There’s nothing quite like amateur choral monophony for stripping a melody of all melisma, clever phrasing, personalization, and other such rearrangements. When a unison melody passes through the filter of non-consultative collective assessment of what the tune is, all that’s left is a shared, modest, and mutually understood pact with the beauty of music itself: This, we and the songwriter agree, is how the song goes.
Exhibit A: The Langley Schools Music Project’s mid-70s rendition of Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline.

  1. You might click on down and hear them do “God only Knows” Amateurs, yes, but what a sound.

You’ll be relieved to learn this mischievous young rascal was not instantly deported back to Saudi Arabia — though being sentenced to 40 hours community service and “anger management” class seems harshly draconian, don’t you think?

  3. What would we do without the CBC!! Guess what?? The Liberals are saying that it’s Harper’s fault if the Canadian manufacturing sector (IE: Ontario auto manufacturing) is in trouble!
Check out this photo caption!! ”Economist Mike Moffat, who advises the Liberal Party on policy, says the tone of the internal Industry Canada report is at odds with the government’s public statements.”
Like, would the labour unions and six month long strikes of the 60’s and 70’s maybe have had something to do with that??

  4. Kudos to Harper government for saying they will not for now lift sanctions on Iran and will judge Iran by its actions not its words.

“The left around the world has responded to the vote with thunderous applause—and is selling the results as a vote for “the little guy.”
The Greeks believed that voting against the debt restructuring plan would give them more leverage with the banks, the IMF and the EU. But what happens now in Greece?”

“When you’ve recovered from your nausea, ask yourselves this: What kind of country do we live in where law-abiding businesses are fined, threatened and demonized for refusing to bake gay wedding cakes, but barbaric baby butchers are hailed by feminists, Hollywood and a president who asked God to “bless” them?
Hannibal Lecter ain’t got nothing on the profit-maximizing abortion ghoul caught on tape hawking aborted baby parts as she swilled wine and nibbled on a gourmet salad.”

  7. Thanks for the link Maz2. That wench hocking fetal body parts as she chomped and sipped was a revolting, disgusting thing to watch and should be used as an eye opener for all who support it. The part about having to know what part of the fetal body was wanted so they wouldn’t damage that part in the process was most disturbing. If there is a Hell some of these people should see it.

  8. “Braid: Is Notley handing Quebec a veto over Energy East pipeline?”
We’re gonna veto the Energy East pipeline. It’s not our call (federal jurisdiction) but we’re gonna “veto” it. Quebec and Alberta are going to work together on that. Sure they will; and Harper will go along with what they say too. Well, no. Oh, wait, if we elect Mulcair it’s done – our green road to prosperity will be set with destruction of the oil industry, higher carbon and corporate/payroll taxes, and big Labour type government. That’s the only way we can change a prosperous, I mean broken, Canada. Decrease demand for labour (with the added bonus of job killing 50% minimum wage hikes) and increased inflation with higher and higher taxation and diving productivity. That always works right, for instance, during the ZimBobRae regime in ON – remember how they spent themselves “rich?”
Hint: The AB NDP is clearly unelectable even now and as they continue with their idiotic watermelon policies, via out of province anti-enviro wacovists, they are going to trigger a very negative political backlash – except in Edmonton apparently, according to the intelligentsia. Wait until the voters get a load of these jokers and their fix Canada policies.
Who knew shutting down entire industries and subjecting a national economy to crushing taxation and regulation policies was good for the economy? We’ll be leading more “sustainable” lifestyles (aka poorer), so we won’t feel guilty about our climate injustices. Our “emissions” will fall so we can show Kyoto leadership. Clearly voters are ready for that “change,” they always warm up to tax hikes, especially in Alberta with Notley doubling carbon taxes which they accidentally “forgot” to include in their platform. No problem, Prentice did that too so it’s OK for them.
Idiots. Harper will mop the floor with these dolts. As an aside, that commercial of Wynne jogging is really cheesy. Typical dear leader complex at work there. I had the misfortune of viewing it last night – my condolences to the people of Ontario.
