the entire time they are either in Ukraine or back home refusing to admit their guilt or pay reparations. That may sound like nothing here, but there it will have an impact.

And worst case scenario, they expose themselves to the horrors of nuclear war. Maybe they think since we will also face those horrors, it will somehow be a bit better. That is just sheer madness. This whole enterprise is madness really, an over-reaction to trends in the world that while legitimately disturbing have other, saner solutions. Like perhaps just speaking the truth. Maybe if more people tried that, this wouldn’t seem like the insane asylum of the galaxy to anyone out there listening and wondering how the hell this planet got so messed up.

    “For all we are
    is an amusement to some
    intelligence.”

  11. It is a stupid unnecessary war. A war that has been manufactured under false pretenses by a stone cold sociopath who wanted a popularity boost and ended up biting more than he could chew. Ukrainians are holding the line at great cost to both sides. They cannot surrender because they know surrender means utter destruction of their way of life. They know Pootin is already deporting undesirables to gulags. That only strengthens their resolve. The war will end with utter destruction of several Ukrainian cities, war crimes on both sides and massive loss of life. Desperate people will eventually end up getting their pyrrhic victory and the invader will leave bloodied and humiliated. Both sides will be economically devastated. Either that or russians will literally kill millions or tens of millions.

And all for nothing. All because average russians on the street refuse to look critically at the monster they have nurtured. Instead of asking “why are we always poor?”, “why don’t we ever have what the civilized have?”. Russians prefer to accept poverty, corruption, unaccountability and constant nightmarish humiliation if only the tyrant above them will let them off leash once in a while and they get to subjugate their neighbors. Evil people, evil culture, evil society, evil norms. They deserve their tyrants, those around them don’t.
