  1. While our media fawn over bongo and criticize Trumps every move, bongo continues to tweet as recklessly as any leader unabated. A fool by any measure.

3,700-year-old Babylonian tablet rewrites the history of maths – and shows the Greeks did not develop trigonometry
… unlike today’s trigonometry, Babylonian mathematics used a base 60, or sexagesimal system, rather than the 10 which is used today. Because 60 is far easier to divide by three, experts studying the tablet, found that the calculations are far more accurate.

Trump’s New Strategy For Afghanistan Is Neither New, Nor A Strategy, Nor Trump’s
Aside from a few Trumpish rhetorical flourishes, it was a speech that could have been given by President Hillary Clinton or President Jeb Bush. In substance, it was a rehash of the failures of Barack Obama and George W. Bush. Only a few details changed. He will loosen rules of engagement for U.S. forces, which among other things will mean more dead Afghans and more Taliban recruits. He will boost troop numbers but won’t tell the enemy – or the American people – by how many; the number 4,000 has been kicked around, but who knows. Finally, no timetables will «guide our strategy», just «conditions on the ground», but what those conditions need to be for us to finally get out are not described either. Nor is there any clue as to how boosting American numbers to about 13,000 will accomplish what 100,000 couldn’t.
One of the problems with being entirely guided by military men is their tendency to focus on their tactical tradecraft. Hopefully that’s something they’re good at. But their knowledge and skill, though vitally important, doesn’t of itself constitute a strategy. Or put another way, professional military men can tell a policymaker how to accomplish what he wants, but they can’t tell him what he wants. The result is a policy composed of various tactics that don’t add up to much of anything except more of what we’ve seen since 2001.

I mean, it’s not like you killed a US medic, is it?

  6. 3,700-year-old Babylonian tablet rewrites the history of maths – and shows the Greeks did not develop trigonometry
Let’s all go over to Athens and topple the Parthenon as the Greeks were guilty of cultural appropriation. Justice for the Babylonians!
I’m being sarcastic, of course. The origins of mathematics are lost in the mists of time. Maybe the Greeks heard of what the Babylonians did and developed it further. Maybe they came upon the concepts of trigonometry all by themselves.

  7. Maybe the Babylonians heard about it from someone else. The truth is everybody’s just really guessing. Sort of like postulating on the origin of the universe.

  8. Here is a dose of reality. Female Genital Mutilation is happening in Canada. (Anyone surprised?)
    https://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2017/08/24/fgm-survivor-speaks/
It looks like it is sometime male religious figures who impose conforming to these barbaric practices on the females in their communities, and the females are coerced into going along.
That explains why the immigrant women’s groups were asking for a “hot line” for many years. The Harper government promised to do something to help in these situations. Unthinkingly and viciously, the “hot line” was quickly labeled a “snitch line for neighbors” — which was utter nonsense. So badly misconstruing something to help immigrant women in this way was appalling.
The approach to dealing with these issues (forced marriage, honour killings and FGM) by the enlightened Liberals seems to be to ignore that there is a problem. I guess there are no barbaric crimes if you refuse to call them “barbaric”. Forced marriages also remain a problem in Canada and I am pretty sure we are not yet done with honour killings. The “snitch line” claim was one of the most nasty political attacks I have ever seen. I still get mad whenever I see a reference to that. And immigrant women from some countries remain vulnerable.

  9. The Liberals couldn’t kill the ‘snitch line’ fast enough as they know very well that two of their biggest constituencies are where most of the calls would have come from.
The Liberals don’t mind if ordinary people suffer,as long as the LPC gets the votes.
There are extant in Canada two ethnic groups in whose communities arranged marriages and honor killings are normal, and though one of said communities is breaking away from the old ways, the other is NOT.
It’s a metaphorical elephant that can’t be discussed today.
