You can watch any number of foreign language films with running closed captions, in case one doesn’t understand french, or a host of other languages.

They kind of already do. My lady fair and true is from the Hindi region of Pakistan, and a ton of the Bollywood rom-coms made for the domestic market reference family members who live in Canada. I auditioned for a Bollywood film made for the Indian market but being shot in Toronto this summer.
It is time for the French language, arts and culture in Canada to support itself. It’s also time for English language, arts and culture to support itself. With modern technology Canadians can and should be able to access whatever entertainment they prefer with their own money and without government interference. State sponsored art and entertainment is generally 2nd rate anyway because the artist/producer doesn’t have to appeal to consumers, they just have to be able to check off a bunch of diversity boxes in a bureaucratic checklist and/or have a political connection.
Our local high school got rid of mandatory French classes a couple of years back. I’m not sure if they even offer it because when they did a survey the most requested second language was Finnish. The private high school offers Spanish and I personally think that Spanish would be a more useful language to learn.
Its never been appropriate to call the french language industry imposed by Peeair the Jesuit turd as some kind of cultural life preserver, that is not what the french language industry is about and that was never its intention. The french language industry has always been a tool of division, a racket, a bigoted extortion racket worthy of the Mafia set up for the exclusive benefit of the french talking Quebecer. What kind of so called “culture” relies on the extortion of another culture to pay for its further existence? Too bad the charade of franco “Quebec separation” wasn’t a real threat rather than the shake down that it has always been. The Liberal Party are Globalists, Trudopia is a “post national State” so get with the program francs. Not that franco supremacists won’t continue to receive some kind of payoffs from the Libranos, of course they will, gotta pay for those votes.
Would it be asking too much for subscribers to English services to support English TV and subscribers to French services to support French TV. The whole problem is because half the French people prefer English TV instead of la langue morte.
