  1. Pot activists in Canada are celebrating today, thanks to the residents of three jurisdictions in the United States who voted in favour of liberalizing marijuana laws.
    ….
The Liberal Party — the only major political party in Canada committed to legalizing marijuana — also seemed pleased with the results.
“Last night, voters in Oregon, Alaska, and Washington, D.C. expressed their democratic will and supported the legalization of marijuana,” a party spokesperson told Yahoo Canada News.
“A well-regulated, legal system for marijuana access promotes public safety, keeps profits out of the hands of gangs, and helps keep drugs out of the hand of children — exactly what Liberals have been saying all along.”

It’s been a while since anyone in Barack Obama’s inner circle dared make a claim that bold. Still, until Tuesday, many were insisting the President’s cachet was a plus for Democrats.”

  9. Nobody agrees with Rush 100% of the time, or 80% of the time or 40% of the time. You may not even agree with some of the stuff that Rush said in the folowing screed.
You may possibly agree that it has certain force of relentless truth.
Here is how to argue your point without fear of being called all those things that socialists, fascists, communists and other ‘ists will throw your way.

  10. It’s a real shame that all those Siberian Mastodons are being hunted to extinction to satisfy the Chinese demand for ivory. Oh, wait….

  11. Andrew Coyne, known for the good, the bad and now the ugly:
    http://www.canada.com/life/Coyne+Exposing+inequities+income+splitting/10356896/story.html
“A family in which one spouse earns, say, $100,000 will pay thousands more in tax than a family with two spouses earning $50,000 each. This violates a fundamental principle of tax fairness: that “like should be treated as like …. a stay-at-home spouse is a household manager. She or he handles cooking, cleaning, laundry, bill-paying, household repairs and maintenance, child sports and activities. … If the household manager is perceived to have any value at all, the simple $100,000/$0 comparison to $50,000/$50,000 breaks down.”
How about a calculation of $50,000 or $60,000 a year, the level of income at which the maximum tax benefits tops out. Sound fair?
Perhaps we could do a minimum wage calculation and let them split that. No wait, let’s add a schedule to the family tax return (remember Andrew they’re taxed as a family) where the spouse, he or she or course, can indicate the amount of time spent with each of the well, stay-at-home tasks, then CRA can hire a new department to analyze the schedule to determine the maximum splittable amount.
The pre-estimate of the cost of this new department will be approximately $2000 per return.

  13. Regarding Andrew Coyne’s article on income splitting. His inner Karl Marx quite often shows up in his articles. There should be no families in his world with one parent working and one staying at home. All must be cogs in the socialist machine.

  14. Sweet God Almighty, here we go again with the “folks” someone is getting too much coaching from Obama peeps down south.
“Look, folks, it’s 2014. It’s time that this workplace, like other workplaces across the country, had a process whereby these issues can be aired and dealt with,” Trudeau said.
“It is extremely important that we make it very clear that as an institution we will protect and encourage people who come forward with serious allegations of this type.”
Mulcair had a different take on his duty.
“We have a right to a safe workplace and that includes Parliament. Women should not have to worry about these things and, if they do have the courage to talk to those around them, we have an obligation to respect their wishes as stated,” he said.
