    2. The article underscores the futility of trying change the culture through politics when it is culture that drives politics and the dominant culture has been vandalized by statist for decades. Canada is likely finished as a nation. It will hopefully fly apart geographically as the economy is savaged by statists. That would allow a population re-distribution based on cultural similarities. What Quebec has done to Canada politically is proof that multiculturalism is toxic to a lasting coexistence. Playing favorites, shakedown-politics, divide and conquer, enshrined inequalities (Equalization), and balkanization are all signs of a multicultural nation.

    4. Great article but I can distill it down to one idea. From the article…

      “What quickly became apparent was how naïve they [young city women] were about the harshness of life.”

      This is the problem. Cities have become a very successful model for eliminating harshness. You don’t have to grow your own food, electricity and hot/cold running water are provided 24/7. Right now the government is borrowing heavily to subsidize this paradise. Who wouldn’t vote for that.

      But it will end. And people will reluctantly vote Conservative (or worse) again. But only while they have to.

    5. Indeed an excellent article, but it omits a key contributor to the decline of the Conservatives – over 25% of the employed in Canada “work” in the public sector. They are all voters and they vote for the parties (Liberal, NDP, BQ & Green) that promise ever bigger government with complete job security for public servants.

    A lot of Corman’s work could be considered schlock, suitable for the drive-in crowd, though his The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre (with a cast that included Jason Robards and George Segal) was a pretty decent flick. Jack Nicholson and Bruce Dern appeared in his movies and he was a mentor to Ron Howard. (Watch for him as a politician in Apollo 13.)

    1. That’s nothing new. At Armpit College, I frequently got into trouble for using words from my vocabulary that were, at times, a bit obscure (“Oh, he’s just showing off how smart he thinks he is.” Uh, no, I’m using the English language.)

      Most of my students rarely used a dictionary, though I’m not surprised as many didn’t even know what a thesaurus was.
