This Is Awkward

Colby Cosh;

Ghomeshi was offered a chance to walk away, go across the street, and find a comfortable cage in a drive-time Morning Zoo. Some people were initially impressed that he refused to do this and went on Facebook to burn the world’s entire supply of bridges instead. It sort of looked like integrity, if you squinted.

And now there’s a name.

  1. Jian Ghomeshi >
With a name like Jian Ghomeshi it’s not “rape’ “rape” in Canada.
Only a Mohamed would trump. That’s when you can get away with EVERYTHING.
He should consider converting to Islam, it comes with perks including 72 virgins to abuse and rape.

  2. While I quite enjoy this whole spectacle as a great example of progressive infighting, I do worry that this whole Gomeshi thing will set some kind of subjective legal precedent.
And anyone who has an orgasm over a 0.06% drop in someone else’s popularity needs to get away from the computer.

  3. He should have told his bosses he’s into gay BDSM, they would have quietly promoted him…
Back at York University when he told me to call him ‘John’ because he didn’t think I could pronounce his ‘exotic’ first name, he spoke like a true uber-liberal preppy douchebag filled with concern for the plight of women and minorities etc. etc. He said he cried when the Berlin Wall came down for example.
    Typical hypocrite liberal.

  4. Knight 99 “He should consider converting to Islam, it comes with perks including 72 virgins to abuse and rape.”
He’s Persian. He came from an Islamic culture, whatever he is. They execute women for being raped.

  5. I remain totally skeptical about this. Modern H. sapiens females are not delicate flowers. I imagine that most could take out of a middle-aged out-of-shape male. Most could outrun him. There are usually bottles and knives around, as well; and every well-dressed woman should have a cute little pistol (but loaded) in her purse.
And then there are the martial arts. Women should study them. Of my three immediate female colleagues all three are proficient in them. Two are slight, but now face the biggest Newf male with equanimity. One has attained to black belt status.
Whatever is said to be going on with Ghomeshi is totally unnecessary.

  6. What’s the point? Really? 71 people unliked his little sex talk page already. 71. That’s like more than 70 you know. /sarc

  7. In a culture where wholesome games like Grand Theft Auto are top sellers I am shocked and appalled that sex and violence are somehow intertwined… I am equally shocked that attractive young women are, like moths to a flame, attracted to older “stars” or media personalities. What is the world coming to when young women think they can get ahead on their backs or knees? In honour of these poor, oh so innocent, young souls perhaps Mr. Gomeshi should be gagged and flogged…

  8. Me bad, with a surname like Ghomeshi I “ass-umed” that he was South Asian, probably with a Hindu ancestry.
A little name search only because I care for accuracy shows that he is of Iranian decent, and most probably already under Canada’s most privileged and protected Muslim class.
Wikipedia lists him amongst Canada’s Liberal Asian Canadian community, along with David Suzuki and Olivia Chow.
With a pedigree like that, why should he even bother suing?
The just need to make a shrine in Ottawa with his statue and Canadians will lay flowers and money at his feet.

  9. Yes it is a small percentage. At the rate shown in the graph (only 17 minutes) it would take 18 days for him to hit 0.
It’s more accurate to take both axis into account.
And in the end it’s irrelevant.
$55 million my ass. Not another penny for this tax siphoning proghole.
    Good riddance to him.

  10. Wow what tripe. In your world, if women don’t carry loaded guns or learn martial arts, if they get attacked, they have to accept part of the blame for not being elusive enough to evade the groping hands. Have you ever asked yourself why your female colleagues feel the need to learn martial arts, and carry knives and broken glass in their purses when they come to work with you.

  11. I’m reserving judgment. The Star has been building this case for far too long for it to be credible that one victim came forward and now a bunch of others are spontaneously appearing. Their stories are way too similar in details and structure for comfort; they look coached. And the police still haven’t been involved.
Ghomeshi’s an unctuous, self-righteous twat – I met him once – but his thesis that a vindictive ex is trying to get back at him isn’t immediately risible. If nothing else, the number of young women outright admitting that they dated him in exchange for career advancement isn’t helping their case.

  12. Yes, tripe-brains, they learn martial arts for defense. They don’t, Oh Tripe, carry broken glass. Knives I don’t know.
As for “your world”, it is rotten with violence. Go off and fester somewhere.

  13. John Lewis >
I don’t agree with you opinion, as I believe women in our society should not need to become martial arts experts or a Hollywood style heroine in order to protect themselves.
    -But-
I do agree that certain women who lobby for gun control, open borders, mass Islamic immigration, etcetera have brought their own “victim status” on themselves and on any other women who have been harmed by these Liberal values and efforts.
For example, why isn’t Wendy Cukier held accountable each time a woman is raped or murdered when in all likelihood she could have saved her own life with a concealed carry firearm?
If Wendy Cukier is raped or badly assaulted one night in her home, with plenty of entry warning, and a slow police response, is she really a victim because she did not arm herself?
For certain, she is a victimizer of other women by actively helping to legislate women from defending themselves.

  14. A grown man having a teddy bear in his bedroom should be enough to alert women that they’re perhaps dealing with a disturbed person.

  15. This is becoming another Tiger Woods story. I think it’s a power thing in both cases where they think they can keep going about their ways and no one says anything because of who they are, their money and their status.
Individually, each woman’s story holds little water and they can be brushed off and disposed of, which is what these guys count on. But when numerous women all start coming out of the woodwork at once sharing similar experiences, they can bring these guys down to THEIR knees.
I’m no fan of the Red Star, but I applaud them for sniffing the smoke here, and outing this two-faced, holier-than-thou, lefty creep… or more accurately, help him in outing himself.

  16. As far as I’m concerned, the most satisfying aspect of this gong-show is that one of the two poles of the axis of disinformation — The Toronto Star — is beating up on the other — the CBC. Faster, please, and harder (pun not, er, intended).
I initially thought, “what a pity they both can’t lose”, as someone said the other day on the previous thread, but I’m sort of minded now to think that maybe they both could: there’s been a fair amount of criticism of the Star’s usual salacious reporting of anonymous sources, and the CBC looks pathetically ridiculous, as in circling-the-drain pathetically ridiculous (they had their pants pulled down in public over the loss of their most popular television show, and now they’re having their pants pulled down in public over the loss of their most popular radio show; keep up the good work!).
Now if we could only get some of the other points on the axis (the Globe and Mail, CTV news and Stephen Maher, for instance) hurling accusations at one another, we’d have a really good monster mash, which I’m pretty sure would be a graveyard smash, just in time for Halloween.
Finally, as far as the main protagonist in this circus is concerned, his appeal, it seems to me, is to the same, um, demographic element of society as Justin Trudeau’s. Without being too hard on the old bobby socks-ers, they may want to pause and reflect on whether there might be a learning point or two for them here. Not that I’m suggesting that Mr. Trudeau, Jr. is anywhere near as brutal as this guy, or as clever.

  17. I am a middle-aged, out of shape male. A friend of mine has a twenty-something radfem lesbian acquaintance who has a black belt and thinks she can kick any man’s ass because feminism, or something. When I expressed skepticism, she challenged me to a fight.
It didn’t end well for her. Then again, she’s 5’1″ and female, and I’m 6’2″ and male, and I’ve been in the occasional scrap that didn’t take place in a dojo.
Firearms are the great equalizer. Absent a CCW, a woman is no match for a man in a physical confrontation and the contrary opinion is stupid and dangerous to women.

  18. I see those Muslims who did the Islamophobia video in Hamilton that ended badly are all from York University.

  19. It suddenly occurred to me that this Ghomeshi business explains why Obama got elected twice: a large portion of the female population are attracted to losers.
This lines up perfectly with my observations over a very long period, going all the way back to high-school. Those “likes” that you see on his Facebook page are almost all women, I’m willing to bet.
When you see of all people Christie Blatchford of the National Post defending this bottom dweller then you must agree I have a point.

  20. The best thing you can say to a former fan of his is:
“Well I guess morality does matter after all then eh?”

  21. Much ado about nothing, is all I can say, but then again, the titillating exploits of celebs (even minor CBC wonks)is enough for the average Canuck to drool. Hell, Rob Ford even got to the world stage by his messed up personal life, not by fiscal leadership.
Still amazed at the amount of “me too” pile on that is coming out of the woodwork.

  22. Daniel Ream >
    “Firearms are the great equalizer.”
    Indeed they are!
Against all aggressors – even better than the “mutually assured destruction” by nuclear weapons that our governments care to brag about as a deterrent to war.
An “equally armed” society is a polite society, every bit as much as good fences make good neighbors.

  23. I always thought Moxie Fruvous was a truly terrible band, and this mess is the CBC’s karmic comeuppance for being such enthusiastic pushers of that recorded Nembutal all these many years. But the thing that stands out for me in this whole tawdry affair is the report that one of Ghomeshi’s female colleagues at CBC actually complained to her boss after Jian told her he wanted to “hate-f*ck” her, and CBC did nothing. That should have been grounds for immediate dismissal – or, at least, it would have been at any non-union shop with a sexual harassment policy. Anyway, enough on this prat and his pratfall. His 15 minutes of fame are up.

  24. With the exception of the elites south of Bloor 98% of Canadians never heard of this creep

  25. Jimmy Savile North or Rotherham North?
What ever it is the CBC will hide it just like the BBC did.

  26. Ghomeshi is one sick SOB.
If he escapes criminal prosecution he should consider himself lucky. As for the cbc they were willing to engage in a cover up trying to protect themselves and the sicko until things became so toxic they had to throw him under the bus.
The media has been pissing their pants about this. One of their own oxen is being gored. Even the Nat Post has had pictorials of the creep and puff pieces by Jonathan Kay suggesting what a guy Gyawn is.

  27. “….he should consider himself lucky”/
He should, but instead he’ll consider himself entitled.
    I’m sorry was I stereotyping?

  28. I couldn’t care any less about Jian Ghomeshi, having never heard of the guy before and surely to forget his name next week.
I do however have a problem with misleading graphs. If one included zero on the y axis, then that graph is basically a straight horizontal line. It’s the same BS that makes the hockey stick temperature graph look like the temperature is increasing exponentially (include 0 Kelvin on the graph, and it’s once again a straight line). It isn’t acceptable when Michael Mann does it, and it isn’t acceptable when Paul Fairie does it.

  29. “I couldn’t care any less about Jian Ghomeshi, having never heard of the guy before …”
Aye, indeed. And with that Sir, you rest my case!

  30. The CEEB may actually have some liability here. If in fact a supervisor dismissed employee complaints about Mr Ghomsehi by saying try to make the workplace less toxic that would be really serious down here in California where all us racists and mysoginists live.

  31. So it would seem even his hired help has abandoned him. Jian’s reputation restoration team has realized there is no helping Jian’s reputation now. On a side note do you suppose it would be advisable to brand a “CHOKING HAZARD” onto his forehead?

  32. Now that someone has publicly made the same accusation, I tend more to believe that he is an extreme, violent jackass.
Unnamed sources never really work for me.

  33. Liberalism is a progressive disease.
Gomeshi is the perfect progressive, so “here’ to support the poor, defenceless types of this world in public.
    While in private.. Total hypocrite.
There is a “War on Women”. CBC style progressives are leading the charge.
When women realize who their real enemies are CBC will be defunded

  34. likely a camera in the teddy and what does one expect when he was schooled by the “Nature of Flings” CBC’s favorite lecherous creep.

  35. The most shocking thing about this post is discovering that CBC headquarters is adorned with Orwellian styled photos of Rick Mercer.

  36. And I expect there will be another and another and another.
One just has to dig a bit on the web to find out what this creep is all about.
What I don’t understand is why any women would find him in the least bit attractive.

  37. As a possible stepping stone to a lifetime sinecure at the CBC? The old casting couch gambit?

  38. Just wait until it comes out that higher ups at the CBC knew about this for quite some time and covered it up. It’s coming trust me.
