  1. Marsupials got to Australia from South America by way of Antarctica. So ways Wiki. Question? When climate has constantly changed, why do we think we can actually do anything to stop change?

  2. That’s the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and out planet began to heal.

  3. Lol, like everything is climate change, except when it’s weather…
ResearchGate: Do you have any idea how these gene sequences that likely cause immunity developed?
Storfer: They already existed in the Tasmanian devil as part of their immune system.

  4. Off topic, but it NEEDS to be posted.
Trump was in Detroit just the past day. He was in the middle of getting very favorable coverage……but then someone can be heard saying “shut it down”. The cameraman can be heard refusing to shut it down, and the order goes out again – “shut it down”. Then the director comes on and tells he to turn the camera off. The camera can then be seen to be shaking, and the feed goes black just as Trump is receiving a blessing from an African-American clergyman. The feed was covered by Reuters, and there were many affiliates and domestic media that lost the feed as well.
We are living in momentous times, my friends. The main stream media is so desperate now, that they don’t even care if they are exposed. Unreal.

  5. As you noted, “They (the genes) already existed in the Tasmanian devil as part of their immune system.”
The next sentence is restatement of classic evolutionary theory …. as in Darwin’s Origin of Species Through Natural Selection:
“They increased in frequency due to natural selection. That is, the individuals with particular forms of these genes (alleles) survived and reproduced disproportionately to those that lacked the specific variants when disease was present.” ………… often shortened to “survival of the fittest”.
Interestingly, humans believe in this and frequently use it to breed every other animal and plant species except themselves.

  6. even with selective breeding there are “mistakes” and failures..
no one is allowed (publicly) to knock off human “mistakes”

  7. simple mathematics there, concentrations of the fittest increases as nature decreases those less able to survive, butt strad will think god did it:-)))

  8. Cut/paste from “The Oncologist 2011 Jan; 16(1): 1–4.”
As for the Tasmanian devils, researchers thought they might have found an individual named Cedric who possessed immunity to DFTD and could be a savior for the dwindling population. After initially inoculating Cedric and his half-brother Clinky with irradiated tumor cells, followed by injections with live tumor cells, Clinky rapidly succumbed to the cancer. However, Cedric produced antibodies and developed no tumors, prompting speculation about the existence of resistant animals. Unfortunately, in a follow-up study, Cedric was injected with a slightly different strain of DFTD and wound up developing tumors—dashing hopes of finding a resistant population. This was naturally demoralizing news for conservationists but confirmed that there are different strains of the tumor and it may be possible for an animal to be immune to one strain but not others.
I thought this interesting to note from my evening reading.
On a lighter note Hillery’s coughing a lot.

  9. “They increased in frequency due to natural selection.
But nothing new was created, it already existed…as they admit. Happens in humans all the time, the body becomes resistant to disease. The capability was always there, just needs a stimulant.
So far as, so-called, macro evolution…never been shown to exist except through theory and circular reasoning. The theory is used to prove the subjective interpretation of the fossils, and the subjective interpretation of the fossils is used to prove the theory.
And then there’s the problem of why it stopped, there should be a whole living line all the way from the swamps to the higher life forms…continuously evolving. Or explain why it stopped.

  10. I am not a creationist and yet I do not dispute the possibility of a higher being. I am not going to argue with you about “macro evolution” because to me it’s like arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. In my opinion, it’s a meaningless argument.
By education, I am a biologist. I have fallen away from it as the years have rolled on but I think the evidence for evolution is convincing. However, I note that there still is no way to explain the origin of life. Again, in my opinion, explanations today are not closer than they were 35 years ago in spite of the fantastic advances made in genetics and decoding/understanding DNA during that time. Oh, and there is still no real explanation of aging either……..

  11. …I think the evidence for evolution is convincing.
So, why did it stop? To be true there have to be a continuous living line of evolving creatures all the way from the swamps to the higher life forms…obviously just another theory using circular reasoning like AGW.

Apparently not so ‘meaningless’ to a bunch of people, they’ve been teaching it in the schools as fact for years.

  12. The fossil record is the only proof you need of macroevolution. Why do you assume it has stopped? We are not “peak evolution”

  13. Why do you assume it has stopped?
Uh, don’t see creatures crawling from the swamps, and a living line all the way from those creatures to the higher life forms showing each change along the way…should be a continuous process, or explain why it stopped.

  14. I doubt that these devils were actually going extinct. I expect they were just hiding in the details, as usual.

  15. A line wouldn’t prove that macro evolution exists. Rather it would be a tree. A massive one with dead ends everywhere. One that would accelerate when climate changes.
    Something like the fossil record.

  16. Most of the ‘facts’ are coloured through the subjective interpretations of the lense of theory.
    Circular reasoning…
Rather it would be a tree. A massive one with dead ends everywhere.
Obviously there has to be a ‘trunk’ to feed the branches…
