Happy Flag Day

Good Enough for Gov’t Work

The level of “I don’t give a darn” necessary for that mistake to happen is chin-level. When it comes to the public-sector, I’m a ‘broken-window’ type of person. Fire them. Yeah…firing someone is a little harsh.

  1. Is it “I don’t give a darn” or was it “poke a finger in Harper’s eye”?
This seems more like the latter. I can’t imagine where I would find an Austrian flag, even if I wanted one, so this can’t be an “oops, oh well”.

  2. Fire them.
Who should be fired? The unionized fool who actually erected the flag or the management fool who trusted the unionized fool to do it right or the elected fool who …

  3. Can we not all take a moment and celebrate as well the contributions of Austria to the development of the Canadian identity? Why must everything be about Canada? Point #1; Belinda Stronach’s father was born in Austria. Point #2; ??? I’ll get back to you on that. b

  4. So confusing when the colors are the same….
What does it matter anyway, as the government is bringing in more and more people from Islamic states, the least of our worries should be an Austrian flag.

  5. You’re right, of course, Gord.
Call it the, ‘too little coffee and desperately looking for content’ problem.
Firing people is a little harsh.

  6. I am in favour of firing public sector bureaucrats under any circumstances and for any excuse, for any reason, whenever it’s possible.

  7. Hm, the Austrians use the colors of the LPC, too. I didn’t know that.
I’d like the flag a lot more IF Pearson had put one blue stripe in there, instead of all Liberal colors.

  8. Off topic a bit but speaking of government workers, the federal workers in Washington DC got the day off due to a storm that dropped a horrendous(being sarcastic) 15 cm on them. Schools were closed as well.

  9. Here in the U.S. of A we celebrated Presidents Day which at one time we had the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Linclon off as seperate holidays but that did’nt satisfi the union leaders and liberal demac-RATS

  10. Austrian Anschluss with Canada; who knew?

  11. People, people, people…where’s your sense of history?
Albert Street is named for Queen Vic’s husband Albert, prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, which is near Austria; well sort of near Austria.
No doubt some historically-minded public works employee intended this as an homage to Albert and just couldn’t come up with the right flag.

  12. Union tool management fool; they all have the same work ethic. It’s typically 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. It’s a symbiotic relationship.

  14. Perhaps this is the connection.
On June 28, 1914, a group of conspirators from the revolutionary movement called Mlada Bosna (‘Young Bosnia’) carried out the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian heir presumptive, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife while they were visiting Sarajevo. Since the assassin, Gavrilo Princip and his 5 accomplices were Bosnian Serbs, the Dual Monarchy accused Serbia to stand behind the assassination. The event triggered the course of events that directly led to the outbreak of World War I but it did not cause it. Austria-Hungary was determined to eliminate the ‘Serbian threat’ before the assassination of its heir presumptive and it only needed an excuse to declare war on its Balkan neighbor.

  15. Fire ’em all. Govt ‘workers’ are a double tap on us. They contribute nothing but cost us plenty. And next time one of them tells you, in response to your complaint about taxes, that he/she ‘pays taxes too’, remind him/her that since you fund the paycheck, you in fact are paying those taxes. Their eyes will first glaze over, and then the fun starts.
