  2. Is this the same civil service that never missed a paycheque due to the pandemic, even received raises and are paid at least 15% more than their private sector employee makes? The Organization that just hired 52k managers to manage the managers. Only vast sums of money will help a little bit.

    1. Hi David, I work for Transport Canada, and I’m not sure where you’re getting your figures from. I’m an AME (Aerospace Maintenance Engineer) and get paid less than my counterparts at the airlines, as an example Air Inuit in Montreal was offering $8k/year more for my specialty last summer. The advantage of working for TC is there is no night-shift and you get weekends off, so it’s a quality of life issue. Yes there were contract settlements, in spring this year a new contract was signed but the old contract expired June 22nd 2018. That contract expired June 22nd 2021. You read that correctly we signed a 3 year contract 2 years and 9 months after it started. By the time the back-pay cheques were paid the contract expired. The pay raises were less than the inflation rate, by the way. There’s only 200,000 federal civil servants, not counting the army and RCMP so where are you getting 52,000 new managers from? I’m a supervisor of seven employees in a small operational section and most supervisors have more.

Still no explanation for how a recent immigrant can suffer historical abuses. Where do we sign up for a class action suit for being abused citizens?

  11. Worked with many of them in my Silly Servant days.
    Most (not all) of them are shiftless hangers-on with bad attitudes and feel entitled.
    Some told me to my face that the secret is playing the race card if needed to cover their ass.

      And somehow, this is touted as not only not racist, but ANTI-racist. If anyone has any explanation besides mass psychosis, I’m dying to hear it.

  14. Everyone gets passed over for promotions unless they speak French. The Feds are dominated by Francophone interests. Also — the public service is a nightmare for many people who work there. It is not ultimately a race thing. Actually there probably are not enough Blacks in the public service for this to be a verifiable complaint.

  15. I see that the cases mentioned in the article were long term employees (25 to 30 or more years). If conditions were so terrible, did it not occur that they might quit for another job. Then again, a private sector employer may expect them to work and not just show up on time. From my experience dealing with municipal, provincial and federal civil servants, the latter are the laziest and dumbest by far.

    1. I am sure conditions were not so terrible for them. Most blacks would have been very happy to get a job in the public service. Salaries are very good. These people are simply trying to capitalize on the current bandwagon of seeking compensation based on ethnicity or some other minority factor. This would be more believable if it were about blacks trying to get into the public service and not succeeding.

  16. I worked heavy construction and maintenance for 43 years.
    Much of it as a supervisor or in management. Have you any idea how many times I was called a Journeyman C*nt. A Bastard a Prick a SOB. etc etc. Ha Ha Ha Ha.

    I saw very few Blacks or Women in actual heavy trades. And when I was working, and running projects. I was 100% fair. Male or Female, Black White or Chinese. My rules were very simple show up everyday, 12 hrs pay for 12 hrs work no drunks, no drugs and caught stealing, I would fire your ass on the spot.

    Yah and I was a C*nt, an asshole, a prick, a bastard etc. One thing I hated was a whiner.
