    1. There is much to address from that article, but I’ll limit my observations to this statement:

  9. So, shouldn’t there be ramifications written into the EMA such that the PM cannot call it into effect on frivolous grounds? Say, some punishment (resignation, jail time, etc.) for the PM if it turns out there was no emergency to deal with? It seems as it is there are no repercussions for calling it for any reason at all. Police are held accountable for abuse, false arrest, etc. Why isn’t there a check and balance against the PM w.r.t. the Emergencies Act? Otherwise it could be called anytime, for any reason, without consequences to the PM, as long as you revoke it before the Senate votes on it, and you have unlimited power for a week.

    Or longer, if you close parliament under the EMA.

      The only way we can ensure this will never be used against law abiding citizens again is to completely & entirely eliminate it.

    3. Anything that displeases Dear Leader can and will be elevated into an emergency, thereby warranting the suspension of the Constitution and the imposition of martial law. After all, he admires a certain country’s “basic dictatorship”, doesn’t he?

      (There’s a persistent story that he was only joking when he made that asinine statement. If it was supposed to be frivolous, then why didn’t he explain that he wasn’t being serious?)

  11. I have asked my CPC MP (and PP) to sue Trudeau for illegally invoking the EA, two or three times.
    Of course, no response.
    I suppose they want the opportunity to use it themselves.
