If you are wondering how the lockdown philosophy seems to have gripped conservative political leaders just as thoroughly as liberals, this article offers some great insights into how that happened. The author refers mostly to the British experience, but his observations would apply equally to most political jurisdictions on the planet.
“One of the most striking things about the past year has been the uniform and all but unquestioning embrace of the novel policy of lockdown by Government, opposition parties, and the mainstream media. Even as the number of fatalities, hospitalisations, and cases collapse, the Government remains religiously wedded to the sclerotic pace of its easing strategy and news bulletins continue to duckspeak calls to comply with the most illiberal restrictions ever imposed on British society, refusing to interrogate these restrictions’ costs. Those who question lockdown orthodoxy, be they distinguished scientists, civil liberties campaigners, or journalists beyond the print and televisual oligopolies, are denounced as ‘deniers’ and shut down.”
“Above all, the political class is unfamiliar with the scientific method. They understand ‘the science’ as a term of power they can deploy to shut down debates and win arguments, which has one ‘correct’ answer. They fail to recognise it as a process of investigation, determined by assumptions and inputs, which will often produce outlying results and whose purveyors can unintentionally mislead the uninitiated by the words they use to describe phenomena like percentage correlations.”

The feckless bunch in Canada otherwise known as the CPC were frightened of being branded as “anti science” so they folded like cheap suits.
Kabuki theater actress Michelle Rempel admitted as much when she told viewers why she didn’t oppose Trudeau’s carbon tax.
Nonsense in its entirety. Only had to read one paragraph.
a) they do not have noble intentions; none of them. never have, never will
b) everything they say is a lie; only fools believe what they say. watch what they do
c) power; they want it, any means necessary
d) lockdowns give them power
e) shutting down businesses, gives them power
f) issuing tickets to people in the park, gives them power
What you have seen for the past 16, 18 months the world over, is the naked and unapologetic lust for power by the people you “elected”.
“They understand ‘the science’ as a term of power they can deploy …” the only sentence that hit upon any fact in the whole piece.
Bang Fking on….Kevin.
…IN its Entirety.
And its not just your / “our” Politicians, it’s their Entire UNIONIZED MARXIST Civil Service at all 3 levels with the MSM being their Echo Chamber.
Even down to the slugs working in a Costco liquor store, enthusiastically ENFORCING a mask mandate. “Sir YOU must pull you mask OVER you nose”..!! in a totally belligerent voice.
I was in the Canadian Army for over 20 years. There was a lot of nuclear, BIOLOGICAL, and chemical warfare training, with annual refresher training. I also worked often with members of the Royal Canadian Regiment, whose unofficial motto is ‘never pass a fault’. Since I retired from the Army 13 years ago, I’ve worked in retail. I hate wearing the crap as much as anyone else, but when I see people come into my store improperly outfitted I do kick in with the voice of authority. I’m hoping I’ve saved lives. If you can’t wear your gear properly, just stay home.
Rmgk…FUCK OFF already
If you haven’t lived in a full charcoal-infused NBC suit with gas mask, rubber gloves and boots for over 24 hours straight, in the middle of summer, having to go through full decontamination drills anytime you want a drink of water or have to take a leak, I have no sympathy for you, just because you’re too full of yourself to pull a paper mask over your nose. UFO!
I’ve been around my share of hazardous environments in the oil business, so I know what it’s like to be in proximity with something that can injure or even kill me. Ever hear of sour gas?
This business of pulling masks over one’s nose (something airport JBTs are fond of braying) is complete horse puckey. For one thing, if such a move is to be effective, that portion of one’s face needs to be completely sealed off, which just about every mask that people are using doesn’t do.
I could go on about it, but I don’t have the time to go into explaining aspects of fluid mechanics or probabilities to make my point.
Let me help you, BA.
I am going to apply the technical elements of current face mask theory to exclude mosquitos from my patio. I’m erecting a chain-link fence when the weather warms up a bit!
Rmgk – Another brain dead fool.
The masks are dehumanizing. They are not healthy ( inhaling your own bacteria), bad for the environment, and they do little to stop transmission of the virus. It is not surprising that people resent having to wear them.
I understand that nobody likes to wear a useless mask. Of course the masks are crap, but if you got to wear them, you got to do it proper. And when I have to wear it, or not work, I’ll do it the most effective (truly useless) way that my bosses expect. I’ve given them shit regularly too. “LoneRanger…stranger to danger!”
And I’d be willing to meet any of you critics on the 2-way range.
But those of you who whine and ridicule people for wearing them are just snowflakes…or maybe icebergs if you’re senior! I’ve even made one snowflake at work cry in a debate!
In fact, you guys – GYM & LR – are just like Socialist free-speechers, who support free speech so long as it agrees with THEIR free speech; or pro-choicers, who will support pro-choice, until they come across a pro-lifer!
These are not soldiers wearing gear, still less soldiers under your command. These are free citizens of a community not under occupation, who want to do business with your boss. Either your boss or your mayor has decided, for no good reason, to require people to wear masks before they can discuss business. These people could have said, “to hell with that”, but instead they said, “I still want to do business”. Shouldn’t you be kissing their feet? Instead you’re bellowing at them like a bully. And you think you’re saving lives! Think about saving your job, shithead.
A long read, but worth it, is this 100+ page article by the late Christopher Booker:
“Global Warming: A case study in group think”

Our masters are only interested in science as a means of removing threats to their rule.
Robotics and computer science, to them, are mostly tools by which the human proletariat may one day be replaced and liquidated once and for all. Robots will make far better New Socialist Men than humans ever have.
Space exploration is a means for them to escape Earth after socialism has poisoned it beyond all hope of redemption, leaving the remaining proles to drown in their masters’ shit.
The only scientists on earth who are left to get on with their jobs free from political interference work for Red China’s weapons of mass destruction programs. Their job is to find ways to kill blue-eyed devils on an industrial scale. The Politburo and their friends in the West want that job done right.
Ah, but isn’t this the same “science” that uses there-are-more-than-one-right-answer mathematics?
The Lockdowns Weren’t Worth It
There’s a reason no government has done a cost-benefit analysis: The policy would surely fail.

L – This is behind a paywall, but the trend of speaking out against a gov’t. “cure that is worse
the disease is growing. “Trust but verify” (Ronald Reagan) said as advice in dealing with
Marxist tyranny of the Soviet Union, is applicable to government institutions in the West
whose degree of political and moral corruption is astounding. Only massive suppression
of freedom of information allowed this to go on for so long. Again political and moral
corruption of Social Media and the bought and paid for MSM is a greater threat to
Western liberal democracies that the military might of China, Russia and political Islam.
The first law of politics and morality. Make it a meme, an irrepressible meme.
“Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely” – Lord Acton
The current political scum is nothing new, been there done that.
Very well said years ago before the politicians of today vastly improved their corruption.
Lewis Namier (1888-1960) argued in his masterwork The Structure of Politics at the Accession of George III that talk of great battles of principle between the Whigs and Tories of Hanoverian England was nonsense. Ministers were in politics for the money and to advance the interests of their cliques. MPs who boasted of their independence were forever seeking favours from the public purse. Ideology mattered so little that ‘the political life of the period could be fully described without ever using a party denomination’.

Ain’t that the truth….
If you have time, read the whole article.
The resemblance to real life is clearly uncanny.
Just picture a politician, provincial or federal, saying “No need for masks, lockdowns or any business closures or restrictions at all now, now we can all go back to normal.”
It ain’t gonna happen.
Randy Hillier (provincial) and Derek Sloan (federal), as a start. Noem, DeSantis, Abbott…they are out there, they are saying it, but the MSM won’t let you hear it.
Take a moment to consider the individual standing in place against the tide as it sweeps in swallowing everything in its path. Now imagine yourself taking that stand.

“If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?”
― Frédéric Bastiat, The Lawson
Yep
Politically and administratively, a lockdown is the easiest (and laziest) course of action. With only a stroke of a pen, multitudes of little emperors, cheered on by the media and government unions, spring into action to fulfill their destiny and bring down the wrath of the state on anything and everything that moves.
How can any politician resist making such a ‘difficult’ decision?
Good article.
I agree with Kevin.
Heads on spikes is the only sane response.
Government policy became “Silence ,I kill you” so fast we missed it.
Their position is that “The Dread Covid” is so dangerous to society, that they must prevent us catching it,even if they have to kill us(to prevent us contracting this dreaded flu that kills 0.02?
of those who become infected..).
Then they did the vaccine ritual dance, which has now failed and moved on to the “Deadly Third Variant”
The last 13 months have been a true revelation.
Reality has spoken.
The parasitic Overload,is clueless, useless and a deadly danger to freedom.
They betrayed every rational ever given for their very existence..
But still they bleat;”Respect Muh Authority” and “We are here to help you”.
As for the politicians??
Utterly craven poll chasers..toss the lot.
The Dread Covid has shown their worth, only a tiny minority even attempted to defend the citizens rights, freedoms and lives..The rest proudly showed us their “Hall Monitor” credentials as often as possible.
Time to make “Local representative” a conscription task.
For clearly those who seek power are totally unfit to hold it.
Far better to conscript from those citizens with skin in the game,to whom the civic institutions have meaning and value.
No Parasites Allowed, will be much preferable to All Parasites All the Time.
This is coming true, despite being “debunked”:

“They have also made it very clear that nothing will stop the planned outcomes.”
Anybody talking about that months ago was written off as barking mad.
But, I’m sorry to say, there will be more than enough sheeple getting into line to have their debts cancelled, the ownership of their possessions revoked now and forever, and their freedoms gladly handed over.
