France’s Macron reeling as tough stance against ‘yellow vests’ backfires

What began as a grassroots rebellion against diesel taxes and the high cost of living has morphed into something more perilous for Macron – an assault on his presidency and French institutions.
 
The anti-government protesters on Saturday used a forklift truck to force their way into a government ministry compound, torched cars near the Champs Elysees and in one violent skirmish on a bridge over the Seine punched and kicked riot police officers to the ground.

    1. It is a foolish leader who identifies himself so closely with the country that he claims that an attack on him is an attack on the country itself.
      Much like our Dear Leader, who defines “what Canadians believe” by what he believes.
      Or defines “Canadian values” by what he deems important (or unimportant, such as Working White Males).
      Or claims anybody who voices disagreement with his actions is “playing the politics of divisiveness” and “dividing Canadians”. As if HE is the embodiment of Canada.
      When he was leader of the Opposition (I believe the issue was abortion, and this is a paraphrase….) he said, “This is what the Liberal Party believes. I know that because this is what I believe.”
      That was when he was leader (in name) of the LPC. Now the he is leader (in name) of the country, he seems to have extended this to all Canadians.
      And the compliant media dances along oh, so willingly.
      How are the French Media covering their current issues? Are they taking the same tack ours are – that this is just a few alt-righters?

    Translation: the people who lend Macron money to pay the big men with guns would not allow him to do the right thing and recognize the sovereignty of the French people even if he cared to.

    Beijing, Berlin and the bankers hired former investment banker Macron to foreclose on France, no matter what it took. If France’s creditors have any say in the matter, peaceful reform is impossible, and violent revolution inevitable.

    Sonething similar happened in 1789, except in those days France didn’t have a Muslim fifth column to worry about.

  4. There is the propaganda from the media cartel paid for by the Liberal fascist government that is working very hard, at least in Alberta, implying that the yellow jackets are something sinister.
    The truckers that are planning to invade Ottawa were asked these questions by the media cartel if they are connected with the yellow jackets.
    It is quite obvious that they are trying to divide and conquer the opposition to the “pollution” tax, as the * is wont to say.

    There is your media cartel and the government coordinating the propaganda effort.

    As far as the reports go, those people are against the “pollution” tax. That is how the * in Ottawa calls it.

    Talked to in-law that happens to be from France though he is a Canadian citizen, I think, he seems to think there is more to it.

    Not being a French speaker, don’t know what the deal is.

      1. I caught a bit of Windbag Messily’s show The Weakly yesterday while I was waiting in an airport departure lounge. Unfortunately, there was no sound and the captions were hard to read, but it was quite obvious that it was yet another Trump-bashing session. The only thing he wasn’t accused of being was the anti-Christ, but I’m sure next week’s edition will do just that.

        As is her typical behaviour, she had a “I’m smarter than you bumpkins” smirk on her face.

  5. Anybody here realize that the yellow vests are attacking Macron from the Left? Is it any wonder why the protests are so violent.

    I don’t care what the cause is, or whether or not I sympathize with the movement. THERE IS NO CAUSE OR JUSTIFICATION FOR VIOLENCE, particularly to this degree.

      Please explain how we might reduce the size and theft of government when the takers outnumber the makers?

      1. Hyperbole aside…something does seem to be happening. We are clearly in late-stage Canada now with no real political options left.

    6. From what I saw live, the violence was started by the state. They were quite liberal in their application of preemptive tear gas and pepperballs while the protests were still peaceful. They are growing more violent in reaction to Macrons oppressive desperation.

  6. In essence … Macron came out after the New Year and called the Yellow Vesters … Deplorable.

    Bad move. Did he learn NOTHING from Trump’s election? Brexit? The vast majority of the people he dismisses as unintelligent, racist, scientific illiterates … you name it … are NOTHING of the sort. When allowed (or forced) to focus on exactly WHAT the self-proclaimed; superior, elite, governments and NGO’s are DOING to France … these “common folk” are more than intelligent enough to “get it”. And they DO … “get it”. The elites (Macron) are ready for their beheading … seem to be begging for their beheadings.

      China needs dirt-cheap fossil fuels to continue to grow its economy at double-digit rates and be in a position to defeat the United States in war and conquer the west within a generation. That isn’t compatible with continued economic growth (and energy demand) in the west.

      We are to be starved to feed the dragon until he is strong enough to roast our children alive in one firey breath and then feast on charred human flesh.

  10. Remember why Japan started WWII? It was because the U.S. controlled oil exports to Asia and were choking their energy supply. So why would Americans willingly give up such huge strategic power to their stupid junior northern neighbour? If Canada’s allowed to sell to Asia directly the U.S. loses more strategic control over China’s energy access. Something they won’t let happen. Period. Desperate is as desperate does.

  12. Only when the people demonstrate that they are willing to fight, to spill blood, is there a chance that someone might start to listen. I actually do not think France is quite to the point of someone listening yet, but they are waaayyyy closer than we are with Moe and Notely, and Horgan, and Trudeau.

    Canada has no one who has actually started fighting yet. The US has Trump, and the world acted like they got cold cocked by Mike Tyson in his glorious prime. At least the snowflake part of the world did.

    You keep obeying the law, and keep watching while Trudeaus get elected.
