The CFL 2012 season schedule!.
The free agency period has been cause for celebration.
A few good-byes to long standing Riders. Thank you Wes and Gene.
And a couple of surprises, see ya Stuuuu and Andy all the best except when you play the Riders!
Two things. The OLine signings mean that whomever wins the starting running back position is going to have some excellent lanes opening up. They also mean that Darian is going to have a bit more time to make decisions.
I love the signings and GM Taman deserves accolades for his yoeman work. Last year showed our weaknesses and on paper GM Taman has addressed those issues. Now it’s up to our new coaching staff to bring the excellence we know wears Rider Green to the field.
How many months till training camp again?

Fans were calling for changes, and that’s certainly what they’re getting.
Taman’s been villified as an incompetent Bomber failure with no football savvy, no inside football contacts… the usual bashing from the fair-weather clowns. Now that he’s been given more or less free rein as GM without needing Miller’s confirmation on every suggestion, I expect good things to come. A younger, revamped coaching staff will bring new vitality to the team.
I like the moves so far, particularly at O line…a changing of the guard, you might say (groan). A bit sad to see Geno step down, but it’s time, and there’s some pretty good talent waiting to step in.
Can’t fault Andy for wanting to go ‘home’. After all, we’re welcoming Labatte for doing the same thing here. Besides, we have a couple of good Cdn receivers already, along with Dressler, and I’m sure come training camp, there’ll be a couple of lanky import burners there to fight for a spot as well.
Can hardly wait!
Looks like ‘Riders management are going to improve the team with these additions, especially Labatte and Picard. Good work.
CFL training camp should be well under way just about the time the Canucks flame out in the playoffs again.
Lions repeat.
You heard it here first.
Riders will suck again in 2012. You heard it here first.
And then the Lions will whoop their a*s again.
Did they ever catch the Rider “fan” responsible for “fertilizing” the front yard, and easing the transition out, of the Kicker who went from Rider goat to Lion hero and record setter?
I would thank him, if it wasn’t such a vile and stupid act.
Well done, Brendan Taman. The dark days of Ken Miller are clearly over and we are finally injecting some youth and hopefully speed into the Rider lineup.
Ken Miller was the most over-rated coach in Rider history. He took a well coached team from Kent Austin in ’08, a team that had been staffed by Eric Tillman and Roy Shivers, and proceeded to run it into the ground over the next three seasons. Yes, we went to the Grey Cup twice under Miller, but the team was plainly in decline by 2010, and Miller refused to replace older veterans who were clearly past their prime, and it all came tumbling predictably down in 2011. How he managed to wangle a powerful vice presidency, considering his limited history with the Riders will remain a mystery for a long time, but it gave him the power to overrule everyone in the operation of the club, and it showed poorly on the field and in the locker room. Why do you thing Taman did not attend Miller’s final retirement announcement presser last October?
Well here’s to a new era under Taman and Cory Chamblin and let the good Rider times roll again!
It’s going to be an interesting season. A lot of old QBs have moved to the east…Do they still have it? Are the young guns in the west going to show them up?
BC is going to be tough to beat in the west. Montreal is probably not going to be there again. Hamilton and Toronto will be interesting to watch. They’ve both added a lot of talent…can they pull it all together by the end of the season? Although, no one can possibly make the bad “O” calls Bellfeuille made at the most crucial times last year.
Best of luck Riders, but I’m not sure if what you’ve gained replaces what you’ve lost. 😉
GO STAMPS GO!!!
Hopefully drew Tate is ready to rock .
I am actually kind of happy to see Fantuz gone. It was made pretty clear that he no longer wanted to be here after the NFL experiment ended. Not the most durable player (but not made of glass either, like Buck or Lumsden). Also, he was not the same player when he came back. Hopefully we concentrate of finding/developing some speedy receivers with good hands. All the best, and lets find players who want to be here.
I’ve heard a lot of rumblings about Fantuz being a distraction and not being as good as we think he is. I find that hard to fathom, but I guess the Ti-Cats will find that out one way or the other.
Props to Taman for rebuilding the O-line. A great Canadian O-line is the foundation of most CFL teams. But if he has to start there, it means the rebuild goes on for a while.
Fantuz was the Franchise player for the Riders, gone are those close “wins” & first downs in the second half…
The happy feet (dancing eagle) Qback gets worse every game.. maybe they can nail his feet to the ground…( I should know his name but thought they would cut him as soon as they saw his crazy dancing)
Not much hope until they find another Fantuz to make the big plays on 2nd down…
Just my Opinion
There is no doubt that Fantuz is good at what he does but, and I’m showing my age here, he’s no Hugh Campbell or Rhett Dawson.
@lance
So are the Co-op stores having a fire sale on Fantuz Flakes, or are they going to plow them under?
You heard it here first, the Bombers will suck this year because we have a group of glass quarterbacks resigned by GM Mack Daddy. Mack Daddy said he wasn’t concerned with Greg Carr signing with the Eskimos because he’s able to find receivers like Clarence Denmark. Well that kind of makes sense because Denmark is good at scooping up all the low passes our QBs throw, so no need for tall receivers.
I look forward to hearing the Sask fans trying to out shout each other with “Buris Sucks” and “Fantuz Sucks” when THE HAMMER come to play in their house!!
Should be as much fun to hear them yelling “Tate Sucks” here in Calgary when the Jolly Green come to play here.
GO Stamps Go…
But I am thinking third place for the Big Red Machine this year.
Cheers and have fun!!
