So, what decided the policy if it wasn’t $112,000?
Between 2006 and 2010, Justin Trudeau collected $112,500 from various unions for speaking fees. As a political candidate, it would have been illegal for unions to donate any money to him under federal electoral laws.
Trudeau has promised that Liberal Senators will work “hard to try and slow down, block, impede” Bill C-377 and he has promised to repeal it if it becomes law, should he become Prime Minister. At the same time, Trudeau is promising to increase transparency, yet is fighting a bill that would actually have seen unions have to disclose the $112,500 they paid him for his speeches.

Here is an opportunity for Harper to bolster contribution rules by putting forth legislation to ban these little side gigs.
Trudeau has upped his speaking fee since he became an MP. What would it have been since he became leader, had he not beenc caught and exposed?
He has taken money from unions such as a speech to CUPE, then ferociously attacks legislation trying to make unions more accountable. If all of this isn’t influence peddling, then what is?
What pisses me off to no end is that school boards have hired him to speak. As the school boards are funded by the taxpayer, we are in effect supporting him and the Liberal party.
If private interests are stupid enough to pay him to babble on about nothing, so be it, but
taxpayer’s hard earned dollars should be spent for what was intended.
And this is just one of the any reasons why I have nothing but contempt for liberals…
…. MANY ….
Conflict of interest is the honey of Liberals.
It’s the same situation at universities. He’s paid from student union dues that students are forced to pay.
“As the school boards are funded by the taxpayer, we are in effect supporting him and the Liberal party.”
The exposure sure hasn’t hurt either especially when you want to lead the nation and except for Sun news the msm refuses to see the conflict of interest inherent in the scam. Isn’t this what lead to Abscam? CBC radio this AM was all about the PMO and the mean Harper for pointing out Trudeau’s little game. Incredible really.
Rob Ford gets a day of rest. Thanks JT.
This just demonstrates the futility and immorality of campaign finance reform like the draconian $5,000 donation limit. Totally violates free speech and the money goes to the powerful anyway.
Did he get a bunch of “loans” he’ll never have to repay too?
L-ASS did joo go to school two larn to babble like an idiot, or is it natural talent???
there is NO moral issue too finance limitations, and there is a damn good reason for “low” limits
I would like to see that NO closed shop unions would be allowed to donate to or even verbally support any party or candidate, as they force ppl of all political stripes to pay, and then support those chosen by the union, that is not how democracy works, and the same should apply to publically traded corporations, as their stock holders may be of different political stripes, tho with corps. stock holders have a choice to divest themselves of their holdings
Whose idea was it for the unions to hire Justin, theirs or his?
Rhetorical question?
“Dance puppets, dance.”
As usual, the “old school” Trudeau Liberal Elites are the choreographers.
And the Bureaucrats they hired back in the day that are now in the upper ranks and almost untouchable.
Almost, I hope, if the political tides change a bit more to the right, maybe just maybe we can shut that back- channel down and stop the theft of a few more $$$.

“…What pisses me off to no end is that school boards have hired him to speak…”
Yup. Falling student enrollment; bloated salaries and employee rolls; crumbling buildings and abandoned technical training programs; but our school boards and colleges can shell out twenty grand a pop so that students can listen to a mincing driveller.
But no one gets angry, do they? No parents up in arms, no tax-payer groups protesting outside school board offices. It doesn’t matter what the issue is: muslim prayer-rooms in ‘secular’ schools; sex-ed for grade ones; or the abolition of Christmas Concerts, you can expect the same result: dull, dumb, Canadian acceptance.
Ghost of Arthur Ellis and Jamie MacMaster say it well. And now the star struck Shiny Pony media water carriers are trying to deflect the blame to the PMO.
What I’ve gotten out of your poorly written post is that you don’t respect freedom of speech or have an understanding of what free association means (or much else). Typical of your kind of soft-fascist.
By your metric, LAS, if you are a Christian Conservative who has to join the Union to teach in Ontario, is it ethical to have your union dues, which you have to pay in order to receive a teaching assignment and paycheck, used to finance a speaking engagement by the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada who is opposed to most of your fundamental beliefs and convictions?
The problem with the Unions is that they believe they have done the heavy lifting of negotiating the contracts with the Ontario (insert your own province here) Government (the Citizen’s Representatives) and they are just receiving their paychecks for doing this job, therefore they get to spend the money as they see fit, regardless of accountability to their members. This is democracy at it’s worst, as the members hand their rights and responsibilities over to a leadership of bullies, who have predetermined that the socialist mandate is their directive and the rights of the individual are ignored or intimidated into submission.
Try and speak up at a Union meeting and disagree or call for accountability within the leadership. How long have you until your tires suddenly have permanent non-repairable leaks develop or become bullied (ironic, as they are on-the-screech against this very thing) and ostracized by your co-workers?
When school boards are screaming to the government for shortfalls within the budget, and they are handing out $10-20K to hear somebody who is “popular” speak about something which most will forget within 2 glasses of wine at the reception, you will have to justify that to me and everyone else here.
Waiting for the dance…
Did Justin actually speak to them?
Or did he just stand up there and give them his version of Zoolander’s ‘Blue Steel’ pose?
When I see him I think Zoolander, but without the deep insights.
You be surprised how many union member actually want open books. Lots of people are frustrated by how the unions spend money on non-labour negotiation/law issues.
The problem is in government forcing workers to join unions and the existence of PSUs. Everything else is fair play.
And where did the Government get the idea that the workers had to join the Unions? The Union laden and beholden MP’s. They have sent the activists into the arena with their socialist agendas, taking control of the people through the laws of the land, which they make up as they go along.
Fair play only happens in the sandbox…
“…When I see him I think Zoolander, but without the deep insights…”
Okay. I was thinking more like “Puss-in-Boots”…but once again, without the deep insights, of course.
